Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but bear in mind that the pipe fittings / design on top of the power steering pump on the new shape car is totally different to the old shape.
You can still couple the "new shape" header tank to accomodate the "old shape" pump, but they are different.

What i'm saying is, they haven't just taken off the header tank and relocated it to the side of the radiator....

Will post some better pictures when I get hold of a digital camera. Honest.
Still have ABS. Should be visible in photos? Think it is very worthwhile except on the very rare days we have snow that lies on the road surface.
The reservoir is part #34630FE000 Rec. Ret. Price=£56.46+vat
The feed pipe 34611FE00 £27.03
You may be able to negotiate a discount with your friendly Subaru parts supplier.
I made the return pipe in AeroQuip.ATF is flamable, gets hot and is under pressure so do not use hose that is not up to the job.
The flange connection on top of the pump is made from the original aluminium die cast reservoir which was smashed with a hammer then cut down and ground to leave a flange that looks O/E and retains the 'O' ring and groove. I tapped a fitting into this so I had something to attach the feed to. I also kept the diameters at a maximum by drilling the hole out before tapping and reamered out the pipe fitting.
Works as good as O/E and no noises even on cold start when temps are below zero.

Hmm...Interesting.
Could make life simple for anyone wanting to do this.
Steve
Do you know are can you check if the pitch for mounting bolts are the same between say a '99 car and that one?

If anyone is interested in yet another alternative, I just finalised the spec of a pair of power steering relocation adapters with my friendly local CNC laser cutting outfit. They'll be 304 grade stainless steel, one to bolt onto the pump, the other to bolt onto the tank. Just add a bit of rubber hose and put the original tank wherever you want
