Track day car for < £1000

scooby jawa - i agree with everything you have said, regards rust, lift off over-steer etc.
i am so pleased that you found the mi16 conversion easy, as i am about to do mine.
i have estimated that a mi16 with twin 45 carbs on will produce approx 190 bhp.
the pug weighs 910 kg. with mi16 engine maybe a bit more.
so we can say 1000kg - i think i am right in saying that the power to weight ratio will be about 190bhp/ton! exceptional i would say. probably as good a point to point weapon as a scoob.
bought a 405 mi16 last week - tax and test til end of month, clean bodywork and immacualte interior. only problem was ABS - £200! a veritable bargain. does not smoke or rattle and even pulls the 405 along with alarming pace!
i am looking very much forward to this project!
the choice is yours scotsman, but if cheap fun is what you want, look no further.
good luck,
weava

I'm looking at 205 for track use as well. Just checked www.justgtis.com, and they do the Mi16 conversion and are currently developing a Cossie engine to fit as well. Nothing new I know but might be worth a look.
Anyone done anything with the brakes and springs and dampers on their 205's?

weava - it's looking like it's going to be a 205
Sold my Scooby last November due to a job change and really miss the fun factor.
Don't want to spend that much and really keen on a smaller car and the 205 will fit nicely into the corner of the drive/park area of the house.
Seen a gti near where I live for £800 (pity it's in white!) - so might go along to have a look.
Just need to find a garage that will do the conversion for me.
Richard.

mine, with the standard 8v lump plus roll cage & safety kit weighs in at 770kg.
I havent replaced any panels or bought anything thats lighter than standard - you can loose 200kg just by unbolting everything from the inside - rear seats, plastic, door cards etc. Ditch the electric windows, central locking, rear wiper and remove one thousand miles of wiring for the above. Rip out the heater and the associated water hosing (blank off the holes ) and take an angle grinder to the inside of the boot & bonnets.

Looks like you're pretty sold on the Pug/Mi16 route (I can't blame you!) but I have a Citroen ZX volcane for sale on these very pages:

This could probably have the Mi16 conversion too, and I can vouch for it's liftoff oversteer. Obviously it'll be a bit heavier, but you might want to consider.
Cheers
