ScoobyBall = An excuse for a superb party!!!!!

being part of a forum = something everyone has in common so therefore you have a basis for the start of a conversation... where you go from there is up to those partaking in the conversation!

Does that sum it up???

Buzz, TBH your responses were pretty fair, but in that you stood out from most of the other people. I'm afraid you got lumped in with the other chaps telling him to pi55 off and implying he was a w4nker etc..

Ian, yep, I do know you, have recommended your products many times on here (to the extent that I have been "moderated" for it) and have happily taken you out in the fatmobile on trackdays ( and treasure the vid). Having said all that, I was a bit surprised at your initial response as it seemed a bit out of character for you and probably set the tone for a lot of the following comments. I reacted as I saw it.

Perhaps if you had replied with "how good it was and this is why it these sort of things are fun", then he may have gained an understanding. I'm as happy as the next man to call someone to their face a w4nker if they deserve it, but I don't think the post demanded it TBH.

Anyway enough of all that, yes looking forward to June with trepidation and excitement. Can't wait, but I'm trying to get all my sleep in now and No I won't be trading in the P1 for a Diesel Previa ( well not yet anyway)

Electronic communication sucks...however FatBoy (can I call u that, I've met you a couple times at scoobysport) DS post can easily be read as insulting..
'real' friends - what are those and how does meeting them through a BBS preclude the people I know from that? I don't see how meeting them here is any different from meeting nerds at the bar at University (the only thing in common is the bricks and motor and a similar interest in whatever the course is)..or at work, hell I probably like less than 1% of people I've met at work!
'Seems a little sad.D'ont these people have any proper friends?'
How can that not be read as an insult? Again, what is a 'proper' friend?
'As for the photos of the people who attended I w'ont even go there for fear of being lynched.'
Again completely antagonistic.
Deep sounds like an ignorant moron looking to wind people up, much like many scoobynet members. I don't see how anyone can defend any of his comments. I don;t really care as it's pretty funny watching people get wound up, but still he deserves no less response than what he got.
Rgds
Chuck
PS another copy of his first post.

I really do not mean this as any offence to anybody.I just c'ant understand why anybody would want to go to a Ball where the common factor is the brand of car you own.I barely have enough time to spend with 'real' friends ie those I went to School/Uni/Work with and have known for years let alone those that just happen to own the same car as me.Seems a little sad.D'ont these people have any proper friends?
As for the photos of the people who attended I w'ont even go there for fear of being lynched.

Deep, your not alone in your thoughts.

Chuckster,

I don't see your point really. For instance, I absolutely distinguish "friends" I have had for all my 40 years from those I have made more recently through work, schools, or scoobynet. That is not to say that there are not some people from any of those categories whom I welcome as friends, but, like you, I feel that the percentages are pretty low.As for people on here having similarity with nerds at the college bar, careful you might be straying into DS territory - I assume that none of those nerds remain friends?

The comment re their appearances in the photos is perhaps unfortunate but is slightly less confrontational than pi55 off you w4nker how dare you question our lifestyle etc..

Maybe unlike yourself,(yes we did meet at Scoobysport a couple of times,as well as at Brands Hatch and at a scooby weekend meet near Westerham) I have had dealings with DS. He's not a "friend", but he didn't strike me in any way as an arrogant difficult bloke or a wind up merchant. Perhaps as a result, I read his post in the manner in which I remembered him, and stated that I thought that the responses were harsh in general. I still do.

The old test should always be applied IMHO - only say on a bbs what you would be prepared to say to someone's face.

After all that, I'm checking out of this one. I've made my point, like it or lump it. I don't see the point in going around in circles (unless it's on a race track)

Sorry to but on this. I wasn't at the Ball, I've never spoken/met anyone from SN. I find what DS to be ridiculous.

Whats wrong with wanting to meet and possibly make new friends? So what if the common factor is a Subaru? Those who go on to become friends will find they have much more in common than a car.

Your comment about the photos really shows your true colours! What an intelligent statement to make lmao!!

Fvcking Nobber!

From the photos, to me, it looked like a well attended, fun night. Well done to those who organised .

Didn't flame DS in my last post and won't in this but to say people you meat on Scoobynet can't be real friends is offensive. I have people I class as true friends from this bbs and I don't get to see them all that often, thats why events like the ball are great.

Also remember that scoobynet has been the bringing together of people whos relationships have been a lot deeper than friends. Wedding anyone.

I enjoyed it.
What brought the people together largely seems irrelevant after the event.
bloody good night.

ok ok I get the message. In my defence the comment about the photos was meant tongue in cheek. It was meant to be followed by a smilie that never came out(honest guv). The whole concept(Scoobyball) does seem a little bizarre to me,but hey thats just my opinion.Anyway plenty of guys have made it plain what they think about my comments(four pages and counting) and I still have'nt resorted to using the profanities they have used to me.
Have a nice evening.

'bizarre' sounds reasonable, it was a thought that occurred to me.
glad i went though.

maybe try it next year, as it was really good and an excuse to get away from the kids for the weekend (always looking for those sort of excuses)

OK, am going to add my 2 cents worth to this.

I can understand why some could consider the ball 'sad' as the principal factor is the type of car that is owned.

However, over the past 3 years of scooby ownership I have made many many friends via SN and going to meets. These are people who I hang out with, go for a beer with, etc...

Yes, I do not have many friends outside of SN, which, if you like, you can call sad.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but when you go out with your mates you are going out with people who share somewhat similar interests to yourself. So, for example, if you're into footy and you then organsise, lets say, a Liverpool fan ball, would that be considered sad too as it's just a bunch of people who are sad enough to follow a particular group of lads kicking a bit of leather about for 90 mins.

So, to me the ball is just a group of like minded people coming together for a laff, another example would be Muppet Camping and Muppet BBQ, both of which were a group of people, with SN as the binding factor, coming together for an almighty good time!

Rant mode over.

Deep Singh -- I don't "get" it either [Note: this is not a dig or a go at anyone, I just don't get it Sorry.]

I don't "get" meets either -- I'd rather talk to people who have completely different cars (if I'm talking about cars) rather than discuss the minutae of the differences between the v5 and v6 STi and the relative merits of Firestorm vs. Afterburner. I can do stuff like that without leaving the keyboard

Thing is, not all meets are like that, ok, ok, most are, BUT the one's I've been to, and love to go to are social meets, we meet, might have a quick chat about the cars, but because we all know each other and each others cars, there's no point in chatting about them, so we just enjoy each others company, bitch about people who don't get the scoobyball or meets and have a good time.

If you have never been to a meet then, no offence, you comments don't carry any weight, as you can't comment on what you don't know! Would be the same as me commenting on, let's say, peeps who go to a rally, to me it seems sad and silly, but I've never been, so it might be really cool (and I know a few people who have gone and it did sound like fun)

Each to his own and all that

Who said I'd never been to a meet? I went to a Bedford Autodrome 'aftershow party' thing in the pub, and to Trax 2002. Everybody was very pleasant, but it just wasn't my thing.

PS: I've never tried suicide, but I know I wouldn't like it

I dont go to any meets myself, but I can see why they suit people who all have the same interest, besides how many times have we been out to a bit of a do in which we knew nobody and still came out sozzled and smiling...

Isn't it sad when people go to the bother of starting a thread to say that a good old party is sad? I happened to be attending the wedding bash at the same hotel when I realised the Scooby party was next door. It's good to know there are decent, welcoming people who like a good party regardless of what they drive.

I'm ok mate. Have you changed your email? - got a couple of bounces (maybe just a typo). Anyhow, your old car's dead - head gaskets. Also needs heater matrix (probably due to water system being over pressurised). Broke down with a dead alternator as well a couple of months back. Been really busy so haven't got it all fixed in a rush but should send the car away next week for head gaskets. Might do driveshafts and other bits n bobs at the same time. How you been keeping?

Have to agree with you i'm afraid, each to their own, but it is a bit ****

One of the many reasons for us checking out of Subaru ownership after three years - the whole Impreza thing has got a bad (and frankly embarrassing) image these days

At leat the worst people will be able to say to me now is "but it's a Vauxhall"

Having said that, I have met some really great people through Impreza ownership (and, it has to be said, some complete turds, you all know which category you fall in to ).

Deep Singh:

I did not attend the Scoobyball as i was:

1. Too late
2. Out of fundage
3. In strife with Missus

I now wish i had gone. It seems to me as you enjoy a gathering with your friends to play online multiplayer games and a general binge. That is all Scoobyball is about a gathering of people to have a binge in fancy costumes (joke) lol

Why are we all here (scoobynet)? Cause there's nothing else to do? Think not. We all know that scoobynet is getting to be a huge online community and well the way i see it is if you get a chance every year to meet up with the people you talk to (albeit online in posts form) everyday, why not go? After all its just like meeting up with friends isn't it?

I was suprised at some of the posts on here. Some bit at the first chance, others camly gave views. That is not meant as an insult directly at people who posted here, just saying what i think. At the end of the day each to their own, so if you dont like Scoobyball why bother commenting as soo many people attended you were bound to get flamed at some point. I wish i had regular meets and things that go on around my area as its always nice to meet new people and make new friends as well a seeing other people cars and the mods they've done.

Just voicing my opinion!

It Appears that Deep Singh has echo`d my comments on the other "Scooby Ball" thread.
I wasnt being that offensive really just intrigued more than anything else
To me its a car.
Not worthy of going to "Meets" or "*****"
I do give fellow Subaru drivers a casual wave every now and again but thats about it.
I agree with Dave T-S again the whole Suabru concept has gone a little "Max Power" for me.
Still it cost loads less than the last cars I had and now it has decent lights and a good sound system serves a purpose.
Like I said each to their own.....just miht be a good idea to get out a little more
Sparco suit on and ready
PS a few fit birds I noticed in the picturs and some mingers....blokes aswell.
Not mentioning any names but a few must be hung like donkeys with faces like that

Baby Blue, it's ok mate - I thought you wanted me to move my car out of the way since I had completely blocked off 4 spaces in my haste to go film the wedded couple arriving! In the end I was too knackered to drop in - was on the go filming since 8 in the morning!

I see where Deep Singh is coming from, i thought the 'Scooby Ball' thing was abit strange! But thats just my opinion. I'm all for using Scoobynet to see other owners views, pics of cars etc etc. but all going to a Ball just because you own a Scooby?

I'm not trying to cause 'uproar' by what i've just written, just expressing my opinion like all of you have been!

Dunc.

You are all missing the point.

The people who went to the ball all got to know about the ball cos it was on Scoobynet. Some who drive Scoobs and some who don't. But I they've never had a Scoob then they wouldn't know about the event.

If it was a local football club doo then everybody would know the club, if it was a boating doo then it would be because they were from the same marina & and if it was a school reunion then it was they came from the school (where I should have spent more time and lernt to spoll).

It wasn't about sitting there all night talking cars, it was about a load of people who had never met before putting faces to user names and having a bloody good time.

Ian
