I had to stop for a car doing a 3point turn on the slip road leaving Burtonwood services on the M62 west-bound during the roadworks.

Facing towards the oncoming traffic, he then drove along the coned-off hard shoulder back towards Liverpool!

And he put his 2 fingers up when I beeped him!

Car towing a caravan on the M6 northbound. Not sure what happened, but police were in attendance, the car was facing the wrong way in the outside lane, the caravan was on its side and was still attached to the car, which had its rear wheels some two feet off the tarmac.
Oh, and just prior to this on a clear day, car in front of me failed to notice the tailback of slow moving traffic (which was visible from nearly a mile away) caused by above accident, and nearly piled into the back of it judging by the smoke coming off his tyres as he skidded to a halt

Me ex-wifes driving - scared me 5hitle55 on numerous occasions - of course it was always the others who were in the wrong.

Two months after she'd left she destroyed the car I had had to give her as part of the divorce settlement - I was gutted........ not

A sofa.

In the middle lane doing about 50. But decelerating fast, and not espcially stable either.

On its own.

Oh, and a really frightened looking bloke in a Marina with a roofrack and some string hanging off it making a dive for the hard shoulder.

Comedy compounded by the fact that at the time I was doing a project for the Old Bill and was a passenger in a marked motorway patrol car.

Oh how we laughed

Someone reversing up the left lane of the sliproad from the M23 to the M25. Not even on the hard shoulder.

I missed him by about a foot, I guess. And nearly shat myself.

Sadly on this occasion I wasn't in a police car.

Again in a marked car, this time on the M40. There are 3 cars on the road on a bright sunny day. A minibus doing about 55, a police Range Rover doing about 65 and...

... a Jag doing about 130.

Must have had about 2 miles visibility, but apparently he hadn't spotted us

last yr M6 wee hrs of the morning. A ford mondeo in the fast lane, then suddenly ran into central reservation and spun into the hard shoulder across all 3 lanes.

me and mate in type R right behind the mondeo, luckily we were driving within the limit but able to stop in time before the car hit us.

driver said he lost control, that's all. anyway, we left when we saw that he was alright but poor mondeo. very sure he dozed off at the wheeels.

On numerous occasions, a.n.other old person in their old banger sitting in the 3rd lane of the 4 lane stretch of the M25 anti-clockwise from the A3 junction.. when all other lanes are clear for 1/2 mile or more!

Infact scratch that, just a.n.other person doing it..

Packed motorway in France near Lyon, but traffic all going nicely with speeds of up to 90mph.
Suddenly, brake lights in front, and cars swerving about everywhere. I was towing a caravan, NOT at 90:, so could slow but not swerve, Turned out to be a mountain bike lying in the road, fallen off someone's roofrack!!
Scariest thing was overtaking a slow moving truck on the A1, towing a caravan, when one of his wheel nuts sheared off, and came through my front windscreen.
Powdered glass everywhere, (luckily, I'm wearing sunglasses, so none in my eyes!), and it hit me in the right shoulder, numbing that arm immediately, before careening off me, and hitting my eldest lad under his right eye!!
I managed to slow, and pulled onto the next layby, so no real harm done, but brown trousers were the order of the day all round!!!

Might as well add another story to my thread

Sal and I were on the M25 last year, when a pair of skis came off the roof rack of a car going in the opposite direction. They came directly at us - thankfully they hit the central reservation - very unnerving

I read on Piston heads that a young lady who had just past her test was spotted by a police car he pulled up along side her as she was doing 95mph and tap on his window.....she looked over panicked and slam on her brakes and stopped dead in the outside lane off the M25!!!

Van driver following lost control and crashed into a bridge and died!!! She got 12 months ban and has to retake her test!!!

I say never let her drive again!!!

Red face

Mid afternoon westbound on the A14 just outside Bury St. Edmunds I met a full size bin in the fast lane, brown trousers, just avoided it, but hit the whole wing mirror unit off a green astra, literally exploded under my front left and showered the car behind with glass and plastic who also now managed to dodge the bin. Spotted the offending idiots just down the road wondering where there bin and wing mirror were, well they were only getting one back.

Talking

Came off a slip road, miles from anywhere (at 3am) to see a naked bloke jumping about waving at me!! Needless to say I didn't stop to see what he wanted, no matter how cold it was.
Now if it had been a woman.....

A nutter creating a new lane between lane 2 and 3. Yes that's correct, he overtook? between two lines of traffic just like bikes do at about 90mph. I had to pinch myself to make sure it wasn't some wierd nightmare. It wasn't even weaving between staggered traffic, he was going between parrallel cars

My brother in law was going through road works, all three lanes were shifted to the left simultaneously and he was in lane three. Guy in lane two decides to keep in a straight line whilst along side him. Brother in law has no choice but to hit the cones. Not funny at all.
