Russell,

Really, no, mine is definately more boomy. I wonder if it is blowing? I've heard from someone on here that they suspect their's was not fitted correctly.

Andrew....

(nearly) new 2000 followed by STiUK 18 months later... Snap!
Why'dya let the 2000 go? Mine was excellent in every way, except for being a friday-afternoon build, which meant I had to chop it in prematurely. Not that the STi is too much hardship (except for an unexpected call for an uncomfortable sum of money)

Russell/Gareth. PPP has a wider-bore tailpipe and a different resonator box, and I believe it's delibrately meant to be "growlier" (rather than"boomier") Mine certainly is, but acceptably so, therefore I'm not too concerned.

As with many other who have had their Sti's PPP'ed I am really glad I did. Pick-up from low revs much iimproved and the car drives much smoother. Yes there is more growl from the exhaust but I can live with it.

IMHO the Sti without the PPP is not the car it should have been!

The 2000 going was a 'accident' as in I accidentally went in and test drove one while they confirmed a faulty lambda sensor on the 2000 and thought it was great, had just had a pay rise and ended up buying it

Phil,
Not trying to split hairs but IIRC, PPP replaces all Xhorst components from Turbo back, all except the rear resonator box section.

VFG,
Yep totally agree

Bow to your greater knowledge, Tony..... It's just that my Dealer said that the resonator box was different. You may (possibly) recall, I initiated a thread about whether I could keep the WRS backbox: and the consensus (one contributor being so especially well placed to know that I would take his word against anyone on SN), was that I could without performance penalty. There was/is a problem, however, with S-UK's understandable concern about the possibility of (consequently) redundant prodrive backboxes with tailpipe masquerading on non-PPP'd cars. Now, I ain't a techie at all, but if the resonator box is part of the backbox subassembly, I (quietly) concluded that the principal benefit of the backbox was aural, rather than performance......

I stand ready to be corrected again...

Phil

Phil,
Apologies, I wasn't having a pop at you, it's not my style and certainly no superior knowledge.
I could be wrong, my understanding was the resonator section was connected to B/Box just after drive shaft.

Sorry

Tony

Ps The STD OEM B/Box was quite restrictive compaired to the PPP one, nearly straight through I did, before PPP cut my old OEM open, took some bits pieces out and welded some baffles up, rewelded and put back on then bought a Magnex S/steel 3 weeks before PPP arrived.

Phil/All

I have not got the full Sti7 PPP on my STi 7 but have the rear tailbox and the centre decat fitted. (so am missing the downpipe and ECU swap)

While i'm sure its still a way off the PPP, it has made the car - sound better, pickup from lower revs (3.5K) and certainly faster... I wonder how much more difference the rest makes ( I havnt driven a PPP STi)

If anyone dosnet want to spend 2K on the kit, I'd certianly recomend it if they manage to get the bits I have.

The power of Scoobynet 'For Sale' section.....

Gits  Finally get it all sorted to get fitted and call tesco back about insurance, who had kindly informed me of a zero increase for this a few months back and part of the reason I went ahead and ordered, what do I get? That'll be another £130 sir. Eh!? *******, *******, *******. They can't even come up with a reason other than blaming the person I spoke to previously, blah, useless. Heading for renewal in a month or two anyhow, so won't be going with them again.

Tony: No offence taken in the least, and did try to post my reply couched in language which showed that I hadn't taken offence. I don't mind debate in the least: I won't stand for name-calling, tho' (and you didn't!!):

Andrew: Try Schofields ("Rum" on SN is the boss). I'm paying extra for PPP, but by NO MEANS that much.

On the subject of crap insurance companies.

I rang directline (my insurance co) when I bought my MY00 last month to check whether I needed a tracker, so that I could do a deal with the garage and get it fitted before I picked it up. I was told that I didn't need one.

I get home with the new car two days later and find a letter from Directline saying, if it didn't have a Tracker fitted they wouldn't cover any kind of theft claim. All the systems in the accepted list were 500 quid or more as well. B*stards If they'd told me in the first place I'd have kept 500 back from my deposit.

sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings boys, but Tesco and Direct Line are the same company.

This could explain some of the comments in this thread.

For the record, I would not tell the robbing ins gits that the PPP was fitted. Unless you are involved in an incident which makes them suspect something, and they demand that you vehicle is put on a rolling road, they will never know.

Forgot to mention, the insurance is very reasonable with a tracker fitted, about £500 with £250 excess. 30yr, full no claims, no points, parked on driveway.

Gah! Spoken to Tesco again, the £130 is for the remainder of my policy, so I'm looking at an increase of 4 times that for a year, which means no PPP for me I can't justify an extra 40 something quid a month to make it go that bit faster, can't see how tesco's can either, but still.

Logged as a complaint and they will contact me, but not before I was due to get it done, doubtful they'll suddenly change it anyway.

So after all this, will have to ring dealer tommorrow and cancel it and sort insurance out come renewal and see if I can get it then Will speak to Scofields, see what they can do come renewal for a 24y/o with an '02 STi7 with or without PPP, not worth bothering changing now, only one payment left of this policy.

Why can't insurance companies employ people who know what they're talking about?
