Strange performance from STi7

Rich,
Can you please explain the difference/relationship between pressure and flow? I would have thought that if the pump cannot flow enough fuel, the pressure at that time would drop off?
Has anybody actually measured the flow of the pump and does anybody know if/where the pump specs can be obtained for the standard pump and if these can be tested?
Cheers,
Matt

Tony,
Does it? I don't follow?
I wouldn't change the pump just yet and risk screwing your WARRANTY () but I would get on to IM and find out their stance on the matter, and what they intend to do about it. If lots of people do this then they *might* just do the right thing (but don't hold your breath!! ).
They did not supply my car so I don't have this problem but being my local agent, I will hassle them anyway to see what they have to say....
Now off to see if my car dets on PE's rollers (I hasn't on any of my DD logged runs on the roads....)
Cheers,
Matt
I'll try not to get all technical on it LOL but reading it seems to be more a ECU software fault than a bad pump ???

Matt,
I thought/read that ( sorry me thinking again) the ECU shuts the Pump to light duty, 6Vdc, at low boost, which could mean at 6.5krpm + the pump could be at low duty.

Happy with my results from Power Eng RR day
Pre PPP (+WRS Back box) 272BHP 262LBS/FT
PPP 299BHP 303LBS/FT, nice flat curves as well!
The figures from Powerstation always seem loads lower! Why such a huge variation???
Merv thinks the figures of the Power Eng rollers are abour right, and a standard car produces near book figures.

Scoobycar,
I have sent my graph's to gareth 3 off us were got to PE in January but unforeseen circumstance ment we had to cancell at the last minute. Your reading do seem to be nearer to "what it say's on the Tin"
My Pre PPP figure was low due to worst home Mod on a Std Exhorst long story) the other 3 Stock Sti7's were all the 261-262 bhp at Powerstation IIRC

Andy / Tony,
My car is currently in the garage and both myself and the garage have had conversations with Mike at Prodrive.
The most obvious problem which Mike picked up on was the Torque curve, which comes in very late. I can post them on here if anyone is interested.
As I type, no-one is sure whether it is the car itself or the PPP that is causing the problems, but I’m staying optimistic..
I will post when it has been resolved and then I hope to go back to SAS Rolling road to do a direct comparison.
Gareth.
Forgot to say, Tony, my PPP was fitted just before xmas, whereas Andy's was the first one that our dealer fitted.

..... or run it on Super+ and have your car Det and only produce 288bhp.
Hmmm, i'm not a very happy bunny. I will do as they say and i've just emailed SAS to book another rolling road session to prove it one way or the other.
If it does fix it, I can see some quite angry threads starting and thats not by me.....
edited = replaced Cat with Car. I must have been thinking that I need to go home and feed the cats

I see STi Japan sell an uprated pump but dont know the specs on it.
http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/parts/new_impreza/cat3.html
The PowerStation pump on their site is rated to 6.5-7bar max and the standard one was tested at 6bar. Would an uprated regulator be required for 1bar higher pressure?
Doesnt seem like the STi8 has a different pump so they dont seem to be aware of any issue. Can the pump be sufficient for the PPP if it struggles with a standard STi? I imagine Prodrive tested things extensively but why did they not pick this up.
I find it frustrating that if you upgrade the pump you will probably loose your warranty. Its not really a performance mod.

Its not the pressure that could cause a problem its the flow. There isn't a problem with the flow on these pumps as they run "low flow" on light loads.

Thanks Rich, I see the problem.
STi pump:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...Fsti01031.html
Presume WRX and STi share same pump.
The advanced fuel pump is the fuel pump which guarantees the fuel flow which is necessary for the output improvement of the engine. Fuel flow 180 L /h (at the time of the emission pressure 300kPa), is increasing injection-valve open pressure to 650 kPa. As for part constitution with the fuel pump and set of the filter, exchanging the pump body part of standard fuel pump ASSY, you use.

DJB,
sorry to Hijack your thread with this Fuel pump buisness but reckoned it's all related so I started a thread, as Matt said HERE
Matt,
I'll try not to get all technical on it LOL but reading it seems to be more a ECU software fault than a bad pump ???
All,
I rang my Dealer (Listers) Asked if Warrentee would be affected if I bought a new pump and they fitted it the said if the engine blew up with a non OEM fuel pump they said IM might have a case for saying NO to any claim
He did say, and cannot be confirmed that IM/Prodrive are aware of this issue. Prodrive are are working on software upgrade and or replacement Pump for the STi8 Hopefully it will then filter down to us STi7 owners so he said wait to see what happens before possibly vioding my warrentee.
