I think what TC's getting at is that if (by any stretch of the imagination) you're causing an obstruction, either to traffic on the road or this lady's drive, then your car can be removed. Although tbh this is rarely done

However, if you're parked consideratly/sensibly on adopted highway and you vehicles is taxed, then there's nothing she can do

Btw - Traffic Management Departments are *always* right lol!

Can i join in here and can someone help me out.
I was parked at my gfs house, across the road once,(infront of a house but not blockin their driveway)and this was the 1st time ive pakred their because there wasnt ne room on my gfs side the road. any way in the morning i approached my car to find they had glued down a note saying they like somwhere to park when they get home from work,(they have 2 driveways which they dnt even use)so i was quite mad at them now but didnt want any more trouble so i left it at that and have just given them dirty looks since that.

so after that i have always been lucky to park on the side of the road where my gf lives.

but if your saying its legal to park there then i think i shall in future if theres no room on the side the road i want 2 be on.

could i have had them for vandalism too? took ages get the glue off.

If you can prove it; sounds like criminal damage?

It's really simple - as long as you're not causing an obstruction (parking in front of a dropped kerb/opposite a dropped kerb so people can't physically get out of thier drives or even your *own* dropped kerb is all classed as an obstruction), your car is taxed and there are no waiting restrictions you can park wherever you like

(private property incl. unadopted roads, obviously don't count )

Spa,

From what this thread as thrown up it would appear that you're quite within your rights to park there. It's just them thinking that they have the only right to park outside their own house - which they don't.

Although it will be a bit difficult to prove the sticky note thing.

Spa - I'd be annoyed But then you have to consider that you/your girlfriend have to live there...maybe a quiet word if it happens again or a note through the door explaining the Highway code?!

In the end of the day (just wanted to do a post with that phrase in it )there are too many cars and not enough space. I live in a street that's off a main road. It's impossible to park within 500 yards of my house at any time between 7am and 6pm, cos people park there to work in the shops, go to the tube station etc. I can either:

a) Be mildly annoyed when I get home after a twelve hour day that I've got to spend another five minutes finding somewhere to park and then walking from car - house.

b) Create a ramshackle 'parking space defender' out of wheelie bins, bit of road cone etc and spend 10 minutes every day lugging this in and out fo my front garden to protect *my space* outside *my* house.

c) Write loads of letters asking the local council to extend the CPZ as far as our street, in the sure knowledge that this will result in all my aquaintances getting parking tickets when they come over for dinner and end up getting too pissed to drive home.

d) double park outside my house, creating chaos and mayhem.

I have observed all these strategies in practice, and have chosen for myself *a* as being the best.

Charlie.

No way! No way! No way! Any football pundit worth his salt will tell you that in the end of the day it's *in* the end of the day, always has been, always will be.

Interesting thread

I guess you've got to see both sides of the situation.

Where I live, on certain nights of the week I can't park anywhere near my house because of all the parked cars of people visiting the area.

Frankly it irritates the $hit out of me, but to be fair, I don't own the road in front of my house, and so the other cars are just as entitled to park there as I am.

There's absolutely no excuse for people being abusive or issuing veiled threats, but if I were that lady, I guess I wouldn't be that pleased if someone was continually parking in front of my house, if it meant that I had to keep parking elsewhere.

Why not pay her a visit, say that you've checked it out with the authorities and have been told that you can park there just as legally as she can. However, in the interests of harmony and not wanting to cause a row, you'd be happy to park elsewhere yourself...

Reasonable enough?

Marc - Better bring your tow truck to make some space for your little runabout . Your Lupo would add a bit of quality to the street - most of the other cars are mini-cabbed nissan primeras.

Rich - where's the fun in being reasonable. Just blow up her house, car and immediate family.

Charlie.

had another idea- go the local auctions buy the cheapest runner with road tax/MOT possible- I saw a granada go for £30 in January and it had a quarter tank of petrol in it. Then go and park it right outside her house and leave it there!

edited to add if I come into a large quantity of cash residents of a certain street in Brighton beware because I will do this and fill your street with my old bangers!

You can park where you want. I used to Live in a place called Cruden Bay and I woke up one morning to find an Escort parked right across my driveway (such that there was no way I could get my car out). Got the Reg number and called the police. They basically told me to wait for the owner to turn up. They wouldn't tell me who the owner was (so I could go and ask him to ******* well move it) and they told me if I moved it and damaged it they would come looking for me - just had to wait - as they were too busy !

And I aint making this up

As I understand it, it is an offence to block anyone's access to the public highway, so if your car was on your drive and someone was preventing you from getting to the road, action should have been taken.

I'm not an expert on this in any way though, so I'll accept now that I could be wrong. I am sure there are several people on here able to confirm whether or not this is the case.

It was the "we can't tell you where they live line" that I couldn't ******* believe - I would have sorted it myself ie gone to his door and asked him to move the car - but no - our Police force tell me to wait for and unknown length of time for it to resolve itself !
