I play occasionally with a group of teachers, kick off at about 3pm on a Friday, we usually take ages as most of the time they're gassing about how they work so hard, long hours etc....(remember this is at 3pm on a Friday).

Always dress properly as it's less hassle (once nearly refused play for wearing a short sleeved Rugby shirt) and always courtious, always let people play through, help with lost ***** etc....

But there's always some uppity tosspot with nowt better to do, who seems to think it's his civic duty to comment on speed/style of play, bad shots or basically anything that lets us lesser mortals know that but for the grace of god, scumbags like us would be kicked out of THEIR club without a seconds thought.

Saying that, I've joined up with other singles who've turned out to be alright.

It takes all sorts I suppose, just don't let them spoil your day, you've got a set of clubs and some ***** to do that for you.

Our club 2 ball's are encouraged to play through (or faster players ie 1 group with a handicap of between 1 and 5 very good!!!!) a 4 ball during the weekdays

Weekends 4 ***** have priority though down to discretion to allow another 4 ball to play through.

Not sure handicap makes too much of a difference in speed....most of the very low single figure golfers I know take bloody ages over every shot (note how all the pros average about a 5 hour round).

Still, at least they dont do the ball searching that the rest of us mortals have to !!

The spikes bit, I can live with that. But the dress code, FFS, come on, I would have thought (not played much golf) that wearing nice relaxed clothes would help your game, as you'd not feel stuffy and would be relaxed.

This is one of the things that puts me off golf, you mention you play and people assume that you're a stuck up pillock.

Best round of golf I ever had was in Bath, at the public pitch and put course. On a nice hill, and a pub at the bottom. Much more pleasant, much more fun. Plus we took the pish out of some dicks who were taking it far to seriously

Total joke.

Im very glad i play my golf up in Scotland because it appears there is a more relaxed attitude here.

It gets to the point that you think they might not even let Tiger Woods play because he is black

I got warned as my mate hit a drive that rolled up to some ladies feet - I mean at about 2mph. Never touched her - The Club secetary came out and gave him a telling off for not shouting fore, we apologised and he threatend to has us expelled!! We told him and his Club where to go!! He was most upset - lot of foul and abusive language was directed toward him, **** We were only 14 or 15. I agree with the dress code as it keeps people that are not really commited to playing OFF the course. I go on - play 18 holes - and leave. 3-3 1/2 hours. Great unless you are behind a bunch of clowns that dont know the rules and don't let you play through! One round last year took 6 hours!!! The guys in front couldnt hit a barn door with a spade but still took 5 mins for each putt?! All the had to do was let us play though - instead I spent most of my time sitting on my a$$ waiting to hit a shot. I hate snobbery and very few clubs don't have it - my club is good thank god. They are good cr@ck and anyone can get on (some escape the dress code). The other club near me look you up and down and give you a cross examination before your allowed to speak to them!! a$$HOLES

ot much to ask for to play with a collar and spikes. The spikes may even improve your game
Spikes are banned at my club -- you have to use those 'pimples'

BTW I've been hit by golf ***** twice -- once in the thigh (not too bad) and once in the shin, about fifty yards into the start of a 250 yard drive... I'm surprised I didn't break my leg to be honest

Edit: I agree with Carlos about slow play. TBH 3-3.5 hours is about the limit of my interest anyway, so after that my game goes to pieces. 4-4.5 hours is toooooooo long for a round
