I like the way they are checking traffic a little to the west of the airfield in case a terrorist has a stinger (or similar).
Thing is you can take out a jumbo over Bracknell (or even further west), they are still so low they are well within stinger range.
I kind of took the cynical view that is was a propaganda move, but there again, the effect on international travel and business is a big hit to take for a bit of positive spin.
Cheers
Ian

'A tank would at least have some chance of stopping a truck.'
How the hell can anything stop a truck that is on a one stop suicide mission? No hope. All the truck needs to do is drive into a departure/arrival terminal and kaboom-game over man!

I am no expert, i did spend a week with the RAF regiment in Germany at the height of the Cold War and the last thing those guys do is make themselves shown when protecting an airfield.
In case you dont know, the RAF regiment is a specialist force tasked with protecting RAF bases, their main training/barracks is at Catterick. They are seriously impresive at what they do.
The APC's are publicity and the guys sat in them would not be able to do a damn thing about a terorist attack.

Credible terrorist threat my ar$e - When the IRA were bombing Warrington, London, Manchester there weren't any such displays of our stance against the terrorists with weapons not unlike the one's we're led to believe this is all about. If they have evidence why not just arrest the bast@rds when them come through customs with their SAM missiles - Oh - I forgot they're busy stopping motorists with cheap booze !!!!
******* place is really starting to get on my **** Come on Tony - just attack Iraq for ***** sake - let's get it over with !
