The car did catch up,yes he was faster, yes the Focus moved out the way
You have just said it yourself, but moving out of the way and keeping on the gas is not only stupid but also not the way to drive on a trackday.

Right im bowing out of this now as i think it could start getting silly. And besides at the end of the day i wasnt driving.

i had an excellant day too and most enjoyable moments were staying with mellow for a couple of laps (only guy to overtake me allthough quite pleased considering what car it was) before a couple of slower cars got betwean
next moment was outdragging the 360 in front of the pit straight someone took a pic as i did it please let me see it
and also overtaking the rs6 that had different exhaust brakes and god knows what else and he didn`t have a thing on mine in a straight line
best driver of the day has to go to that guy in the vauxhall coupe (the big one) i was following him and every bend he was sideways brilliant driving

aps,
On the lap in question we followed yourself and a livered up Porsche going up towards Coppice....what we couldn't believe is what we witnessed next...... YOU overtaking the Porsche ON THE RIGHT just as you were going into Coppice !!!
So...I think you need to examine your own familiarity with not just your car but driving skills also....
Back to you.....tosser !

Mr evo driver had 2 chances to get past me and could not manage this even though he was driving a 340 bhp,4-wheel drive car.
When i moved over for you,we had just gone underneath the dunlop bridge!!!
I was mistaken that i thought you would **** past(100 bhp+ more than me),and i was not racing or trying to out brake anyone else.
My personal view is,you were trying to push all the way up to the chicane to get past me and out breaked yourself in a car that you were not familiar with!!!
I have been driving for 19 years, all over the world, and the one thing i have learnt,is drive to your own abilities and not the cars.
As i was only running STANDARD focus brakes,i had already started braking before you were along side me.
I went to donnington to enjoy a day out with some mates and not to listen to a bunch of moaning tossers, who get all wound up over one little incident.
im sorry mate but i was just going to leave this disscusion there as i wasn't even driving. But having just read the above all i can say is the video camera does not lie !!! if i need to post it i will.

He He He! Aps you bad man! LOL To be honest, given the driving that was taking place, if that was the worst moment that Chris and Gaz had, then they should consider themselves lucky.
I too would have expected that the Evo would have been considerably quicker than the Focus, both on the brakes and under acceleration. I've driven an RS Sprint round the Ring and they're awesome. And please no crap about not having ABS and AYC etc. The car is better without these things IMHO, and should be quicker as a result.
I know both parties involved in this little incident, and have to say that both of you are great drivers. End of story. So please let's move on from this and look forward to the next one.
Let's hope that it's not raining quite so hard, and that there is a space left on track when I finally decide to ask!

I was there in my std MX-5, and I've been poking around the forums looking for others opinions on the day, especially tubo nutter people.
From where I was it was really scary, 115 bhp, rear drive, really crap tyres, never done donny before.
But I did take a lot of video, and here it is...
http://www.aoow37.dsl.pipex.com/donnybusy.wmv : Taken from the pit wall, this gives you an idea of how busy it was.
http://www.aoow37.dsl.pipex.com/donnybad2.wmv : Taken from in-car. Shows;
My speed compared to others. Not that the others were racing... oh no... just following agressively.
Overtaking on corners, first the cossie past me, then the 996 past the scooby.
Jesus, where did you come from? followed by; if you let one past, you're not getting back into the traffic flow. This was like trying to join the fast lane on the M1.
Overtaking under red flag: I move over to let someone past, and the session goes red. 3 people pass me afterwards.
http://www.aoow37.dsl.pipex.com/donnytape1.wmv :
It shows:
A mitsubishi that was very quick.
Lots of cars at redgate
A single seater not much faster than me! (note, it's a little wet)
Not being allowed to rejoin traffic entering Goddards, particular swearage goes to the boxster driver.
What does FQ mean again?
A cossie blinds me through craners...
..then someone else.
Enjoy.
Richard

I wasnt there unfortunately so cant comment on any "incident".
However, i can make it very plain as to the correct way to drive on a track day
It's not Rocket Science guys.
If a car catches you, when it is safe you indicate to the right and pull over and if neccessary back off the throttle to allow this car to pass you, then pull back onto the racing line and carry on with an enjoyable days driving.
You need substantially more power to weight ratio to make a safe pass by just nailing it. If you pull over and keep it nailed, dont be surprised to end up in a mess at the next braking point because the speed diference isnt big enough to make a clean pass in the distance between most corners without some cooperation.
You dont have to be a Genius to work this out.
Another thing, even if it means sitting behind some muppet for a full lap, waiting for them to pull to the right, you wait, you do not pass them on the right. If this person continues to block you, most likely they didnt understand the briefing. Go into the pits and get them black flaged, that way an instructor has the oportunity to educate them so for the rest of the day they are not a problem to anyone. Again it's not rocket science.
Lets keep it safe out there, it's getting very tedious reading these after trackday threads where half the comments are people bitching about driving standards. Apply some grey matter and sort it on the day.

The worst thing I witnessed was when the Golf spun off at Redgate into the gravel, the amber lights came on - yet it was as if no-one saw them as everyone continued to floor it down the pit straight and found themselves having to brake extremely hard! Lucky no cars were rear-ended!
People on the pitwall were frantically trying to wave people to slow down.
