Why should the Police turn up to a burglary, after all, catching motorists speeding is far more important. Travelling at 35mph in a 30mph zone is a terrible crime, and of course the Police don't raise revenue by catching burglars!!!
Unless of course the house being done over is that of one of Her Majesty's Constabulary employees, and then speeding I am sure would be less important.
Is it not time that the public were given a decent service, and scumbags are locked away for a fecking long time when caught?

Gooner: the police have no say in sentencing and are so overstreched due to government finances that it's surprising you ever see them.

Speed cameras are a police idea from the 70s, I've met the ex copper that helped them in, and he's red-faced about how they've been used to make money - not down to the police, though.

I agree completely, sorry to all cops if you are offended. Sadly Tony Blair and his cabinet is where the blame really lies, they are spending so much money on things other than us (The British)that if they don't impose this stealth tax, along with cutting back on the really important things, such as Police, Fire Service, Hospitals, Nurses, Teachers, Roads, etc, etc, etc, they would be BROKE.
Can't wait for the congestion charging in London, I am a company owner, with vehicles travelling into the City regularly.
Still, at least every Kosovan, Afghan, Libyan, etc, etc, etc I see gives me a warm feelig, I AM KEEPING THESE PEOPLE!

Respect to buRR, danbo and Nathan. For being policemen and talking about it.

Personally I am interested in hearing real stories. Not to old to change my mind.

In a hypothetical situation...

If i was to ring up and say to the police that my house had been burgled and i had the burglar pinned down by the throat and would keep him restrained in this way, no matter what it took, until the police got there, would I be in trouble with the law ? Would they get there quicker.

Makes you wanna get out the old Desert Eagle dont it

Burr,

Thanks for answering my questions. As I said, i'm not having a go at the police officers who are out dealing with the calls, more the system you guys have to work under.

IMO - i don't worry about being hit by motorist travelling 10mph over the limit. I do worry about being burgled, carjacked, and assaulted. The police need to be seen to do something to calm our fears. The latest ruling not to jail burglars and the governments targetting of speeding motorists has done the opposite. Granted, that is not the fault of the police, but it does makes their job harder as they are in the unfortunate position of being on the front line of our pi55 poor 'justice system'.

Already I've broken my promise! lol

No - I didn't mean Scoobynet in general - just those where I try and fight my corner.

I'll just talk about...... I don't know... other stuff, I suppose.

DAVE WALLIS - where's that Dawes info?

Ok... noted ... but you didn't say when you left.

I took it that you had been at their house at some point in the evening and were leaving.

so don't shout at people for not reading the thread properly when you don't make it clear enough in the first place!

* edited to add that I've now read it again (slowly) and seen you did make reference to New Years Day later in the post *

I echo scoobs for ever's post.

My cousins husband is a Police officer and had the longest busiest night of his career.** on new years eve**
a little story from him made me chuckle. He was attending a call to calm some lads in a pub down, he got there opened the pub door to be greeted with about 40 people piling into each other, fists flying, reversing quicker than he walked in, he shut the door behind him and called for assistance
good on ya Mark

Oh and another thing that "pevious owner of my car" that I raced (in my then new scoob) (him in his new TVR) you may remember the post??
well lets just say we were into triple figures, had a good chat at the end of the erm..private road .....
come service time on the scoob now 6 months into ownership and I find out who the previous owner is...or should I say WHAT

yep a police man.. you Mr Greene are a Top copper.

Andy

edit to add: **
