"DAF Variomatic"
So why are they so bad? I guess you've driven loads...
I rallied a Daf 66 Marathon in the late '70s. 1148cc and 0-60 in under 7 secs. Superb handling (like all Daf 66s), reliable and huge fun.
Cheers

It may have been a 66 ( I hated the thing so just used to drive it head down to avoid the humiliation) I only remember it being called "variomatic" and having a weird CVT which gave it the speed of a 2CV running on 1 cylinder

errr I think maybe your taking this a bit too seriously...worse car we ever had was the DAF it looked like the little **** box on the website- I dont care whether its Volvo (ours was DAF) or not -its the same thing and its sh1te.

"and its sh1te"
Just your opinion and the opinion of someone who:
A) Can't remember what model is "sh1te"
B) Can't identify the car from a Photograph
I'm getting bored now, so I'll stop. Just get it right next time eh?
Cheers

got it right the first time when I named the DAF Variomatic as the worst bag of sh1te I could think of. Your welcome to your opinion- mine is that the DAF was the worst car I could think of or have ever driven.

"DAF Variomatic" is a transmission system, not a model of car... It's a bit like saying, "Subaru 4WD" - yes, but which model???!!!
I'm chilled SB. Not going to comment anymore on this. Have a good evening. I know I will!![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

You're all too young to remember the real crap
My first car was a Ford Popular, not with me it wasn't. Side valve engine, beam axle, 3 speed box, fell over on corners.
My second was the original Vauxhall Victor, the one before the FB, presumably called the FA. Mine was a lightened version due to the rust.

The worst car I have ever driven is a Fiat Seicento
Yes it is quite new compared to the rest of the cars listed here but it was bloody awful. I had it for 2 days as a loan car and I almost crashed about 20 minutes as:
1. The brakes were crap. I mean crap, using my shoes would have been better than the brakes
2. The handling was equally crap. I went around a corner at under 10mph and the car rolled so much I moved from the driver's seat and was very close to sitting on the passenger seat. The only think that stopped me was the kiddies plastic moulded gear stick stuck between my legs![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
3. The seat belt, no matter now had or fast I pulled it, it allowed more and more slack. Thank god I never had to use it
4. The colour, it was a sickly green/yellow that was repulsive
5. The dashboard and the interior
6. The driving position. It was so high and felt time I was sitting on a pile of yellow pages
7. The fact that the hire car company rep laughed as I drove away![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
I saw them available to buy new for under £4000!!!

Worst "modern" car I've driven is probably the Daewoo Espero. Fookin' scary. Strangely quick in a straight line, but with a high dashboard and a bean bag for a seat means you can't see where you're going and the bloody thing understeers with only 1 degree of steering input at 10mph.
I had one as a pool car when my first company ca was in for a service. My car at the time was a 1.4 Escort and I begged for it back which shows exactly how bad the Espero was.
Apparently they were based on the Mk2 Cavalier. I don't know what they did to it, but it's like they through all the "good" bits of the Cavalier away and replaced them with inferior bits. Frightening.

Worst car in my experience was the Fiat Panda - a biscuit tin with pram wheels and a hairdryer for an engine. I had a one-year old model as a courtesy car while my Pug was having the head skimmed and I've never come across a bigger pile of badly built sh!te in all my life. It's a good job they're all made out of 22swg steel cos I spent more time pushing the f**king thing than driving it.

Rover 3500 SD1. Went OK, but wouldn't stop, didn't handle, the seats used to collapse of their own accord, gearboxes would self destruct, and as for rust?
OK so we used them as Police Motorway cars, but it put me off ever buying one for my own use!

I can't beleive NotoriousRev beat me to the Daewoo. What a pile of utter crap. It was based ona Vauxhall Cavalier. I dronve a crappy rustly y reg cav and it was better than the Daewoo. i've never driven such a terrifiying car in my life. Feeble 1500 engine massviely overwhelming the feeble chasis that must have been designed by a 3 year old who only had some plasticine as the suspensine is so soft that you honestly get sea sick, its like being in a boat.
When you broke hard the car would bob up and down for several seconds afterwards. The steering was obviouly made from a series of eleastic bands and is only surpassed for lack of feel by the Subaru Justy.
Considering the relative newness of the car it is an absolute disgrace to the human race.
Oh and I cannot agree with the Fiat Strada. If you've ever driven a Fiat Strada Abarth you'll never work out what the fuss about a 205GTi is about as the Strada was in the next league above. I had two and they were awesome ! Drove the 205Gti afterwards and felt totally underhwhelmed.

The Strada inclusion was for everything except the Abarth- the list is now edited to reflect this- I always wanted one but was stuck driving Mothers DAF (p I rang her up and she says she can't remember exactly what model it was either!). We also had some Yugo's absolutley terrible cars I should have included on the list. I can't remember the exact models-so Toonman don't be posting and saying you used to rally one and that you want to know exactly which model I think is so crap, etc etc.
