Yep... buying cars = burning money. Life...

I just traded my MY01 Reg. Jan 2001(42k miles on the clock) for £11.6k against a Seat Ibiza tdi130. Think I was lucky to get that. All it needs is some work on the suspension. Great little car. Probably look at another Scooby in a couple of years time. Though be 2nd hand this time.

It isn't just Scoobies that are suffering with residuals, all makes are suffering,even high value supercars. Owners of the TVR Tuscans (Rocket ship in straight lines, pray round corners)are losing mega bucks. Lost 15k on a 12 month old model with 4k on the clock. Now got a 12 month old SLK 32 AMG Merc, paid 48K brand new, 12 months old 4.5k on the clock current trade in price against a new SL 55 AMG (provided I can get one) 30k Thats a 33% loss in value. When the car is delivered (silly waiting list for dealer supplied cars) the value will drop even more.

Going back to earlier comments regarding John Mathers at Crossroads in Tredington, he did me a superb trade in deal on my Legacy GT-B (not many scoobie dealers willing to trade those) he knows traders that will pay good money to take them off him, but the service He and his team provides is second to none, they all love scoobies with a passion, and will go the extra mile to satisfy the genuine customer.

With a MY99 and 38k on the clock I'm not sure what to do - maybe get a part ex for 12k against a new 03 wrx (16k?) - thats only 4k for the upgrade - sounds good, but would like to get the STi as I want something notably faster than the MY99...decisions, decisions...

Yup - I second logiclee - I phoned a dealer after a trade in price of my 99MY 5Dr Turbo - £8k - possible push to £8.5 if really pushed.

Thats over a grand **BELOW** book price!!!!!

I haven't personally been offered 12k, but someone with an identical car to me did get offered 12k (as posted on this BBS). But, I didn't realise that from a main dealer, they'll charge you the RRP for a new car, as opposed to import prices and an importer will give you peanuts in px. In other words, I think I'll stick to my '99 'til it kicks the bucket (the only way to not feel hit by depreciation!)

That's the thing though, I want to spend £8k-ish on a MY99/00 wagon, but I can seem to find anything!!

I was chatting to a dealer before Christmas, and he was saying give it 6 months (june) and bugeyes would be at the £10-12k mark!!!

I think a lot of the problem is everyone jumping out of perfectly good cars ie STI7s with next to no miles on - just so they can be the first into the latest and greatest look at me STI8. And then they expect to get some really good trade in from a dealer?

Live in the real world. The dealers now swamped with STI7s because eveyone wants to trade them in for an 8. As other people have said, supply and demand.........lots of STI7s hittting the market = lots of supply, little demand, low prices hence a crappy trade in price. Its simple economics.

Other things not helping of course are the huge number of cars coming accross every day from Japan. These are certainly pulling UK prices down, and the Euro imports dont help too.

I would say stick with your car for a bit longer, unless your wallet is really that big or your winky really that small.

Nov 02 £10K p/x off an new bugeye @ £18,995 , declined

Mar 03 £8K p/x off sti8 ppp

ended up getting £9K after negotioations!

so i would say some people above are having the p*ss taken out of them!

I went away feeling happy i had lost £3K a year, any more no way!

Mate of mine just sold his year old Boxster S for £29k. He paid £44k.

The car listed in CAP at £33/34k trade, but this time of year, nobody is interested.

If you keep a car for a year you will generally lose 30%, unless it's a Ford of course.

If you have been offered £12k for your MY99 I would ****** their hand off. Looking at the prices in this thread I would have thought between £8k and £9K part ex. If your looking at £16k for a 03 WRX thats going to be importer or supermarket where you'll be lucky to get much more than auction price for the scoob.

Mate has a Focus 2.0ESP with loads of options, MY01 2 year old 18000 miles £16k new list with options and was offered £5k against a Leon Cupra at Motorpoint.
