I'm gonna get a Supra! £2000 insurance, but third party only. Get a years no claims then get it insured fully comp. I love the Supras, you just have to drive them sensibly and don't drive like a idiot! Plus with traction control........

What about 100bhp of NITROUS? Then you'd be looking at 436bhp

Cool

Have u checked out the mark vi bulliten board they can give best advice on mods but off top of head u dont need nitro to get 400+ BHP outa supra but at least the engine internals are good for that & a whole lot more power. But i'm still guna go with scoob i think as if nothing else supra is 3" wider so cant fit in current garage & i aint buyin place till we have a house price fall ting
But at the idea of doina super car third party only! Fair enough it's yer money/risk but i'd want my *** covered & if i kudn't afford insurance then there's even less chance of me affording decent mods for a decent car! Just a few forts

Didn't think you could get 3rd party only insurance on cars over £5k? Also i'd agree with what's been said above that you'd be a lot better off buying a hot hatch to build up driving experience & no claims.

I'm not old enough to be your dad 'cos i'm 23 going on 40 though lol But seriously i'm speaking from experience

It's OK buying a high power car at that age but keeping it out of the hedge/other cars is a different story!
I'm sure there's plenty of people on here too that will agree with me when I say i'm glad I didn't have a high power car like that when I was 19/20 because I would probably have killed myself, or someone else

Cheers for all the advice guys, but i allready have a Saxo VTR, and don't want another hot hatch. I'll be getting a house in 2 or 3 years time so now is the only time i can get one of these type of cars. You can't get 3rd party fire and theft for cars over 5k, but 3rd party only you can.

Supra turbo it is i think, can't wait!

I can afford the insurance and petrol, if for the first yeah i pay £2000 for third party. They do a deal where you pay £2000 for 8 months but get a years no claims. Pretty good like!
Then i'll insure it fully comp after that for a year or 2.

But it's going to cost £6500 for fully comp now! I ain't paying that, and i won't stuff it in a hedge cos i won't drive it like a nugget. Try not too anyway

Didn't realise you had a hot hatch already

Full respect to you then, if you can afford to buy and insure it at your age then all the best mate, I know I wish I could have!
Just hope it doesn't get stolen as it'd be one thing knowing that you lost £7k because you stacked it but another to know you lost it because of some theiving c$£t!

Gareth

Oh and btw it's easier to say you won't drive like a nugget than do it! I think we all say it at some time but you see a nice clear bit of road and the good intentions go out of the window

If I had thought it out a bit more id have owned a Scoob/Cossie/Supra when i still lived at home. With my own house its just way too expensive for me to run one of these cars. I'll just have to make do with my recently aquiared Clio Williams Only £396 FC, I will get that Scoob but its way off at the mo!

1) If you can't afford to insure a Supra properly, you sure as hell can't afford to run one. Trust me on this - a Supra is a very expensive car to run, as you'd expect something that cost £40k+ when new to be. Oil/filter every 4500m (less if modded), service (£200+) every 9000, major service (£350+) every 27000, plugs are £84 for a set, front discs are £70 each, engine mounts (known to fail on older cars) are £400+ to replace, cambelt (60k or 5 years old, whichever first) is £200. Aircon may need a recharge, that's £60, tyres are from £450 a set for standard wheels, 22mpg is good going, 18mpg normal for light mods, any modded Supra requires SUL, imports require it when stock, and need SUL plus booster when modded. Intercoolers cost at least £500 for a non-OEM replacement (they deteriorate with age, like any IC), fan belt is £150 to replace, brake pads are expensive, etc etc etc. It all adds up, and very quickly.

2) You're a fool if you think the standard TC will keep you out of trouble - it's more likely to get you *into* trouble. It's dangerously bad.

3) You're going from a low (relatively) power FWD to a high-power and *high torque* RWD car. Anything you think you know about driving quickly will become totally unapplicable, and if you try to drive a Supra the way you do a Saxo you *will* crash, probably badly. This is a car which makes more torque at 2000rpm than a Saxo does at 6000, and will easily spin the wheels if not careful. The transition from single to twin-turbo operation is perfectly capable of ripping traction away from the wheels in 2nd and even 3rd gear in the dry with even light mods, up to 4th in the wet. Again, do not rely on the stock TC to save you, it won't.

Don't buy a Supra, save your money, build up your NCB, go on a course and learn how to drive a powerful RWD car where you'll have plenty of room to make mistakes, and *then* get a Supra when you can afford to run, insure and drive it properly.

mate cheers for all the advice but i'm still getting one. I'm going to have some great fun with it. And about the pricing of services, bits etc. Thats not a problem i can afford it easily! The petrol aswell is not a problem, but i'd rather pay £4000 less for insurance for 8 months mate. Much prefer it.

When i get the car i'm going to go on advanced driving courses with the car. Iv'e been taught lots of good driving skills etc from my uncle who's a traffic sergeant in the police.

A good reason why inexperienced drivers should think very carefully before getting something like a Supra - the driver was 18:
