I pay 580 odd from LV, 33yrs, Essex/Suffolk border, '99 decat + 17" wheels, full ncb, 400 xs, driveway.

Perhaps age on these cars makes a difference. If it's rumoured that you can pick up a '99 for 6-8k these days, then there may be no point asking for a tracker as the damage to the car from a joyride would be more; and I don't see too many 4+ year old cars being stolen to order. Carjacking / stealing for bank jobs is another matter though.

Has anyone actually sat down and wondered why insurance has gone up??

I reckon it's the attack on the WTC on Sep 11

I'm not an insurance expert but this is the way I understand how it works......there are only a handful on Insurance Underwriters and if anything like Sep 11 happens (with costs running into billions and billions) then the cost will be spread out between them.

This inevitably comes down to us as usual to foot the bill.

I stand to be corrected

Cheers

27 Full NCB, rural postcode

I pay £580 with £250 excess, full legal cover etc etc at Adrian Flux. This is for a Legacy estate with declared decat exhaust, and when i was getting quotes a UK impreza was £150 more.

My02 WRX.
Morettes and Group N rear silencer (TSL) + Dawes device. All declared as mods. (Dawes costs £20 increase as under 10% power increase)
Garaged, Cat 1 alarm + immobiliser + tracker (not req'd for insurance and doesn't alter the cost with who I'm with).

Preston area...

Approx £620 with Liverpool Victoria, standard excess (approx £250?)
Had to put approx as my policy is at home!! Prices are within £10 though!!....and I'm not lying as I doubt is anyone else posting in ScoobyNet Insurance section...what would they gain from it?

Edited to say I needed 9yrs No claims (with proof, which I have). As far as I know no other Ins company goes up this high??.

I had other quotes ranging from £720 - £1500...so it pays to shop around. I also noticed that some quotes for others were much lower than for me..I'm 36 no claims and no penalty points...and only have the wife as other named driver.

Sometimes you can get surprising deals.

All the quotes for my Evo II were around about the £1200 mark (fully comp, 1 yrs NCB, no points, no accidents, 38, Somerset postcode, tracker, alarm, parked on driveway), then I went to Tett Hamilton and got it for £895. They take into account things like your experience of driving fast cars (if you've been driving performance cars for a few years you'll get a reduction) and they specialize in certain areas (imports particularly).

Quite often you've just got to hunt out the 'back page' broker that can get you some sort of special deal.

I phoned all of the recommended brokers, most couldn't help as I was insuring an import with no garage, living in croydon. Most quotes (for 26 yr old with 7 yrs no claims, no points, 1 non fault accident and my 24yr old fiance) came in at the £1700 mark with protected NCB.

Norwich Union quoted £85 a month for me to drive any car fully comp and insure any driver on my car. So £1020 a year paid in installments.

Guys

As an earlier post suggests - Count yourselves very lucky that you don't have to pay Northern Ireland insurance prices.

They're a bit of a joke to say the least.

Here goes
UK STI7 - completly standard
All standard security on car.

Me - 33 year old, no accidents, no claims, full NCB etc
Myself & Partner on insurance - £1584 F*$KING POUNDS! with a £400 excess.

Hows about that, maybe you guys will feel a little better off now.

Problem over here is that whenever a person makes a claim its not a fixed amount (Like you men have I think), but whatever your solicitor can manage to get for you.

Even 5mph shunts cost 5-6K in whiplash claims - makes me angry even typing this.

And of course the law won't get changed, because the solicitors etc are involved in this part - and they won't pass any changes because the ba$tards are making too much F&*KING MONEY!

argggggggggggggggg

Shaun

This is good for a source of reference, as my insurance was quite high this year. Could everyone say who they are with so that we all have an idea who to give a call come renewal please.

Saxo Boy - Your quote seemed very reasonable especially as you have the missis on it for just over a grand! Who are you with? I assume Saxo Girl is about your age? I only ask as my insurance company wanted an extra £1000 for my other half to be a named driver!!!!!

Cheers,

Dan

Most of you are being conned!
93 WRX Import + 23 year old named drived (me) insured under policy holder 52 yrs old (my dad) + 5 years NCD + small excess + fully comp + ATS Euromaster = £700

Ok so I'm insured thru my dad, but I pay a pittance for insurance!
I'm sure that I have read something about this and that insurance companies are clamping down on people that obtain insurance through others espaecially if they find that the car is being more regularly driven by the named person. I would be very careful on this one

That's dreadful. My insurance actually goes down if I put Mrs de Payen on the policy.

Question

insurance?!??!yes its dear and its only going to get worse;factors such as sept 11th,fraudulant claims, and factors such as the fact that some of the international companies are to stand alone next year...fact...so the fact that already each motor policy in the uk loses money for the companies really is going to hurt next year as companies which spread the load/loss over profit making policies in europe will become seperate as off next year...expect a BIG rise next year people and start saving or sell your car now before residuals are really hurt....the insurance companies are trying everything to reclaim costs, for example internet salvage auctions to sell salvage quicker and reduce processing costs and are linking costs of whiplash claims /mediacl expenses etc to the cost of a claim when selling salvage on percentage claims...there is no answer really.the problem is deep rooted and is not helped by people stretching the truth when applying for insurance...ALL YOU THAT HAVE ,BE WARNED THEY ARE GETTING VERY KEEN!!!THERE ARE MORE LOSS ADJUSTERS ETC NOW CHECKING ON CLAIMS,ANYTHING TO AVOID A PAYOUT OR FULL PAYOUT??!?!?
i too fall victim to the high cost ;;30 yrs old full protected no claims, clean licence,97 car,uk turbo, cat 1 security, garaged, etc etc and pay close to £1100 which makes me sick because unless i completly wrecked the car or somebody stole it i would not claim anyway?!?!?easier to repair it yourself and source parts secondhand in most cases and protect your "protecetd " no claims and save your car from the dreaded regiter???there appears no way to win....just save up or sell up..and thank all the dodgy claims from years gone by...imoho!!

Im 25. 5 years PNCB. No claims in last 5 years. Garaged (well I have a garage ). Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser. No tracker or any other security devices. Located just out of Cambridge.

MY00 Turbo with Colour coded sills and bumper strips, Prodrive 17" PD7's In Gold with New Toyo Tyres (valued at £1000), Blitz Nurspec R Backbox only. Kenwood MP3 player.

All mods declared (allowed up to value of £2000). Apart from pink grille badge and momo gearknob which I thought was pointless.

Premium of £900 with £175 excess for damages (was 350 until I hit 25). Car is currently in the garage getting a new bootlid after some ****** dented it in a car park and did a runner - luckily my excess is low. Ins renewal is mid October so will see then if my claim (which was no fault of my own) makes any difference).

This is with AXA Insurance. Works out about £80 a month.

Simon.

I tried all of the places mentioned that supposedly give great deals, pah! Me and the other half are in the Cotswolds, Sport and 02 WRX off the road, £1,800 is the cheapest I've found - some of the places mentioned here were far more. That's with 6 years protected NCB, no points and being 40! To be fair, the Sport is an additional car so there is no NCB just introductory dicount.

Rip off merchants!

:-(

26yr old, ZERO NCB, P1, PRodrive/Alcon brakes, full decat exhaust, garaged, tracker, deadbolt lock, good postcode. Lost NCB due to 7 grand 'off roader' last year

Elephant 1500 quid, Greenline 1200 quid :O

1200 quid with zero NCB was amazing

So far (and I posted the original thread) the best pound notes deal and that is if you truely declare everything are

Greenlight £797 (But only if I change to Sti8 in a month or so)
That includes PPP,forge dump valve, itg in locked drive way
£500 excess and FC inc No claims protect,50,000 legal and home start, european cover. All the above for £900 bang on for Sti8 (inc exhaust - backbox, resonator and centre decat)

or Subaru Insured - Won't cover the existing car due to me changing to Sti8, but Sti8 is £885 and is the same as above. £100 to add PPP

CIS which is more comprehensive cover, less excess, more legal cover, free window, europe cover, breakdown etc is £1108, no extra for PPP and direct with a company not a broker

And I live in a border area from urban to country so have a reasnoable post code

I still say is evrybody really declaring the full facts and I don't mean that they are lying, just genuenlly not realising or the non tech girlie on the end of the phone not interperating what you say ????

Had a 200 sx few years back, rims, springs, chip, air and exhaust didn't exactly look standard, had a small claim and they didn't say owt about the mods,i was once told they will take the extra out of your payout in a claim for the amount it would have cost you to insure with the mods.

I went through slowly with one girl all the mods and she wrote them all down and her reply at the end was "my brother would love a car like this" . As an average scoobynet car its well under modded .

The guy a psoke to when I took the policy out I spoke to 3 times in total to make sure he knew all the mods. The particular insurance just seem to classify in certain ways on the policy. eg. wheel mods, exterior mods, performance mods and interior mods.

I am a bit worried I think I should have declared the scooby doo car matts

Edited to say I am now 23

That's probably the main reason why my insurance is much cheaper than yours. I'm a balding 38 who still likes the Rolling Stones and once inserted bits of material into the bottom of his trouser leg to make the flares []even[/i] bigger!

on the excess, i have found that the same policy if they start with a £500 excess and you want £250 excess the premium goes up by £ 250.

so just stick the £ 250 in the bank and use it if you need to if not youre £250 up.

havent been checking the legal cover so i will check that on my next quote hunt.

Si.
Sorry Si missed this post, I guess you were asking me ?

I still have a downpipe cat, left it alone after hearing problem with later imports and full decatting problems, plus it flies through emissions tests and its plenty quick enough and now loud enough for me .

The insurance just classified upto 10% sports exhaust system. So I could full decat if I wanted to. Rest of the system is a TSL decat centre and a scoobysport back box. Nowhere near 10% increase as the OE type RA system only has one cat so I havent really done antythign except maybe make it breathe slightly better but its sounds much better than the OE system and does seem to rev better .

I suspect madness is the answer lol.

I got my points after getting scoob aye, but I was damn lucky not to get points with my previous two cars. With the scoob, I was just unlucky to get caught.
