You are quite right Bob, I was not doing 150 on the M5 although I was well used to speeds well in excess of that on the race track. I enjoyed that bit too. But I am not a hypochrite either thanks.

162 in a straight line in a scoob. Boring, very very boring.
If thats how you get your kicks, then you must have a very low andrenalin threshold.
I dont believe a word of it, but if you did get a ban for 4 years for this then you have no grounds to complain. You took a risk and paid the price, take it like a man.

firstly that would be a new record for prosecution on a uk road. I believe it stands at 155 mph. Secondly that sort of driving is a criminal offence so would probably carry a jail sentence.
How did he get caught at that speed? top gear proved that the cameras dont take pictures of cars going that fast, infact they proved that much over 150 they get one picture and no speed and 170 they dont even get a picture, so he wud have been too quick for a camera. Cant have been a traffic car as with the weight they carry they can only do about 150 mph, thats the t5s, scoobies etc. And helicopters only hit about 150 top end, so he would have been pulling on one of them. Im skeptical it happened 2b honest and if it did happen then hes lying about the speed or they cant have had any real evidence in which case he should have denied it.
Ive successfully argued 145 on the motorway and it was thrown out

I was told of a mates mate who was caught doing 176mph on a b road in his ferarri the man had plenty of money for his lawyer and ended up with a huge fine and 6 month ban .He was commended for slowing up as the police admitted they could'nt catch him and didn't get his reg no.
The fact was he didn't even know they were there and was just slowing up because he was coming into a residential area.
It did make the sun newspaper and went under a heading of fastest recorded speed on a b road.

Brilliant Thread, just been watching you all (well most) get reeled in and dumped in the 'Fish tank'
At 162mph that P1 was travelling faster than the depreciation on a P1!!!!! and hence its untrue - coz NOTHING loses money faster than a P1!!
Carry on!
Pete

162 in a P1,
A friend in the know tells me that you should question the police officers who clocked you. If they have clocked you from a laser or similar pointing devices, these should be calibrated upon starting their shifts and again at the end of the shift. There should be a logbook for every speed detecting device. If they have not done one or the other (ie at the beginning and at the end) then you may get off on a technicality.
good luck

Why is it the peeple hoo have spensive cars and money for solisi - sulicit - leegal peeps can't never spel?
If you did this you got what you paid for. Everytime some halfwit gets clocked at warp speed some other halfwit in Whitehall ticks the box that says 'Purchase 50 more speed cameras'.
Thanks. You just made it much more boring for the rest of us.

Sounds like Bollox to me
Caught by a speed gun? Didn't stop you at the scene? No publicity?
If they didn't stop you at the scene, how could they prove it was you and not some other P1? Must have fecking good eyesight to clock your reg at that speed. And who's to say it wasn't another car with a false plate?
Way too many variables to take into account. Any good solicitor would have questioned all this.
Either prove your "claim" of stop fishing

Sounds V fishy to me however here's one that is true.
We got stopped by the Police on the M4 (when they eventually caught up with us) at speeds in excess of 140 mph. We were trying to see who could get the most out of a BMW M5 or Audi Quattro Coupe. (for those of you interested it was the BMW that won - Quattro showing a speed of 141 MPH). Policeman admired the cars (as there weren't many M5's or Quattro turbo's around at the time) and told us to be more careful !
As I said this did happen - can anyone guess what year it was ?
ps How things have changed - it's a shame Subarus / Evos weren't around at the time !!
pps If you want to drive great cars get a job with a large car rental firm as a junior buyer - best job in the world for a 18 year old

1. I dont believe this at all, how can you make an example and keep it secret?
2. I do believe that they could have seen his plate and clocked him, but they wouldnt gicve chase as he was exceeding their max speed never mind getting up to it and dangerously giving chase.
They may have called a helicopter suispecting it was stolen, but that couldnt keep up either and if there wasnt one available it would have been a waste of resources. Once out of sight there is no point calling for backup etc etc.
some more points here.
since when is the P1 limited to 155? the gearing is 21.8mph/1000rpm and it redlines at 8000 rpm which gives over 170mph actual speed, not indicated, and that doesnt ac**** for tyre expansion.
Tim W in his UK car managed 166.6 mph, but to my knolwedge he did it sensibly on a track and was measured by calibrated equipment at elvington, so no yours is not the fastest.
With a four year ban I cant believe you would care about the speed record.
I think you should have gone to prison, and I wont be branded holier than thou, that kind of speed on a public road is not entertaining and not fun, just wreckless selfish and stupid. With no other cars around, it isnt so bad in my opinion, but still not worth bragging over.
What I do want to know is how comes it took you a 4 year ban to come on to scoobynet yet ownership alone didnt cause you to search the net to find us? is it because you have more time on your hands?
I still dont believe it, but if true I would kick up a public stink and start a campaign against the severity of the sentence. Get some examples of these granny muggers or ram raiding car thieves and attack the law in this country.
I think a 12 to 18 month ban is still at the very least appropriate.
