Interesting about that flywheel David. The flywheel in your pic is different to the one thats fitted to the Jap STI7 near me. The one on the engine I have seen has raised sections around the outer edge onto which the pressure plate bolts. It is not flat, as in older cars.
Id draw a pic to explain, but you find my drawings so amusing :O best not to make them public.

The flywheel I seen, is not sprung, it is a solid cast flywheel.
The ones you are referring to are the dual mass flwyheels as fitted to Toyota Supra twin turbos. Quite strange actually. I also hear from a friend that works in a subaru dealer, that a few have been replaced under warranty on some new legacy's.
It is actually 2 seperate bits, which can rotate a certain amount, and they are joined in some way so that the motion is damped/sprung. There is a write up on the Supra website about them, and apparently a lot of trucks use em. The clutch plate is then a solid unsprung item.
Its in here somewhere, but also some other good stuff
Supra website
or just here for the dual mass flywheel

Funnily enough, I *do* have two of these engines, BUT the SN software was playing up yesterday, tried twice to submit, twice got an ASP error, gave up... seems that it it did post though... twice.

Here's a bigger piccy...

Cheers,

Pat.
