there is a screen and details of how to inspect it are provided....however, the amount needed to get him to pull it of ebay is £3500 so it seems he is hoping to sell it for proper money.

be interesting to see what happens if his bids get noway near that.....i suspect they will though....just watch

Unhappy

*sigh*

Try asking whether you can collect the screen in person - a beer says you get an excuse, or no reply at all.

Bear in mind most police forces in the UK follow a "buyer beware" policy.

I've had a reply - he wants what he can get for it by the look of it. I wrote in German, and he answered saying he's an American citizen in Berlin...

My brother in law is in Frankfurt, which is too far away to have it checked out and pay cash if it works out. Still, at least someone is answering mails though his initials (fh) don't match the email address.

Subject: Important Message from eBay Loss Prevention Department
Date: 20/02/2003 18:00:39

We are writing to inform you that we recently ended all listings for seller adamandmelissa3018@yahoo.com on eBay. The seller’s privileges to trade on eBay have been temporarily suspended while we investigate this matter further. (The current account status can be viewed next to the user ID of the seller on the eBay site.).

Our records indicate that you were a participating bidder or buyer in this seller’s listing. You will need to use your own personal judgment in deciding whether to complete this transaction.

As described in our User Agreement, eBay is only a venue, and we cannot guarantee that sellers will complete transactions nor can we guarantee the delivery or quality of bought items. As a basic principle, a buyer should know with whom he or she is dealing before sending a payment to a seller.

Depending on the circumstances, you might decide to delay payment to a seller until completely confident that the transaction will be completed safely. If you decide to delay payment but already paid by personal cheque, you may wish to contact your bank to discuss whether it would be possible to stop payment on the cheque. If you paid with a credit card, you may wish to contact your credit card company’s security department to discuss this payment – many companies provide protection in certain circumstances. If you paid by money order, you may want to contact that money order company for information on how to stop payment.

Please note that the ending of the listings for this seller is a precautionary measure. The grounds for this suspension may be the result of a mistake or misunderstanding.

That's that cleared up then!

They wanted half up front, half when received. After all, half of something is better than nothing...

Amazing.... just got this reply

you don't have to win...
I shipp this in 2 days, payment only via western union, but only after you reveive and inspect the item.
you forgot to mention a price.
reply me asap with a decent offer and we'll have this deal real fast.
thanks
Smells suspiciously like a job I'm dealing with at the moment!

Western Union? Yes please. I'd like to give at least £1k to a complete stranger and never see it again.

Sad thing is.... people actually DO this. *sigh*

I've subsequently found out that the 3 stolen from the trade show were Sony's. However, there may well have been more stolen.

BuRR,

thing is, if the person is in another country, nout you police can do

For instance, I was ripped off my a person in Romania - reported it, but nothing the Police can do.

Very Annoying!!

Just read from a website, dedicated to Plasma TV reviews, that scams abound in Ebay concerning Plasmas at absurd prices.
Anyway, bidding over the net for these stuff is very risky. What happens if after receiving the unit (that is assume that u do receive it), it turns out that there are many dead pixels on the screen? Do u think u can exchange it? The repair bills on these things are huge if things go wrong.

So, if someone put one the same item up for 3.5k then that's less likely to be a fraud?
