yes 171 need to be doing 170 for it not go off or less than the limit id love to try it on a track of course. and who thinks it would be a wee bit stupid putting a 4wd car on axel stands and taking it up to 160. imagine if it fell off? no clutch gearbox or anything left after that.

wot an excellent thread - it's got tension (missing pictures), drama (high speed cars), mystery (is 162 really CJB, or is CJB another disease that large animals get?), intrigue (did he really go at 162?) ........
I'm definitely going to read the book and see the film of this thread when it comes out .....

162 etc.
I think you replied to my last post but you need to write it in English to give us all a chance to know what you mean.
Yes I agree that putting it up on axle stands to get 162 mph on the speedo is really stupid. It is almost as stupid as doing 162 mph on the public roads, and I think that you are the man to do it.

Mr P1, ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
1.) Stupid is "going 162 on a public road".
2.) COMPLETELY Stupid is "getting caught" doing 162.
P.s pot calling kettle, so shouldn't really comment here

The short answer is a TT225 Engine with a re-map, 100-cell sports cats, FMIC etc. Last time it was on the road it was pushing 280bhp.
Almost a year later, the engine's been re-built with a Garret GT25 hybrid roller-bearing beastie developed with AmD and Turbo Dynamics. It'll be sold on to Audi TT owners as a 330bhp conversion. We're tweaking it to just over 360 to give two magic figures: 300bhp/ton and 200bhp/litre. Should be on the road in a few weeks.
Last time it was on the road, I managed to put this together:

I must congratulate you for getting that sort of power-really impressive.
Was wondering how you managed to take the photo at that angle and keep it all on the island!

Hey Paul,
I've had it there myself...once!
I know a 7 that will read just about 160 on the clock and according to GPS is doing 152 MPH. Must be the speed limiter kicking in...and I thought it was the mud flaps slowing it down.
When you going to order the 8 with PPP?

As for that infamous picture...
1) Previously mentioned orange glow, dodgy STi logo and raindrop effect are probably due to jpeg compression so should be discounted!
2) Needle on the rev counter is a different shade of orange to the other needles - suspicious!
3) Theres no indication from the clock! Is the ignition even on?
4) No sign or a hand on the steering wheel - the wheel looks straight so assuming a normal had position (1:50-2:45) I would expect to see at least a finger - Personally speeking, above 100mph in a scooby, both of my hands are locked firmly on the steering wheel right about the point that's in view! You'd have to be a very brave man to use one hand at 160+!!!
Its been a while since we saw that picture, so for reference, here it is again

Not sticking up for anyone here (merely playing devils advocate), but -
The diferent angle of the needle for the speedo could be a the cause for the colour difference due light catching it in a different way.
Only a really small part of the steering wheel is visible allowing his hands to be on about the other 80ish %.
