Christ, I wish that mine was free! Including the fish and pumps etc, it has cost me about £1500 on that tank setup. The food alone costs me £40 a month!

£40!!! What on earth are you feeding them? Gold plated flake food?

What fish have you got in there?

David - if you manage to get one of your Zebra Plec, I'll see if I can get mine on camera.

Karlos Fandanggo - That plant site you linked to looks excellent! I haven't got room in my tropical tank for any more plants at the moment, but as the Mollies munch through them, I'll be certain to buy more from there. £7:95 for 50 plants is great - I can kit out my coldwater tank too.

Mostly frozen food. 15 packs a month on avg + some flake food

Off the top of my head I have:

1 Mating pair of Angels
1 smaller pair of Angels
4 Clown Loaches
2 Mating pairs of Kribensis
1 Non paired female Kribensis
3 Black Mollys
4 Brazilian Puffers
4 Pearl Gouramis(1 Male)
4 Opaline Gouramis
2 Gold Gouramis
1 Indian Gourami
1 Honey Gourami
1 Giant Danio
4 Cardinal Tetras
2 Guppies
6 Boeseman's Rainbowfish
1 Tusk Catfish (I think that's it, Black with many bright creamy yellow spots)
3 Mole Shrimps
3 Armoured Shrimps
God knows how many 'Golden Apple variety' snails.

They all get along happily most of the time

As the bigger species grow, mainly the rainbow fish, Clowns, Puffers and Angels, the number of fish in there will be scaled down.

Think that just about covers it.

My Dinosaur

Nick, what filter/filters are you using on a tank that size? I need to upgrade mine very soon.

I have 3 Fluval 403 Filters running in there (Each about 1200 litres per hour max flow) and 4 Rena Air 400 air pumps. No such thing as too much

There are better filters out there nowadays, but I got these at a good price and they are very reliable

Cheers,

Nick

Trouble with Xebra Plec is that he hides all day under log - only comes out at night to feed on cucumber slices!!

I plan to move house shortly and will be looking for new set up. I wondered if anyone had moved to marine from tropical and is it the real hassle that everyone tells me it is?

And finally I have an outside pond with a number of Koi and other species that I have grown fond of over the years. New pad has no pond so I will build one in Spring. Is there anyone in my patch (SE) with a pond who could keep say a dozen or so fish for me for a few months? Naturally I would pay for food and tlc. They are very healthy AFAIK and I would deliver. A long shot I know but would solve a problem for us. You would also be welcome to keep some smaller Koi that we have bred. David.

Nice setup Footong, but will you all stop posting these pics.

We used to have a 5x2x2 tank in the lounge. Went off on hols and while away the base cracked Most of the fish had grown with us, e.g plec from 6" to 20", Clowns 1" to 6" it was really like losing a family pet.

The poor bloke looking after them was devastated, especially as his wife kept telling him it was his fault cos he must have done something to cause it!

Best guess was that the stat jammed.

Synodontis Angelicus?

Will you stop it with fish! I;m getting the urge to set up a tank again. (last time that happened six months latter there was a dozen tanks full of catfish...)

Going from freshwater to marine is easy enough providing:

You buy all the appropriate tests to montior water condition.

You give the filters chance to mature before adding any fish.

You realise that the stocking level is much lower than freshwater.

Also fish compatiblity is very important. that pretty little Picasso Trigger, with all his pretty colours is going to be an absolute barsteward in time, etc, etc,

My advice, don't bother, buy a nice little South American cat, and watch him grow! Red-tails and perus etc are also very friendly, so make good centre pieces, where as tiger shovelnoses and similar are very skitish. I'm babbling now aren't i? Good job all me gear is at the old mans, or i'd be spending tonight washing gravel!

Cool

Thanks MP. I didn't know about lower stocking level for marine. I'll probably stay with tropical and thinking of getting one of those curved fronted tanks about 300 litres I think and shoving all my tropicals in together. We do have a couple of catfish although small at present. They are good at cleaning up the gravel although we had to change to a smoother gravel to preserve barbels!

No offers on the Koi babysitting yet??? David

Nice size tank! Am just waiting for my boss to clear out his garage and then I'm going to appropriate his 7footer! Comes complete with stand and paraphernalia...all for the princely sum of free!

Have cleaned out the tank now and discovered 3 remaining babies so I did the bottle idea.
