Well i thought i'd ruled out the module...

I took the module out and went for a small test drive sunday, the missfire was still there and i came home thinking the module was not the problem at all, emailed Paul to say not module, sorry Paul looks like I should have tested better.

I didn't check was the boost problem, lesson learnt don't presume, and after 3 days of testing my results are

Without module:

Missfire, 0.90bar on WOT(all the time), normal idle

With module:

Missfire(confirmed not module related), 1.15bar on WOT, 0.64bar on WOT sometimes and when this occurs my idle is approx 500rpm.

I've studied my boost gauge over the past 3 days without the module and it hasn't once come in less than 0.90bar and the idle is fine.

With module it would go into 0.64bar at least once in a journey on WOT, and as i say it would go to normal of it's own accord.

My theory (after reading what JGM said) is that the missfire (dodgy coil packs) is affecting the module causing the boost problems (don't know why, Paul any thoughts?). The missfire doesn't appear to affect the standard map.

One sure way to tell is if like JGM i change the rest of my coil packs and get the same results as JGM. Interesting you have low idle still.

I'm going to change the rest of my coil packs because as you say Paul no error codes stored is more likely pointing to this plus £178 + VAT for a MAF to test..I don't think so.

Wonder if there is a reason the module would be affected by the coil packs breaking down, if your car stays good JGM and mine works properly after the coil pack change it must do??

It's all good fun though, eh?

She is running really nicely today and boosting more like 0.9bar on normal ECU code.. it was cold so I just run on that... etc..

Running really really well but still the tickover problem?

Coil packs are £48.22+VAT from the dealer, or £25+VAT from Grade A James..

I was lucky to get 3 secondhand for £48 off SIDC forums..

I suspect the problem is worse on the adaptor as it ups the boost so the problems occurs.. if you upped the boost by another method it would probably still do the same etc... just my 2pennies worth..

I believe Rich Wild was having trouble not getting full boost on his car and changed the coil packs and all was fine.. which is why I was hopeful..

Got the rest of me coil packs ordered today so I'll know friday whether they were a contributing factor in my boost troubles!. Hopefully get rid of this missfire at least!

I have done about 15miles today and tick over is much better.. not sure if this is a coincedence or the coil packs have helped.

It is so much more powerful now I am running on standard ECU and saving the adaptor for when I get bored!

I shall know more when I do the 200miles home on Friday whether the tickover is fixed or not for sure.

Put me coil packs on this morning.
No more missfires

Thought i'd try my theory(missfire possibly affecting module to cause my boost troubles) and put the ecu module back in and see if the boost problem had gone... no luck, boost still hits 0.64bar sometimes. Car runs fine on standard map now but sadly module doesn't wanna play.

Unhappy

Just read this thread.... add me to the list.

Basically mine can do this at 2/3rds throttle, full throttle etc. There are no check engine lights and if i accelerate again say 5 mins later (not turned the engine off) then all is fine . No error codes stored either. However my lamdalink is doing very strange things (and can be fine the next) so im thinking that this may have something to do with it???? It's also idling quite badly which would point at this too, new lambda sensor is in order i think.

MY93 WRX, running 16.5 psi boost. No coil packs changed tho on mine . I've not tried it without the adaptor board... i don't think it's not that tho.

Mine is still idling low.. although perhaps better but difficult to tell.. just occasionally..

No 0.5bar boost again but then it only occurred the once..
Has been running really well except the tickover..
Anyone know if any of the sensors are used at tickover?

I was bedding in some mintex brake pads Thursday night and so doing some spirited runs to get heat in them when the clutch slipped and it slipped again the next morning, but not since..
Looking into changing it but hoping it might last a few weeks yet as it was fine since slipping twice.. maybe it was glazed..

I've had that too.... this was a good few weeks ago. The clutch slipped quite badly but driving the same way the same place (travelling to work) nearly every day and not done it since .

Oh... funny enough mine was in 3rd and within 20metres of the same place...

I have switched it back to original ECU thinking that perhaps it was a warning on impending clutch failure and the lower boost would be better for it.. drove 200miles since and no problem including to redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd as I had decided it was fixed and wanted an "Are you going to let me down or not" answer as I was near home.. and nothing...

Perhaps my successive high rev runs to get heat in the pads glazed the clutch and it slipped and then slipped again the next more and now the glazing has worn off? I might try it on the Adaptor again and see what happens.. a little most kindness with the clutch needed though..

Still I now know what is involved with changing it and the cost involved..
