well i must be shallow then, how many peeps on here go to the pub see an ugly bird and think "bet she's got a nice personality"?
Also, if an attractive woman came onto you would you turn her down incase she didn't know how to cook or she wasn't intelligent?

robby - the point that John was trying to make is that looks are an initial attraction to any relationship but for it to last you need several other factors than looks alone.

I must say i have always found her pretty, BUT i have to agree with John Felstead as he really seems to be the one with his head screwed on... Looks are only the first attrcation of a person second comes personality. I think that it depends on the type of person you are if you will stay with a person simply because they satisfy you in the looks department but not the personality your defo shallow, and whe you think you'll be happy simply by looking at them, really your sexual part of you will be satisfied when mentally you will not. You wont believe this but after living with them for years it will takes its toll, so bullsh$t about being happy with someone coz of their looks and no personality coz it aint true

For a REAL relationship you need attraction and a decent amount of intelligent personality to have a companion. And in fact if you got to know a person you wasn't attracted to, and you speak to them for ages you will find yourself being attracted to them because of their personality

ahh but rallyboy, how many times have you bitten into a sweet to find it's a coffee cream or turdish delight...

Comment that made me laugh was how sad we have to talk about these people all the time. Thats the game they're in. If they were'nt talked about (good or bad) they would'nt even be the C list celebs they are. Oscar Wilde put it best.

Agree with Cino on this one.
Having had someone as a friend and then going out with them after a couple of years of friendship, the looks aren't an issue. She wasn't a looker by any measure (and I can be objective about it now), but I was attracted to the personality (she was a very good friend). Unfortunately however well you think you know someone as a friend, you don't really know them properly and as a girlfriend she was a real Jekyl & Hyde.
After finishing with her I lived with a Danish girl who had it all. She was the image of your Typical Blonde Haired Blue Eyed Scandanavian girl, 5'9" with Figure and Looks to die for, excellent personality, etc, etc.
The problem was (as most pretty girls face) that she was constantly bombarded with guys trying to chat her up, (I would nip to the loo in a pub, come back and guarantee someone was trying to get her phone number off her, or in her job at the time in a restaurant, customers would write her notes and poems on napkins), It was very flattering to have this attention and in the end she gave into temptation and started messing around. I can see why many of the blokes Ms Holden works with fall for her and poor old Les Dennis's card was marked on the day they tied the knot.
When I walked away from the relationship with the Danish girl, I was sad for a short while for the good times I had spent with her, but then I felt an enormous sense of elation to be free of what I now consider to be a very damaging relationship. Staying with her and living with the uncertainty would have totally messed up my head (and she knew it) The trust was gone.
IMHO fantastic good looks are only skin deep and only really useful in the one night stand scenario (They only have an effect on people who don't know you).
In a work environment for the pretty Girl (or Boy) it can cut both ways and create loads of resentment.

wow! story! thats not a tear in my eye![img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] well i actually havent seen Cino so i dont know if every bloke fancies her! but i guess yeah it might be different for 'good looking people' than it is for us.. erm... average people. a lot of good looking peeps know they are good looking and seem to just not give a flying **** about personality, fact is, a lot of them are weak and sometimes are users, they need a stronger person to hang on to to keep them going if ye catch my drift, sorry, im babbling

The story ends up on a lighter note as the Girl I started seeing a month after I split from the Danish girl I married. She's a top lass and I have been with her for 16 years.
I think that if you put them up on a pedestal, You just massage an already large ego of the good looking ones.
However you see them, they are just the same under the skin with all of the insecurities of all us mere mortals.
Play it cool and hang onto your dignity however good looking they are. In a few years time when the looks begin to fade and they are brought back down to our level, They will find it tough to deal with. Time is a great leveller.

You got the right attitude Drunk and i stick to my guns, looks is a bonus, it helps but its not the most important thing... Just thing about this:
When your grey and old and don't find many people your age attractive what you gonna do?? The people who are attracted to personalites will be fine as they'll have someone who will make them happy by their personality and companionship... The people who always go for looks however may not be as fortunate
Just saying we live in a very shallow age, and really need to snap out of it we are aware there are many beautiful men and women out there but we don't need to oogle them all the time as if we never seen anything like it before.
