Andy it must be that good old Scotish air being more dense than our smog

I think I going to have to look at the Nortern section more often as it seems more interesting than our Southern section.

Hi Steve,

Only just noticed your reply, I'm in the same situation as you I noticed my clutch was starting to slip at the weekend, less than 5,000 miles and only about 4 standing starts ( for Banzai Mag Shootout ) since it was replaced, I'm not impressed.

Just wondering why people are moaning about the fans not catering for top mount intercoolers like Powerstation, when the f**k do you drive down the road with your bonnet up to get enough air to cool the top mount intercooler adequately.

When I had my Scooby rolling roaded at Eclipse ( with a top mount intercooler ) they tested all the cars with the fan at the front and the bonnet shut to simulate driveing, the only way to get accurate readings and allowing for any hot air from the engine bay entering the induction kit to be taken into account, not nice cold air blown staight into the filter / engine.

Colin.... if the fan is simulating the air movement over the bonnet then that's fine. At well lane it was pointed right at the radiator and had NO air flow going over the bonnet. This is definately not simulating real world driving conditions.... my bonnet tries to take off at motorway speeds . The last run i went to at Well Lane (2) they asked if you had a FMIC or TMIC and adjusted the position of the fan accordingly (with the bonnet shut). They didn't do that this time...... nevamind .

Still a great day out .

APY 555, if you go to Powerstation they used to rolling road Scooby's with the bonnet open and the cooling fan mounted right above the topmount intercooler blowing staight down onto it, so the intercooler would receive far more cold air than it would through the bonnet scoop, which in my opinion does not achieve realistic results, even though their rolling road results are normaly lower than other rollers.

Tony sorry I didn't realise the fan was mounted so low as not to below up over the bonnet. Sorry I live too far South or less I would of come along.

No worries Colin, the result made me want a FMIC even more. Seeing my first run reach over 285bhp then go down by about 10bhp for each next run was not good . Haven't you got an early WRX which a FMIC? If so which did you go for?

Tony yes I have got a 94 WRX with a front mount, the purple 1 that was at SIDC National day. I managed to get hold of a second hand Apexi unit for £350 but it turns out it was for a 99my. It only took a day to fit the intercooler but it took a further 3 weeks to get the front bumper back on. I would definatly not recommend getting an Apexi unit. If I were to do the job again I would go for the later HKS unit like Rich has, easier to fit and larger core, but using Davids Wallis words "I'm a tight Southerner"

I know the car.... very nice . I think Rich had the right idea with using the later style HKS (and cutting the inner wing), the early one has too many sharp bends in it! He's getting very good results too .

Cheers,

Tony.

Hi Colin,

I remember you from the Banzai article with the 0-60 tests.

Nice car!

Shame you live so far away. Would be nice to see you at one of our events.

Think I'm gonna set up a stall at the next one selling FMICs then maybe there'll be a bit less whinging going on (JOKE)

If my numbers come up this weekend I'm seriously considering setting up my own rolling road ooop North! to compete with all these shiny new ones darn sarf!

Cheers

LOL

If we all put £100 in it'll only take a thousand of us!

With 20 odd thousand Scoobynetters, should be a cinch!

Hi David: Group buy? Ask Andy F about TD05->06 upgrade kits for not a lot of money.
Hi Richard: Can you accomodate me on Sunday coming to see what we can get from an experimental turbo which will be down a little on the original Ion Performance but still very interesting. I will then refit the original turbo which is on its way back from Canada as we speak for reasons I will make public later.
At that point I am happy to have all my figures published on here in the interests of progress and market knowledge.

Harvey,

You can have my place if you like. My car has not changed so I was only running for a bit of fun. I'm quiet happy to step aside

harvey.. not a chance after andy told me the mods to the turbine wheel.. besides boost control doesnt look too nice just yet.. Ill wait until its out of beta for what I have planned.

I can make an fmic for less than 300, but pipe work adds up...

Mine is for sale in for sale section, complete with front entry and samcos... and fitted if required.. also negotiable on price...

Mods to turbine wheel call it a cost effective development programme
I have another turbine wheel to try tonight and may just pop down for a re-run on Sunday afternoon. Weather, Woman and Wild permitting

Hi Rich, if I lived closer I would definatley come along, but it cost me £125 in fuel just to get to the Donny meet and back home. That was with the standard WRX gearbox, now I'm running an RA hybrid box with even lower gearing so I would hate to think how much my fuel bill would be to get to Well Lane.

Perhaps we should arrange a North v Southern lightweights rolling road event in the Midlands so we could all meet up.

Andy,

remember that Scots can only get a slot if they come wearing kilts. Dress or plaid - we don't mind!

Trout

PS Don't fancy running on your cut slicks in this snow - it must be bad enough in the morning dew never mind anything else

No probs, Harvey, I'm sure I can squeeze you in. Same too for Andy.

Getting a bit full though now. Very good of STi wanna to step down.

I'll post a full list up in the other thread now.

North V South meet would be a good one Col. I'm checking places out as we speak.

Mike,

Cheers! It runs 1.5 bar only dropping slightly before the redline to about 1.45. On the rollers though it fell to 1.2 for some reason which explains my crap bhp figure

Cheers

And Bob didnt do anything inbetween

Wonder if the cars slipping was a one off.. who knows

Will have to get bob to use some of his sophisticated equipment for an in car bhp and lb figure....

Rich's car was only holding 1.25 bar.. I know as I was in the back of the car when it was on the rollers... This held boost is spookily similar to what I used to achieve as held boost on the rollers.. but 1.4 bar held on the road.. This was down to a poor turbo inlet pipe.. I got it replaced.. but it retails at about £600+ vat!.. ahh well its only money
