How about, "Car passes driver test for SDB" for the header.

Simon - any video footage of this thing in operation?
My late father designed and manufactured the AYC for the later Land Rover Discovery alongside Delphi chassis systems.

- Yes, the differentials are proportionally controllable - 0-100%
like the WRC
- I claim the system is simpler than the Evo because it has one less
hydraulic piston and half the moving parts, give or take. There are
two more sensors than the Evo 7 and some cleverer logic but a whole
load less metal.

OK, we're in negociations with Prodrive at present to get one lucky ScoobyNetPlus member a drive in the car!!!
Obviously they are reluctant as .. well basically, you just can't BUY a go in this thing (this side of a deal to buy 500,000 of them anyway!), and it's the only one like it! But I'm pretty confident we'll make it happen.

Will this need 4500 mile servicing like EVO's? I don't want to sound like my grandad "just another thing to go wrong young man" and I hope that being simpler than EVO's it will be more reliable.

I remember the great David Wood talking about some form of ECU-controllable suspension system last year when he visited europe with the Subaru Rally Team. The system he saw allowed a certain aspect of 'tuning' to suite a particular type of stage for WRC....not sure of any more than that.
I know the centre diff of the Type R/Type RA/22b cars can be ecu controlled to lock/unlock if required. This stuff sounds really impressive...is there system serious hydraulic hardware involved here to operate with the std diffs on the car ??? Having said that you mention that Prodrive chose to use an Impreza to prove the concept - this stuff sounds fantastic.
Simon, did you find the system intrusive ??? did you have to 'drive round' what it was doing if you know what I mean. Was it comparable to the skyline way of doing things ???

A mate of mine is involved with active suspension sytems, he's also doing some work on "kneeling" vehicle's too! It's great to just watch him work, he's such a clever chap and fecking good at at his job by all accounts
Does anyone know where I can read up on diffs etc, I'd like to learn more about them, when I was at college I barely got mi head round LSD's and that was ten years ago

I know the peugeot 206 WRC has an electronic anti roll bar system Ian. Thats going to be a presure valve setup that links both sides, probably using similar technology to an active diff.

Not wanting to be the sour puss on this amazing sounding device, but I have a couple of problems.
1) is this thing going to be 100% safe or is there the possibility of it crashing as it's a computer, and causing the car to respond in a way that it thinks you want it to do resulting in the car actually crashing.
2) the richer members of the community all rush out and get one fitted and then because the car corrects your mistakes they start driving harder on the roads because they know they can get away with it, and possibly causing a danger to other motorists.
3) cars with it fitted get sold to younger more inexperienced drivers who already think they are invincible and they start driving like Richard Burns and sliding round roundabouts and corners etc causing a danger to other motorists.
These cars already have a bad name, do we really need a device that will give the whinging public more ammunition to hate us, steal our cars. Scoobs are nicked for ram raids, robberies etc because the police can't catch them, if you make the car even better at road holding and cornering the police will have even less chance of catching them.
In the right hands it sounds absolutely amazing but in the wrong hands sounds like a potential accident waiting to happen.
Just my opinion and I don't want to put a damper on inovation.

You have a good point. However the same can be said of any invention. Fire can take life or preserve it, A car can bring joy to an entire family or wipe one out.
In general we(as people) need to take responsibility for our actions and choices, and until we do there will always be people who can and will misuse things.
