Dunc, thats a fair opinion fairly expressed...you didn't insult anyone!
Most of the 'do's' I go to are work related...I get dressed to the nines and hang out with a hundred other 'bankers' of which I know 20 by sight and like one or two. I go because it is the 'done thing' and it gives me an opportunity to learn about current thoughts on derivative pricing and customer interests. It's bloody boring though. Other ***** tend to be charity fund-raising events and are about as much fun.
Here was a chance to meet up with 20-ish people I know (and like) from previous meets/parties/*****
and others whom I know will have at least a couple similar interests (motorsport, scoob, drinking and dancing). It also gives me a chance to meet different people..which is always interesting (unless you are a Londoner - I commute every day in here and have met virtualy no-one on public transport).
Do people really think everyone there just sat around talking about Subaru all night? LOL
Some people enjoy the opportunity to dress formally once in a while and do something different on a Saturday night. I am one of them.
The sad thing about English society is that it encourages introverts and xenophobia. The good thing about scooby/golf/wineclub/etc meets is it gives people the opportunity to 'break the ice' and actualy interact. Life would be pretty lonely/boring if we only ever interacted with schoolchums/workmates.

I think people are missing a point here - I believe people who went to the ball didn't go there "because they own a Subaru". As mentioned somewhere on this growing thread, a lot of those who attended already knew or know of each other so what's wrong with arranging a party so friends can meet up - albeit done with the assistance of Scoobynet and welcoming people from this forum? I popped in briefly to the party (sneaking a break from filming the wedding bash next door) and it wasn't, as the skeptics among you imagine, "sad people talking about spoilers, fuelling maps and bhp" but rather just a good old fashioned bunch of people having a good time/laugh and consuming lots of drink!
I think the whole "reasons behind why have a ScoobyBall?" has been taken much too seriously. It was a good bash (from what I could tell as an objective witness - cos I was there but not actually attending) so why can't it just be left at that?

Right , i read the first few pages and then couldnt be arsed with the last two as i had to post what i was thinking. Not going to slag deep singh off but more congratulate the people of scoobynet.
I for one have been into cars for a long time and also been on bbs's for a while aswell making friends, talking to like minded enthusiasts and going to meets and shows which i have to say is a great thing because like people have said , you get to put faces to names, you get to actually see people and TALK and COMMUNICATE to them , you get to see who they really are , plus you get to see all the cars etc...
I was thinking when scoobyball was being organised if i could remember any other sort of club that had done this ... NO !... the best i could remember is my old drivers club organising track days and thats about it.
I think it is amazing that a BBS has such a close knit , mature community and someone has the ***** and discipline to organise such a great event. I for one welcome more and more social events , not because i am here on my own with no friends and i am despertaely seeking friends , but because it benefits people on the bbs , scooybnet and it brings people together on a common ground (scoobies)![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I hope i have but my point across in a non waffling manner. Even though i didnt go , i would like to say a big thanks to Salsa King for organising what looked like such a great event.![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Fair dos - everyone is entitled to their own opinions (was a free country last time checked). Personaly, I stand on neutral ground. I think a large part of the problem is the fact that the bash was called a "ScoobyBall". Like you say, a "ball" conjures up images of sixth form/uni reunion type event. From what I could see it was simply a "smart bash" (although some would say that's exactly what constitues a "ball"). As far as the potential of meeting someone one didn't get on with then that's just down to how one handles such situations. I was at the wedding next door and one of the guests was someone with whom I had disagreement but a good time was still had by all. At the end of the day, if people want to have a party (regardless of the reasons or formalility) then let them. Those who don't want to go wont go. Whether those people think it's sad or not shouldn't really be a big issue. It's analagous to owning a Scoob and being part of this community. A lot of people outside of this community think it's sad - but that's their own opinion and it doesn't stop us from being here. It's not a big deal.

Come on boys and girls, surely just having the choice of whether to go or not is down to persoanl preferences.
I like scoobys, and the odd meet, so I go occasionally.
I dont particularly like ***** so i prob wouldnt go.
But i didnt see anybody moaning about being forced to go against there will.
So surely those who arent interetsed would be better off reading up/commenting on something they are interested in, rather than asking why peeps went.
I don't go to www.trainspotting.com and start slagging them, because it is of no interest to me.
So... Deep sing, and whoever else, I would say take the strain off those struggling little brains and stick to something you can grasp, like lego!
See now youre even starting to drag me down to your level.

I love a pi55 up and will do most things to get to one, so will my missus. In this particular instance we had to get dressed up, so what?
I can just imagine the "anti do" brigade, spending all night looking over thier drinks thinking how embarrassed they are about thier attire or indeed pointing and laughing at the large bloke in a tux.
In all honesty, because everyone had the same style of clothing on, you tend to forget the dress code (Or was that down to the daft amount of alcohol i'd had
)
As for blaming the feel of the event on the Name "Scooby Ball"
C'mon ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Scooby Party anyone? or you could have really laughed at the obvious Scooby Doo. Scooby Get together? Scooby meet but at night in a hotel with a meal and a Disco until the small hrs anyone?
I had a far better time than I normally do when i go out in Nottingham. I wasn't surrounded by loonies who thought that it was thier god given right to be served next or people who thought that they were better than me because they had a more expensive watch on. As far as I was concerned I was enjoying myself with "mates".
Could have just stayed at home and wondered what the point was![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Off to post some more photo's now, just to show how much of a brilliant time i had![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Bloody hell..........Whats the fuss. they wanted it they paid for it they did it. Job done.
And why should anyone be afraid of saying "Who they are"??? I'm luke thats my name .I dont need to hide. If I attended with my wife and someone started having a go at me for my posts . I think the first peolpe to say something would be the others at the table... I have had some ding dongs with loads on here... But why would or should I not like them and want to bring the subject up at a dinner. It would be bad manners. I would if i could help anyone on scoobynet if needed. (Except SimonZZR cos he is a bad man)
Anyway i would tell evryone i was Astraboy,,then they would be too sacred of starting anything.......
But I still stand by my point. There are some well ugly blokes here on Scoobynet.

Oh yeah, Astraboy is just terrifying. LOL. I've met him, he's a sweetie, really.
It was worth me going to the ball just for the reaction of a couple of people when we were introduced. One person, on hearing my username said "oh god!" and stepped back!!

"right ugly blokes" according to some of the comments from male's who've posted on here.
That's funny, unless they're deformed I can't really tell what makes one bloke good looking from the next. But then again I'm just a normal heterosexual male so what would I know
! Plus I'm not that far up my own a$$ to comment on someone being ugly from a photograph.
Another strange thing...these 'ugly blokes' seemed to bring along quite a few foxy looking ladies to the Ball.

I do wonder how some people manage life. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Not going to an event because someone may be there who they argued with once. LMAO![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I'm in charge of a load of blokes who work in an all male environment and deal with sub contractors and suppliers, some mornings we may end up screaming at one another or someone may have the pi55 taken out of them relentlesly for something they have done. Tomorrow is is a different day and we are all mature enough to put things behind us.
All this political correctness / office politeness / grudge bearing stuff is not part of being a mature adult, IMO.
I had a 4 page slanging match with scooby boy in drivetrain, if I met him I'd shake his hand for putting up a good fight, same goes for a few more.
Finaly even if I'm one of the ugly blokes
I had a good night out.

Scooby Ball, missed it WILL DEFO DO NEXT YEAR![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I love cars and goin to rally's to watch them, i also have loads of time for peeps who want to talk about them. if a kid on the street comes up and say's 'Hey mister nice car, how fast does it go?' i will stop and chat.
personally i think im very lucky to drive a car that is based on the Motor Sport version. if i just wanted a car for goin from A to B i would have bought a Fiesta Diesel.
as for saying its sad to go to a meet HELLO!!!
Thousands if not millions of people do this every week and yes they do make new friends. (Football Matches etc etc)
