why pitch the scoob agains a load of 2 seaters in the first place, surely he was after a 2 seater summer toy rather then the all round ability that we all know & love. will he still be loving the grif once the "long" summer spell has ended? & has to leave for work nice & early in the pissing rain & freezing fog in his rwd 5litre fibreglass tub? er no

Cool

In the future - he buys the TVR. It breaks down a lot - the Mrs gets to know the breakdown man real well and ends up running off with him. It finally occurs to Baldy he should have bought the Scoob afterall........

NB - no offence to those of a follickly challenged nature! Just can't remember the guys name!

What was not clarified was how much if any financial input was coming from the "other half" ..... she seemed to more than call the tune so may have been paying a fair whack! ...... or even more. Female earning power been well on increase in recent years. Several local Scobbies driven by females in Glos area ... can't all be their partners' cars can they ? ...

Seen locally in last few days. Hi spec Imps with Gold alloys driven by heavyweight female (big bird ) and similar car by very aged granny type crouched over steering wheel at sedate pace. Also Un-IDeed female in silver Imp. .....

Anyone here .... Isdat you? ... c'mon ... own up ..

Contrary to you lot I thought they were both fairly normal people.

Wifey confirmed the views of the majority of roadgoers about the Scooby Sti7: "It looks horrible"

As most of the people who see you in the car will look AT it, and not admire the performance, don't slag her for it.

She looked quite foxy IMO

I thought they were pretty normal too. He clearly loved it, she did'nt like it. It was'nt the lights, or the gold wheels or the spoiler. She wanted an open top sports car, not a rally car for the road. She would have said the same thing if they had got an Evo, or a skyline or a cossie.

Looking at the number plate of the car **51**X, this is the standard press demonstrator STI, which was fitted with the PPP later on in life. I suspect this car was filmed in June/July as so would be standard, but thrashed by all kinds of journo's

The guys face showed it all, when he was driving it though
http://www.bbc.co.uk/motoring/wcrc/index.shtml

I do wonder if they are still driving the TVR though, they do have a reputation for unreliability and being tricky in the wet. It's a shame they don't do a follow up, esp after all the snow we had..

Nice choice (NOT), would be interested for the Beeb to do a follow up show in say 1 month to see if its been wrote off yet.

What a Rodney, he wanted a car that sounds loud - a simple zorst mod on the S3 would have been sufficient. Mind you its an S3, lost a load of money on that car - no common sense either.

As for her.....

Are you sure????

A follow up would certainly be entertaining I'm sure: "Oversteer - a compilation of sideways momements"

Fantastic programme, and (shocking, this) I think he chose the right car for him.

he didn't really need/want the practicality of the impreza, and lets face it, the TVR is in most people's eyes quite a lot more special than an Impreza.

Ooh you have a cruel streak Mr Smalley...

Hehehe

Actually I think follow-up programmes would be a great idea, it would be interesting to see if the cars turned out to be everything their new owners hoped they would be.

I'm glad you guys have covered the points I had in my head :

He is a telecoms engineer 30-40k
She is a teacher 18-25K

WTF with her telling him what car to have ?
Does this go on in relationships?!

Rosie palmer and her 5 mates will have to do for me if so

Not sure about her, she looked ok from a distance but closer she has teeth like Esther Rantzen/ Janet Street Porter....

As for TVR, I'm led to believe you need a second car due to the number of issues owners have with them.

He's only just moved in with her and she's firing the shots. Sad, very sad.

Relationships are about compromises from both sides, or doesn't anyone else think that?

I'm half expecting comments like "anyhow, what was she doing out of the kitchen/bedroom".

Anyhow, at the end of the day he might well have preferred the TVR over the scoob anyhow. Who cares, it was a great entertaining programme that featured some great cars and opened another person's eyes to the joy of scoobdom

Me thinks several peolple on here must have had beer goggles on, as she was one ugly woman,i would have slowed the STi down to 30mph and opened the passenger door and kicked her out.
But she did wear the trousers in that relationship, he was a ***** when it came to possibly upsetting her.

I found myself thinking "Did she ever drive the Scoob then?" (Or the TVR come to think of it...)

How can you make a decision about what car you like if you don't drive them?

Nic. (My other half) hated the Scoob and thought it an ugly enormous waste of time and money, until she drove it on some twisties .
(Now it's still a waste of money and it's still not pretty, but at least it's fun!)

If they had stuck a TypeR in there I think that they would have walked with that easy. Much faster than the UK car and a bit more sporty which seemed to be what they were after.

All in all, I think he made a good choice. This is a scooby board and its obvious they way most people here would sway. We love em.

The TVR is an enthusiasts car, and you can't knock it. Just try driving one, they are amazing. Plus its not ugly like the bugeye.

i have to say that he said " i hated it until i drove it"

the grin was the biggest of all the cars he drove when in the scoob.

secondly, he said "i dunno, when i drove it - something changed?"

welcome to my world!

Bloody good point dnb
For her i think it was more about image than performance and
handling. I dont think it would have mattered if it was an
sti8 in black to her.
She was after what she percieved to be the prestige badge TVR
If it was a drivers car he wanted, there was no competition-
scooby all the way.
But it would not impress her freinds down at the wine bar

My misses loves our scooby.
But then she has got taste

Greg
