Unhappy

No NO NO NO!

If I (administrator) have dialed up the internet, I can switch to other users who can then acces the internet.

However, if a guest/limited user tries to access the internet without me FIRST dialling the connection from my account, they CANNOT access and get the original error that I previously posted.

Just when I thought it had been fixed!

If anyone (Fig ) knows how to iron out this flaw please let me know!

Cheers

Hello again

Did you change that setting to allow all users to use your username/password?

Also, in Internet Explorer (logged on as a different user, not connected to internet) go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab and ensure BT Broadband icon is there and it is set to always dial my default connection.

Good morning all

OK, status is now as follows:

Administrator can go on internet no problems

Limited account can now go on internet no problems (I had to click "always dial my default connection" in options on IE)

However, Guests CANNOT access internet. I know the reason why (I think) but not how to solve it . As a guest, when you click on the IE/BT broadband icon (when no other user has dialled a connectiom), it comes up "the page cannot be displayed" and cannot find server or DNS error." If you go to "tools", "internet options", "connections", the box that is ticked is "never dial a connection." The other options (including "always dial my default connection" which I want) are not selectable (they are grey).
Also, in the box titled "dial up and virtual private network settings" there is nothing. When logged on as a Limited account or Administrator in the box is written "BT Broadband (default)"

How do I change these settings? I presume you have to add the "BT Broadband (default)" but I dont know how to . What makes it worse is that by being a guest you dont have the ability to change these settings as you dont have the authority . You need to be an Administrator.

I appreciate any help

Thanks

That is standard for a guest account, they have very limited access. If it was me, I'd disable the guest account completely (Control Panel User Accounts) and add user accounts for anyone who might use the PC, or if you really want a miscellaneous account add a generic user ("Visitor") as a limited account.

Hello Fig

OK, I'll leave it as it is and open a "visitor" account like you suggest.

Thanks!!

Hi again Ernie

Control Panel > Network Connections. Highlight the connection if more than one, then right click it and select Properties. New window opens, select the Options Tab and ensure the 1st, 2nd and 4th options are ticked.
Click OK.

Now attempt to connect and you should get the prompt you are trying to find.

As for username and password, this is something that was either set up by you on registration or issued by BT Openworld. If you cannot remember what is was, you'll have to contact BTO (via someone elses PC : BT Openworld.com and look for support/lost password) or by telephone (number should be on their site too, expect it to be a premium rate call)

Hope this helps mate

Red face

Please help me on this one again

My PC died and had to be formatted. I cant get the multiple users access to the internet again . I know Im thick, but I cant remember how to get the option up under CONTROL PANEL> NETWORK CONNECTIONS> BT BROADBAND. It does not display the username and password, or the option to "Save this username and password for the following users", or the two radio buttons, "Me Only" and "Anyone who uses this computer". I cant get this to appear .

Please, please someone help a retard. I just cant remember how to get those options up. I know its something simple/silly, but I cant do it. Unfortunately, when Fig kindly helped me sort it last time it was over Scooby chat, so the answers were not recorded on a post on here. Fig, can you be a hero again and tell me again, or anyone else who knows the answer.

Also, how do I know what the password is? It stuck one in automatically when I reinstalled the Broadband cd.

I appreciate any help.
