I don't know - NVidia assimilate 3Dfx, and the first combined product suffers from exactly the reason 3Dfx failed - too little too late and rushed out of the door unfinished.
Still, lets hope that most their card vendors redesign the onboard cooling and get rid of that monstrosity of a fan.
