OK... serious post.
The list of people wanting to be moderators is long and distinguished!![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
On the whole there area few reasons people are asked to be moderators...
a) they suggest a forum on something they are passionate about and the community agrees it should become a new forum.
b) their posts show them to be VERY level headed and supportive of the community and NEVER even consider asking to be a moderator![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Why the above reasans?
a) because they will clearly be interested in the forum so will read it regularly, and will want it to be a good place free from the less desirable content we sometimes see.
b) if they don't want to be a moderator in the first place, they will have no ulterior motive for being a moderator. The majority of moderators either took some persuasion, or were honoured to be given the responsibility. This means they are humble that they will not consider it something they have gained, and that they respect the community and want good things for it.
What do we moderate?
Main things are :
-Illegal posts (very difficult to know where to draw the line)
-Offensive Posts (very difficult to know where to draw the line)
-Anti-Community Spirit Posts (very difficult to know where to draw the line)
-posts in the wrong forum (sometimes very difficult to know where to draw the line)
What do moderators get in return?
Main things are :
-a whole HILL of hassle
-insults and abuse
-occasional threats and personal attacks
-difficult conversations with me / the other mods when they do something that i / we don't agree with
-NO REWARD other than knowing they are helping and supporting the positive and good side of the community
Why do they do it?
For genuine honest reasons and because every now and then, someone says thank you.
The mods are complete legends as far as I'm concerned.
In-fact... I think we should have a new regime...
Daily THANK A MOD!![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
All the best
Simon
