Many moons ago while following the RAC rally in a Flat nose RS2000 (i said many moons ago
) we stoped at a stage and noticed some lads in front of us picking birds out of the radiator grill, we looked at my car and there were 4 or 5 birds stuck in the front end
.
It had been dark on the way to the stage and we hadnt noticed hitting anything...wasnt good![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

It's happened to me in my MY2000. I was driving towards Brighton on the M23 and a bird flew from a hedge. I tried to slow and it hit the scoop. Anyway, all that was left was a few feathers sticking to the top of the intercooler scoop, quietly fluttering away.
Never did find the rest of that bird!!

I've had worse than that... going along the A14 at about 70mph and a blackbird flew out across the road, straight under my right windscreen wiper
!!! Poor thing was stuck there! I had to grit my teeth, and operate the wipers a few times, and eventually it disappeared off past my window

Goober don't feel too guilty, If it was a sparrow, They are classed as vermin & not a protected species & millions of them exist all over the world.
Although currently the second most common garden bird in Britain, the house sparrow has shown a 57% decline in numbers since 1979 and could very well soon be given the "birds of high conservation concern status" by the Royal Society for the protection of birds

Scoobydick - deans right though !
He said "millions all over the world"
You said " Second most common bird in britian"
He said "not protected"
You said "could well be soon on the list" (so at present, not protected)
Don't see your problem ?

I know that Sparrows are a protected species
![Confused](images/smilies/confused.gif)
Birds and cars become a real hazzard when the bird is an Emu! Little birds just scratch the car, emu´s kill due to their height and body mass...
But most of you have never seen anything bigger than a sparrow though...?

With a name like SCOOBYDICK what more can you say !!!
Conservation status
House sparrows are not considered to be globally threatened. Despite recent declines in their populations, there are probably still more than 3,000,000 pairs breeding.

I ran over a starling the other day, looked back and it was still alive sat in the road,it looked fine just a bit stunned so i thought i would take it home leave it in the garage for a couple of hours then let it go where i found it,so i reversed back to pisk it up when some idiot coming the other way ran over it and completly squashed it!! so much for compassion then!!! bar steward he was!!

if anybody saw the rally recently (can't remember whether it was acropolis or cyprus) petter solberg ended up with a bird inside the car mid-stage, managed to fly in the roof scoop...
been told a story about my mate who was driving down a country road with a bike rack and 3 bikes attached to the roof - saw a bird flying very fast towards the windscreen but managed to avoid it and flew above the car to a huge sigh of relief from the driver. once they get out an take the bikes off the rack they realise the bird didn't quite get away unharmed - ended up totally wrapped round the front-hub of 1 of the bikes :-S
