As it was still prominent I thought I see how this so called debate was progressing.

Diablo, don't think you need to lock this - move it to muppet or preferably a new Playground Forum

Surprisingly - ( not ) - StiSs' only response was to admit he was unable to name a Muslim Charity. If I were cynical I might question if he could name more than two Islamic towns without the assistance of a search engine.

Anyway, if the US have their way will be aware of one: The Red Cresent Society

I thought that my question was a valid one, not a dig at islam. There are many rich islamic countries (Brunei,Saudi,Iran,Malasia, etc) Although they have poverty, we have people living on the streets,as do all other western coutries.
Do any islamic charities help non islamic causes?.

I don't think so, but then do any Christian charities help non-Christian causes?

Most of the 'normal' charities that we know are non-religious (Cancer Research, NSPCC -- I think Oxfam is Christian?)

I think you will find most like the Red Cross and Oxfam do alot of their work in Muslim countries. I haven't seen a Red Crescent shop in the High street though.
A good proportion of Africa is Muslim IIRC

Checked Oxfam's website and they appear to be non-religious. Surely Red Crescent is just the Muslim form of the Red Cross (IIRC they objected to the cross as a symbol of Christianity). Maybe they're even the same organization.

Edit: http://www.ifrc.org/ indicates that they're closely allied.

So what your saying is the charities with Christian origins work for all people regrdless of their denomination, but the Islamic Charity (Red Crescent)only considers God fearing Muslims to be worthy causes?.
Isn't that a bit prejudiced?

No, what I was saying is that:
Muslim charities help people in Muslim countries
Christian charities help people in Christian countries, or aim to 'educate' the poor people in Christian doctrine
Non-denominational charities help everyone

We're all wrong
The Red Crescent isn't an Islamic charity at all. There's a bunch of local charities called the Red Cross, and together they form the International Federation. Due to religious beliefs (I guess about wearing/using symbols of another religion) in some Muslim countries the local branch is called Red Crescent.

"Founded in 1919, the International Federation comprises 178 member Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, a Secretariat in Geneva and more than 60 delegations strategically located to support activities around the world. There are more societies in formation. The Red Crescent is used in place of the Red Cross in many Islamic countries."

"During the Russo- Turkish war, the Ottoman Society for Relief to the Wounded displayed a red crescent. This emblem has since been adopted by a number or countries in the Islamic world. It is recognized as having equal status with the red cross, and as such is mentioned in 1949 Geneva COnventions and their Additional Protocols

The Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international; and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering whenever it may be found. its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, co-operation and lasting peace amongst all people.

IMPARTIALITY
It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious belief, class or political opinions. It endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress."

There is of course no requirement for anyone to step down from their soapbox and accept that statement.

Banshi as DrunkNorgy stated Islam charities only help themselves where we as a nation send money to africa/Muslim Nations to help the needy.

Didn't Pakistan close its a borders to afghanistan I seem to remember. Let all those poor beggars starve to death. Thats charity alright-NOT!!!!!

I worked have worked in two muslim Countries- Tunisia/Turkey. And charity was non-existent to the needy. They just starved to death. Compassion was not an issue.
If you think I want to live under an Islamic culture then think again-and that isn't being Racist just my belief. Is that all right Moses??? Or am i a ****-grhhh

Exactly! These animals could not even take care of their own kind, let alone us English
FFS Ben, Pakistan like the other countries bordering Afghanistan were overwhelmed with people fleeing the Taliban Regime and the US bombings. Don't try and make the comparison between genuine asylum seekers and economic migrants. I was asking a question not having a dig. You just show your crass ignorance by calling them Animals. If the economic migrants appeared at the other side of the Chunnel as did these refugees on the Pakistans border, the whole of Britain would **** bricks.

Yes but we wouldn't let them starve to death. Its not british-LOL. I seem to recall all the aid to afganistan came from western aid organisations.
