I stopped drinking tap water 17 years ago. I have had various different water filtering systems..... Brita....!! Joke. My ex is a senior Goverment scientific officer. She is also german (Explains!!) they did a private test and found that after only 14 litres..it started to break down and pass all sort of stuff through the filter..............
I Find the cheaper bottled water is a pure ripoff... I can taste the fact that its just filtered water. At least with real Mineral water you loose that horrid taste.
There is a big difference between "Spring" and "Mineral " water in the legal sense.
I'm into "Hayat".. very nice and its not expensive.
Sure tap water is safe but god does it taste bad.
If I had the money ..which one of my clients has!! I showed them a system called "Crystal water" it uses about 3-4 different filtering systems. Hotels and large restaurants use it... It produces the finest water I have ever tasted. It costs £££££!!

Is it worth buying one over the other? or is it a preference thing?

KrankyD - yer right - Pellegrino is the only one worth drinking, doesn't taste like water.
It contains among other things:
chloride
silica residue
bromide
lithium
&
Strontium - double .eek:

When we were in Kent, the water was disgusting. You could literally see the lumps of chalk floating in it as it came out of the tap!
Since we moved up to Scotland, we've been drinking sh*tloads of tap water - just because it tastes lovely. It's like having Evian on tap.
What I don't understand, though, is when you see local Scottish people in the supermarket buying bottles of Strathmore mineral water. Why?!?!
I think a lot of people around here should try living in the SE for a few weeks, then they'd realise quite how lucky they are with the quality of their water....

MarkO, yes scottish water is much, much better than the nasty hard stuff you get down south, but, for us lucky Scots that have had it all our lives its not as good as it is to you.
So we buy mineral water
Now, having said that, all, and I mean all of the Scottish sourced mineral waters are way better than the Evians and Volvics of this world.
Strathmore, Highland Spring, Strathglen, (all the Supermarkets up here sell own brand but Scottish sourced mineral water)
D
(Who is happy with own brand water, as long as its Scottish)
LOL...there's something else we do better up here

Absolutely D, I forgot that we have better water than horrible lot down south
The best water is found at 1000ft from a mountain side burn on a sunny day though
People are trying to be trendy maybe? I still believe people buy big labels to look trendy. It's unlikely that they would know everything about water that's been discussed in this topic. But now we all knpow better & can tell the snobs what to buy

Well my Scottish tap water never used to taste too bad until they put some multi millions pound water plant in - im not sure what they put in it but its revolting - even when very cold!! Its tastes of chlorine or something! Maybe they are getting it from the local swimming baths That would explane the yellow colour!

Buy it from Aldi - cheap as chips. Our cats drink it, and love it (when they are not slurping from the taps in the bath and sink).
A vet told us that the reason the cats wont drink much tap water is that its full of chemicals, thats why they drink puddles.

I drink evian, and lots of it...
The nicest water I've ever drunk was, as mentioned above, gushing from the side of a mountain in the highlands at about 1500ft. It tasted colder than ice and was so pure, the tap water wasn't bad up there either. Got a shock when I moved to the south of England and had to put up with this chalky cr@p! Starting to get used to it after 10 years though.

.... you lucky English peeps; put lots of empty containers in your WRX, drive the twisties in Derbyshire to Buxton and go across the road from the council offices and place said containers under the tap in the wall.
Get the most delicious Buxton water - free for the taking.
Boooootiful.
Drive home slowly with WRX laden with full water containers
