It’s the Gorbals, but I guess you knew that, and the Gorbals of old has long since been torn down and rebuilt. Sighthill is where I work atm, and it’s far, far worse than the Gorbals ever was.

I would say, if i was pushed, that about 5 % max of Sighthill are the sort of people you describe (not literally), the others have the sort of problems you would struggle to imagine.

Sorry, but I do sympathise with a lot of people who are worse of than myself, call it ethics or morals or just plain truth, but sometimes I come home and just get pissed out me face cos its all a bit much to deal with at the end of the day.

Poverty when confronted and in yer face is no laughing matter. Most folk in Sighthill have antiquated houses, electric fires which cost the earth to run, dampness, walls covered with mould which causes asthma, neighbours from hell, druggies everywhere, and do they ask for this, well no, they don’t. They take the house they are offered with three choices max, and then go to the end of the line.

-- I feel sorry for the decent people who live on these bad estates--

So, its not you then, you don’t have this problem, your not a nimby?

Popeye, I agree that some members of society want to take and never give back, but ultimately you and I (people who get up off their *****) always have the upper hand. I would never say I know every issue, it’s just too complicated to fathom imho, and I can’t say why some people might ‘really’ want to live like you suggest.

Don’t worry m8, there’s soon gonna be far more to worry about than single parents and hamburgers.

Id say this virus is spreading at an alrming rate.

I have lived in manchester, sheffield, london, cambridge, nottingham and they all have one thing in common.

Their city centres are plagued with the zombie virus....kids pushing kids in prams...baseball cap shell-suit fathers who dont give a toss....need i go on.

In Manchester, i saw graveyards that had been vandalised. Kids that have no respect for the dead means they really dont no right from wrong. Im sure there was more respect for fellow humans beit dead or alive 30 yrs ago.

I blame it all on television and trevor mcdonald for the crap they screen now. People say that films/tv have nothing to do with it...so why bother marketing on tv?????? Hitler used subliminal images to brain wash his nation.

Some kids are too thick to know right from wrong and get heavily brainwashed by the rubbish they watch. I used to watch bagpuss. They watch bride of chucky.

i listened to erasure singing about love, they listen to eminem singing about murder, rape, drugs and hating his mum.

Too much sex, violence, soaps..and not enough mr ben, rhubarb and custard and willo the wisp.

There lies the answer!

Cool

Well I'm of the opinion that there is nothing wrong in the way that the country is run.

I think Messrs. Blair, Blunkett and Prescott are thoroughly nice blokes and they're jolly well welcome to come round to my house for tea and cookies.

Oh yeah, by the way...

And while I’m at it, there are certain people on this forum who say that anyone who earns less than £50,000 pa are thick, and brag that they stay in a £300,000 house etc. You can work out who they are easily enough, the ones who moan the most, poor them.

No wonder I get pissed off and start mouthing off, if asked I would give an explanation for every outburst I make, but no one asks or cares, usually its based on fighting ignorance and abuse, i.e. saddo net bullies etc. Sometimes I swear, sometimes I ridicule, but its deffo not the underdog’s throat I go for. It’s a crime at the end of the day how some people see others less fortunate than themselves.

I certainly feel someone here needs to address the balance once in a while, K Popeye. Nothing is what it seems, especially not in this forum nor the world in general, and I’ve been reading these sort of posts now for 3 years now but nothing like this lately.

Thing is there's the undeserving poor and the deserving poor. People who are genuinely decent citizens and try to get on with life as best they can, i can identify with.

Then there's the underserving who just milk the system, treat their kids and animals like sh*t and don't put anything back into society. These are the people that worry me. Their kids grow up knowing little different and so the cycle repeats. Ten years from now it will be like the Lord of the Rings and the Two Towers. We'll be the humans protecting oursleves from the hordes of inbreds trying to overun us. LOL.

Thing is, any sytem that dishes out money will face abuse from the lazy and clever.

I knew a bloke (he's dead now) who spent all day every day drinking in my Dad's local - pissed constantly. He's never worked a day in his life, but lived in a free council flat and had enough money to poor Guinness down his throat for 30 odd years til he died of a heart attack!

He wasn't into crime cos he only ever frequented the pub or his flat.

How did he manage it? He pretended to agrophobic(spl) and sponged money from the state. Every 3 months he'd have to be assessed but would put on an Oscar wining performances to get his money. Clever b@stard.

Well you do your fair share of moaning Jye-O.

Not tabloid press but a white van man (why i moan and bitch reading the sun and getting caught in traffic jams) that earns a meagre wage delivering crap.

Not enough to afford a mortgage for a 300k house.

Im afraid you can only sympathise so much with this strata of society. Ok they got dealt a bad set of cards. But so did my both my grandparents and they never resorted to crime or general neglect of humans/animals/property.

The answer is simple as I said just shot theose minging single scabby drug crazed disease ridden thieving single mums.

The government should start an incentive scheme on the basis that for every trolupe you got rid off the lower the tax you would have to pay on your wages.

We could even have televised events game shows etc

Popeye, how can you change this then? Without sounding like a **** (cliché?). If people want to roll around in their own **** let them I say, as long as they don’t get in my face personally in my own time. And btw I live in a council scheme and occasionally have to face the sort of things you mention, but it aint typical m8.

OK I pay tax, and hey, ‘they’ are living tax free on £58 quid a week and whatever else they can claim (in some folks minds), big deal. Every day I have to justify the benefits of working, everyday I ‘do’ wonder if its worth it, but everyday I tell myself, hey, this is all bigger than me anyhow, OR I would join some ****ty political party and try to do something radical about it (and not the BNP, waste of time that would be imo), but praps I’m just too cynical for all that now, praps I just wanna come home, jump in my car (tasty and paid for) and go fishing and say, what the ****, I’m gonna chill and enjoy myself, If they wanna live like that on purpose, then fine.

So, tax payers still have to foot the bill at he end of the day, but ****, were a wasteful species us humans anyhow, always were always will be. The planets fecked anyhow, global warming, pollution, overpopulation etc etc etc. No one man can fight every battle, it’s just too much m8

Im deffo going fishing this weekend now m8, cheers for making me get me rod out anyhow, ooer

Cheers my friend for your kind reassuring words.

But as my grandad says (wise Yoda) everybody has an excuse nowadays for anything and everything. Its time for zero tolerance, declare marshall law and live under in an emperor ming style draconian state.

PPl can commit a crime and then blame it on something else and get their sentence mitigated. There is ALWAYS an excuse. And im afriad you are excusing their misfortune. Well life is tough...always has been.

Stop paying the counsillors and therapists to psycho analyse the pond life and plough the money into 'escape from new york' island prisons where they can do what the fek they want without ruining others lives.

And that applies to the troublemakes who dont respect our WW2 dead and assualt old ladies!

Hear endeth the lesson of stishrek!

Ill tell you what is sad.

Low-lifes who make life miserable for a lot of people.

You need to pour cold water over your head and get a grip of what is happening rather than living in your walt disney fantasy world.

You of all ppl with your job should know and should not be condoning it!!!!!!!!!

Zero tolerance. Only way. Some ppl are beyond help and you need to realise it than excusing their behaviour ffs!!!!

Bugger, I just wrote a really long post on this, and I reckon that, for once, we might all have been in agreement.

However, I screwed up and lost the whole thing, and now must be reduced to this:

StiShrek -

"i listened to erasure singing about love, they listen to eminem singing about murder, rape, drugs and hating his mum."

Shrek, is there something you haven't been telling us? Something about Erasure's particular 'brand' of spangly jock-strap-wearing love that had such a profound effect on you during your formative years? If so, I shall no longer look on your comments about minorities with such disbelief, since you may have direct experience after all

Wow. Some huge assumptions here.

Assumption all people on welfare are low lifes. The young man who was recently convicted of doing £300k worth of damage to the Northern Line tubes was......... the son of a Barrister.

I personally think there but for the grace of God go I. Say for example Popeye that you were driving just a fraction over the speed limit, knocked over a kid and were banged up for 3 years. How would you rate your job chances on leaving jail? I suspect some welfare benefit would come in handy!

I went out on the lash Wednesday in the City. Spent about £70. Pretty normal spending. Walking through Bank subway there was a kid in a sleeping bag. About 18 I'd guess. I had a chat with him, not for long and I gave him a couple of quid. I genuinely don't believe he chose to live his life like that, he'd been sleeping rough for about 3 months. Didn't get on with his step dad. Now to choose to sleep on a pavement.... life must be pretty bad. I have to say it quite upset me.

So I'm sorry I don't subscribe to the "all claimants are low life theory" but what I do believe is that succesive governments have missmanaged the welfare system, particularly in respect of benefits and this is why it's such a mess.

So yes I agree with the welfare state, in the main don't resent coughing up for it but I do think it needs to be revamped to rid it of much of the fraud that goes on around it.

fatherpierre,
I, and a lot of others don't care about the unter-mensche that we are talking about. Those that offend against society should be punished and jail is not a re-education place.
The only problem being, that we live in a pathetic society that, in the long term, affects the common man, not the scum.
Single, council-house living bitches - sterilise them.
Those convicted, undoubtedly, of murder, I'll cough up for the 9mm round for every one.
The country is going so quickly down the pan that we will honestly regret what we have, or more accurately, have NOT done.
