I went out with a muslim girl from karachi for 3 1/2 yrs and it was a culture shock belive you me.
My family were v. accomodating.
Needless to say i was not invited to meet hers.
Also went to a pre-dominantly muslim college (dont ask me why) in London where i was known as the 'Infidel' due to my conflicting views with a lot of radical islamics.
My mother-in-law worked in a nursery where a lot of muslim women worked and took their kids. The horror stories she told me about the oppression they suffered at the hands of their husbands was unbelievable.
If you think the west is bigoted think again.

At least i can admit that the west has many bad points as qouted by others.
You think islam is perfect and do not even question its ideals when it causes a lot of misery.

Again, though, I will re-iterate that a lot of what has been described in this thread is about culture and not religion
My wife's Pakistani (by ancestry, British by birth) and TBH I think Pakistani culture sucks. But that doesn't mean I think Islam sucks

Popeye I think you'll find alot of aid came from the Saudi government.
Reporting isn't really about what they put in (cos they don't half talk shyte sometimes), its what they miss out. You only have to make a comparison between CNN and the BBC's new coverage on sky to see they can put whatever slant takes the editors mood on the day.

But I already conceded that when in this country it is reasonable to expect those of other demoninations or cultures to adjust their lifestyle accordingly.
BTW I "went out" with a slaughtermans daughter from Birmingham that was also a culture shock.
