In over three years of Scoob ownership I've only been stopped once (a routine check due to thefts in the area) and the cops were efficient and polite.

I'd love to be questioned about having a noisy exhaust though, I think I've got a pretty good defense eh BuRR?

ooh ooh ooh, I've done the roundabout thing too

I had a knackered looking mkII Escort at the time and was just tootling round town, not speeding! I'd turned right out of a T junction, looked back where I'd just been and the was a Police tranny van, just about airborn over a hump back bridge... seriously, must of been doin about 50 in a 30 zone so I instantly knew they were after me

Anyway, they followed me down the high street, right round a roundabout, up another street, right round another roundabout... did this about 4 or 5 times before the lights came on The guy jumped out and said "next time we follow you, don't just keep going round rounabouts, we struggle to get round in this van"!

I might add that at no time did he use his lights or any other indication that he might stop me! He then went right through my car and couldn't fault it at all, he was gutted

LOL at Burr

Some serious attitude problems here! Does driving a Scoob automatically make you a driving God and allow you to drive and behave any way you like?

ACAB? Some are; most aren't.

I've not been stopped for 15 years, the last three driving a Scoob over 60,000 miles

Richard.

Stopped in my first Scooby MY97 before it had 20 miles on the clock ? LOL

I have been told that in some forces regular cops don't talk to traffic cops ? Don't know how true this is but apparently the traffic cops are doing the regular cops for speeding and while they are on duty ?

Keep this up cos it stops em following me !

>>Read your post. You're saying that the police tar you all with the same brush....... just what you're doing mate.<<

Burr i think you need to read my post properly mate, and you will see that i did not imply that:-

>>I for one im sick of how a select few treat us young people.I know they have a hard job but they tend to group us all together and treat us the same.<<

Note the words, SELECT FEW!! (in reference to the Police) and you will see what i mean. Read the post properly before you fire off mate, its saves you looking silly.

Besides its true what i say about a select few. Ive witnessed it first hand on a few occassions. Power induced madmen SOME off them.

Consider myself one of the select few. Sorry - you'll find that we tend to get as incensed at being drawn through the crap as you guys do at being treated badly.

Most of the time the Police stop Subaru's to check they are not stolen and the driver ain't pissed, but most of all to check out the car!!

The last time I got stopped I was told I had a very nice car but I really should keep it clean (pretty hard to do when you live down muddy country lanes). He also commented that when they get stolen they're a right ******* for the Police to keep up with.

What we have here is a small minority of donut eating traffic coppers with an over inflated ego that think stopping cars is the way to rule the world that spoil it and give the wrong impression about what the Police really do to help the society we live in.

In short, **** off and leave the Fuzz alone just ride the rough with the smooth - kinda like being married me thinks!!!!

Okay i'll climb off me orange box now and sorry if I offended anyone - not intended

No problem at all Burr mate. Im cool. hehe!! Its just im cool when im pulled over and i am very polite and respectful, because after all the car could be stolen or i might have a light out etc etc but when they see that i am young and driving a nice car they tend to go all jealous and turn and drag me through it all, then i flip and then you get the never ending circle of insults along with the occassional fines etc.

Lets just be nice to everyone shall we. We cant go wrong then can we??

Subarus are the car of choice for all armed robbers, ram raiders, drug dealers and general villains nowadays.

So why are people so surprised the police have a low threshold for pulling them? Add in some silly full power accellerating 0-30 from the lights, lane swapping and general titish driving in front of the police and you're certain to be pulled. You've got to play the game. Drive sedately when you see the cops and you won't get pulled on the whole.

If you don't want to get pulled, get a Hyundai Accent and drive like a retired bank manager.

3,400 people are killed every year on the roads, so about 9 people a day are victims. You drive a car you have a responsibility not to add yourself or others to the list of dead.

Plod take it seriously. Over zealousness is too common, and only serves to alienate the public, not a good thing. I fear the focus is moving towards speed, rather than quality of driving.

You guys need to buy legacy's.

I have been stopped going obscenely quick....(If I had been a policeman seeing me, I would have thrown the book at me: 6 months off, the lot!) on a deserted dual carridgeway at 3:30am. They were parked on the bridge over the top...zoomed down, caught up with me (eventually) and I had pulled over before they even put the blues on.

I got out, smiling, and the first thing I said when I got in the car was "evening!"

"I take it you know why we have stopped you sir?"

"That would be my excessive speed?"

"Yes Sir. Excessive speed in a.....what did you say the vehicle was again?"

"Legacy"

"And what engine does that have?"

"Ahhm...same as the impreza, really"

"I see..."

And everytime I have ever been pulled over in that legacy they have asked me more about the car than me, given me a producer, a playful pat on the a$$ and bade me good evening.

I had a Vauxhall tigra before (company car!!) and I got points for:

TS20 (racing line on a corner I know very well and can see round in the dark, which it was)
SP30 44mph in 40mph limit at 2:00am in the middle of salisbury plain!
SP60 Driving too slowly in a 30mph limit (I was behind a cyclist with a police car behind me! Nervous, anybody?)
SP30 98mph on the A303. Yeah..my fault...fair cop was being an idiot. It WAS 5:30am, though, and I had been called out for work.

The last one got me 6months off!

It's all about image.........

Are you implying that speed is the main cause of accidents and hence the number of people that get killed

I'm sure I read a detailed survey a few years back by the AA stating that in their opinion having commissioned a very detailed survey that speed was a contributor to about 4% of accidents only

I'd put most accidents down to lack of concentration.. thats certainly the case on the motorway..... that said it would certainly help matters if some of the fines that were given were diverted into putting lights on all the motorway and A road stretches.... especially the M40 which is a deat trap...

I've never been stopped in either of my Scoobies which i've owned for over 3 years. Before that, never in my Rs2000 also. The only time i've been stopped was in my Golf GTI and that was about 8 years ago and that was new years eve.

Gareth.

Ps. Just wait, bet i'm stopped on the way home tonight

3,400 people are killed every year on the roads
Obviously it's sad and wrong that folk are dying on our roads but to be realistic, when you consider the number of cars on the road, number of jouneys made and miles covered, 3,400 is f*ck all really!

I'd like to see the numbers broken down, ie how many of those were pedestians walking into the road without looking? How many were drink related?

IMHO the whole road saftey malarkey focuses on the wrong people. Yes tailgating is bad but if the person in front moved over there wouldn't be an issue. Yes you should be ready to stop if someone walks out but that shouldn't be a liscense to just walk into a road.

Also, I think people should be made more aware the cars are serious things, the amount of people I've met and laugh about being crap drivers is scary, folk should know there's absolutely no gaurantee of getting to your destination.

[/completey off topic rant]

Bob

oh and "speed kills" is entirely wrong aswell!! You find me someone who has died from too much speed!! I think you'll find it's more the sudden stops that are a problem

I just got stopped again about 10 minutes ago. Fortunately for me there was only one officer in the car and he wasn't traffic police.

I was travelling *cough* maybe a little over the speed limit *cough* and he pulled me over. He gave me a HORT/1 (my second in 2 weeks). I was polite to him and he was polite to me.

His parting comment was "I know they (scoobs) are nice cars to drive but just be careful with your speed"

having read 4 pages of abuse to police in general i must query the reason for you venting your anger on these pages. nobody likes to get stopped but you can be stopped without any reason and we can demand to see your documents. if you find yourself on the end of numerous producers then why aren't you carrying your documents with you like you are supposed to so you could show them at the time. we give you 7 days to produce coz we are nice guys(we don't have to). as for not answering questions when stopped, well that be interpreted as fertive and may lead to further questioning and you and your beloved car being searched and therefore holding you up longer than was needed. answer the questions to avoid putting your self up to being arrested for not providing name/address etc(if there is an offence)and be on your way. this also avoids you being nicked and your car being left in some dodgy place where upon release you find your car stolen or stripped and of course that would be our fault beacuse you were arrested for being stupid. and as for being chased by police either on foot or by car YOU must instigate the chase by making off, so how is that our fault? does it not seem obvious that if you run from police it arouses alot of suspicion and needs to be invesigated? before you critisise us perhaps you should look at your own driving and in many circumstances perhaps avoid being stopped at all. as for police monitoring this site and other sites yes that is true. i own a wrx and enjoy driving and surf the good car sites but even i expect to be stopped if i drive like a ****. the difference is i'll know why i have been stopped and won't get out with the ACAB attitude which is being promoted on this particular link!
anyway on a lighter note...
whats the difference between a catfish and a traffic officer?

ones a scum sucking bottom dweller and the other ones a fish.

happy new year!

Cool

having read 4 pages of abuse to police in general
Snarly

I think in fairness it's pretty balanced, alot of people are saying they have been stopped and the police were polite etc.

My experience is that it's human nature, some good people and some bad people or people who are having a bad day etc..

I wouldn't do a policeman's job for even twice the money that they earn so hats off to them

However I have come across an officer who wanted to charge me, when at a standard roadside check I put my cigarette out on the ground and he wanted to charge me for littering and I had been nothing but my usual polite self

You can only judge people on the experiences you have had yourself IMHO.

Hopefully your suspicion is not in relation to my good manners in the above post, as believe you me I do have a bit of respect for a lot of the police and I learned at a very young age that being wide with the police get's you nowhere

Hence, on that occasion I was very polite and was met with a young officer with a partcularly bad attitude .

However, the older cop was almost apologetic and took an interest in the car (VW Beetle in the old student days)

Cheers

Well, I have respect for the Police who catch real criminals, and the world would be survival of the fittest without them, but if someone gets pulled over for no reason, then they would be annoyed, and they should have the right to let the Police know that.

It makes no difference if the Police monitor website's like this one, as everything that is written on here could be the truth, or it could be fiction, and there is no way to tell what is true and what isen't.

Steve, precisely the opposite. Inappropriate speed, like racing in residential areas, tailgating, lunatic overtaking or not watching what is going on causes crashes. Not just speed.

However, HMG has decided that speeding is to become socially unacceptable, so has placed speed cameras all over the place (which also raise a nice bit of revenue). Bottom line is that you can DLAC and you'll be ok as long as you stick to the speed limit.
This is bad policy, and only encourages people to use false plates and the like - and not bother with tax, insurance, maintenance, etc.

Interestingly, the number of people killed is rising again, after 30 years of falling....

Colin.
