Butkus, i can confirm this worked for me, swapped a spoke (dodge one) with a tuff, sprayed green for some reason, after a low pressure tyre and bit of messed up crossup, had to persuade Mummy to clear a shelf, cos the big boys down the bottom of the road said it would work, IT DID, to my delight. !!

The freezer thing was a strange concept !! we thought that if you put Tuffs in a freezer it toughened them up!!! What were we thinking but whose a scientist at 10 years old & who cares we thought it worked & that was good enough for us! Parents had an old chest freezer in the garage which nearly always had somebody's wheels in there!!!

Cool subject, was talking about this in the office only a couple of weeks ago. Spent a whole afternoon trying to find old bmx pictures!
Really wanted a mongoose supergoose or a torker pro-x, but got a bleedin Silverfox for Xmas. S'pose you can't complain when you're only 12 and its for free !!
Can anyone find a picture of a silver fox by the way ?

We used to live in Littlehampton, and ride our bikes along the promenade in the summer. You weren't allowed to ride on there really, and my brother and I used to get chased away by the guy who drove the promenade train for the kids! One day, he pulled out a broom stick and stuck it through my brother's revolving Tuff wheels! It chipped the wheel and he fell off. I can't remember what happened after that!
I remember building ramps too. We'd build a ramp for take-off and then a smaller 'landing' ramp. As we got better, we'd move the landing ramp further and further away from the take off ramp. Nasty when you didn't quite make it!!

We used to have a skate park in Corringham Town centre(essex) that was bulldozed & replaced with a proper bmx race track with moguls banked curves table top & everything!!! Sadly that was demolished after a couple of years to make way for Squash courts!!!!!!
Then again the whole bmx scene seemed to vanish & replaced by mountain bikes.Thing is I never saw any mountain ranges round our way spring up to give us somewhere to ride!

Anyone got a pic of an SE racing quadangle. Parents bought me the ripper and said the quad was to expensive as if i remember rightly the frame was £70 more. What a spoilt bratt I was as all my mates had raliegh burners that weighed a tonne.

Lot of Grifter owners on here, I was a bit to young when they first came out so only got a Strika, Grifter was my dream machine but I eventually bought a second hand one and it wasnt a patch on the Strika, steering was unstable, it dropped out of gear and weight about a tonne !
Anybody remember putting the plastic bit on the mudguard onto the knobbly tyre and then getting bollocked for wrtecking a brand new bike !

LOL I had a Falcon Pro "Omega" It had a cool chromed frame. I never new too much about them but it turned out to be lighter than my mates Mongoose which upset him a lot We used to build ramps and actually made a forest BMX Track - that was hard work!

What a great thread this is, brings back so many good memories.
I had a PK ripper that i snapped, a skyway Ta and a Hutch hollywood. I used to race with a company called Curtis who were based in wiltshire, they used great frames. Had 2 years racing nationally and still have the tropies, under 14's nbmxa 4th in country in 1985, top memories of the wigan track with a pair of camels called king kong. A mate of the time ended up a world champion in 1994 in freestyle ramps, his name is jason davies . top memories. My shins are also dented for life cuz of Hutch beartraps

Any body remember ACS rims, the unbreakable ones, if you did a cross up bunnyhop the wheels would bend but spring back! Used to snap spokes for the fun of it
Also JDC monkey bars and redline 2 piece cranks, this thread is tops.
Tim march was uk champion who thought he was greg hill!(GHP)
He started his own business called TMR (tim march racing). Lasted all of 2 days i think

Alan Woods is putting on a BMX Old School national in England. Date is September 16th. Riders present will be Geth Shooter, Tim March, Andy Ruffel, Tony Holland and a lot more of the British old school riders. Prices for oldest bike, best uniform, etc. Should be fun.

I loved wigan track 'King Kong was a class jump and the skate park up at Livingston was good.
