I wanted a unique(ish) scoob so I didn't want 4 doors and I didn't want blue - ended up getting STI5 Type R in cool grey - at least I can find it in the car park at scoob meetings.
For every hundred 4 door cars you will only see a couple of 2 doors.

Nothing wrong with the version 4 at all, it's just that I want to go newer than my MY98 - So i can get the updated bumper and large spoiler (I know I could get these put on - but if people are saying I can get a v5 for circa 13-15k then I would rather get a v5 and have the body as standard than get a v4 and have to modify the body!!!!)

Buy the Type R, but be prepared to add P1 suspension. I found the jap suspension made the car too nervous - the p1 suspension is fabulous and somehow sems to "soften" the diff - at least it doesn't seem to lock up the rear and step out so badly now.
Had it over 2 years and it still imtimidates me!

Thats the point the version four would be
STI WRX IV Limited
The version six would be
STI WRX VI Limited
Like calling the STI7 an STI 7 its not its just a scoobynet thing. It really name is a new age STI .

Ah, but the normal TypeR doesn't have a roof vent, thats a Limited model item! The TypeR doesnt have as light a shell as the TypeRA. All STi5/6 have inverted struts but the TypeRA has higher spec valving and spring rates.
Spare Quickrack, you will be lucky!

Mines got it all (I think) quick rack, Bilstein suspension, roof vent, badge thats says "033 of 555 V-Limited", no bloody equipment (sorry i mean its light weight), thin glass, + strut braces everywhere, sound like standard fit equipment?? its only an STi version 2 but it does the job.

I think whats confused you may be that Subaru decided to give its special edition "555" models the worlds longest name (refer to JohnFelstead's example above) so I won't go into it again but as for the "its only a STi 2" bit there are probably a few on here with Sti 4 and Sti 5 version's that would say their's is better but I don't care to get into that argument (too much work to do, can't spend all day web chating )

John in what respect is the RA lighter than the Type R?
I was led to believe by the subaru dealer that i bought my car off that the RA is only lighter in standard spec and once you start adding things like A\C, E\W, C\L, Spoiler etc it ends up weighing the same as (if not heavier) then a Type R because of the 4 doors.
Not trying to question your knowledge, just trying to understand if the this is true.
Also when i imported the car over, on the bill of laden they had the weight down as 1174kgs (that was with a 1/4 tank of fuel).
I would presume that would be quite accurate as the need to know how much they could get onto the ship.
p.s. not trying to turn this into a my car is lighter than your car debate just trying to get to the bottom of this as its something thats always bugged me.

The reason I was confused was because Chrisp said a few posts before that 'V' in v-limited came from the fact that it was and STI v5
Then tizard99 posted that his STI v2 had a badge on the dash saying '033 of 555 V-Limited'
From what was said I would have expected it to say '033 of 555 II-Limited'

If you look at http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#2.1 website you will see it says "WRX STi2 555 4 door" and "WRX RA STi2 V-Limited" special editions but mine is both If I get a minute I will take a photo of the badges if it helps.
So they did make V-limited from STi2 on. But im now confused what it means.......
As for getting back on topic you have various options but Autotrader seems to be the best, followed by Exchange and mart and Loot (which is free). You could try the performance mags but they are normally so out of date the vehicles sold before going to press.

Hey Ragnarock2, dont get a Silver STI Type R V5 as I have one of them and also live in Ipswich so then there will be two around the area
Get one mate, its the first scoob I have ever had and it is great!
If you can afford it you should get a Link ECU & Knocklink fitted. Seems to be bit safer for your engine as it will be mapped for Optimax and not for the jap's 100% RON fuel.
I was lucky enough to find my Type R (was for sale on here) and it already had fitted - Scoobysport Down pipe, Centre, back box & equal length manifold as well as 17" prodrive alloys bigger breaks etc. Cost £13,500 on 37K miles a year ago. Running 319Bhp.
Keep looking you will find one!

Nice!!!
I havent seen your scoob running about Ipswich, do you work locally??
I paid around that figure for my MY98 UK car about 18 months ago, wish I had held on a bit now!

On the Sti 6 Type R does it have a 5 or 6 gear box ? Seems to look like 5 but I thought it was a six speed ?
Or is the six speed box only on the limited edition ?
Just having a look on the photocopied Jap manual from the web.
Any recommendations for good insurance companies for this beast ?
