My point being, since I'm classified as `fat`, can I call someone else `fat`?
>>but using it against someone and intending it to be an insult is not on.
OK then, when ever I use the word `fat` from now on, I'm not using it as an insult, only as a description![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

look in the dictionary...
fat - plump or obese
Now you will want us to call a spade an earth inverting horticultural implement.
not being allowed to call fat people fat is the sort of thing that leads to real fatism. Some of you seem to be fat people in denial. Maybe a session at fat people anon would help. I can give you the address

>>Maybe women find the word "fat" more insulting than men do..
You might have a point there. Me and my mates are always calling everyone fat ******* and everything else. Mabey it's more of a bloke thing? probally why we can't understand why women get upset when we speak in jest...
I know what I can do - I'll call my GF a fat ***** and wait to see her reaction![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

I am probably a bit over weight and people call me fat but frankly I am not that bothered what people think, I actually think skinny people can look quite unhealthy
To my knowledge I don't smell but I am not grossly overweight, I describe my belly as 'my profile'

As we're on the subject of fat and over-eating. It has been shown that its not the quantity you eat that can cause the problem, its the basic food type. If the fatties cut out the carbohydrates, they would find they can eat as much as they like and still stay thin. The problem is that most overweight people are addicted to carbohydrates not just 'food' in general.

I drink a bottle of wine a day that's why I am a little lardy
I am not that bothered about being trim. My wife is happy as I am and that's good enough for me
It's amazing the amount of intolerance this out there, just live and let live is my motto

It is true that if the bodys intake of carbohydrate was severely reduced then the stores of glucose from carbohydrate (2 days worth is stored at any one time) would soon run out and the body would turn to a different enery source for enery (i.e. fat), but simply living on protein alone is very unhealthy. Your body wouldn't simply continue loosing weight....and you would end up very ill.
You would be surprised what contains massive amounts of cabohydrate.....tomatoes, beetroot, carrot....and many other low fat products commonly associated with conventional diets.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to lose weight.

I'm fat, really really fat, in fact I'm so heavy most people won't believe it when I tell them how heavy I am, if they have met or know me.
Vinyl Junkie you can call me fat by all means when your are describing me, but don't aim it towards me as a not even thinly veiled insult.
Describing someone as being fat is not an insult per se, calling someone fat is, the tone you are trying to use is obviously insulting, and meant to cause offence. Friends may and often do call me a fat bast*rd amongst other jibes, but they are my friends and they do it in jest, not as a direct insult, and I don't mind it.
Therefore in the spirit of your original post and please accept my apologies for this moderators but you and anyone following your lead is an ignorant ****.
Now you may take offence at being called a ****, and I may be unfair in applying that label to you, but you and others who share your opinion are most certainly ignorant......

Too many pizza's, pasta, burgers, fish and chips, crisps, choccy etc etc etc. My diet is diabolical, and I take little or no exercise, therefore I am massively overweight. I don't look for sympathy or expect any other consideration, my size is purely down to me.
As to whether I'm happy, that's a long one. With my physical size and lack of fitness, no certainly not, who would be. But would I be happier being slim and eating the correct food, taking regular exercise, compared to how I choose to be now, remember I have chosen to let myself go like this, that's the debate. I'm not going to get into this debate on this board, but so far I haven't changed my way, and I'm still smiling.
I sometimes get depressed at my size, but its the penalty I have to pay to carry on eating all the foods I enjoy, when I want to. At the moment I am happy to carry on, but there will be a day when I decide that I should alter my diet and take exercise, probably very soon, as its been occupying my thoughts more often as of late, just not now.
Wierd thing was, I gave up smoking just like that, one day got bored and quit after 11 years smoking, I haven't got bored with my poor diet yet.........

Nice one Reffro, very honest. Whilst i guess i do have to respect the "medical reasons" fraternity, i beleive that most overwieght people do have "issues" with food, at the end of the day. Modern day Western society, with it's profusion of desk-based jobs, the substitution of cars for even the shortest walks and so on have not helped one bit.
My only advice, since it's been covered to death over recent months, is that if you *do* decide to reduce your weight, make it a lifestyle change. Any "diet" should be viewed with caution, they almost invariably don't work in the long run.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'll not be following a diet, Weight watchers or anything like that, just adjusting my intake to include more fresh veg and fruit, cut out the daily intake if crisps, choccy, full sugar fizzy drinks etc, and take daily cardiovascular exercise, rowing machine seems to be the favourite at the moment.
Its not rocket science at the end of the day, just I'm still more than happy to fill my face as and when I like, and I'm not going to apologise for that, as you can see I know and accept the risks and consequences.
But I will not, and should not have to accept being insulted to my face, or via the anonimity of an internet forum. Its not big and its not hard, it certainly doesn't impress anyone of consequence, its just shows the basic lack of manners and highlights the ignorance of the people doing that. As for it getting boring now, Gussie you are right, it is boring to see insults traded on here by the minority of users of this board.
By all means call a spade a spade, I certainly do, I am fat its a FACT!!! But don't try to kid anyone else that calling me fat to my face or in this forum is anything but an insult....

Bizarre though, isn't it, as to what we've been conditioned into accepting what is an insult, and what isn't.
For instance, it's generally accepted that it's "more desirable" to be tall rather than short. Therefore calling someone "shorty" is viewed as an insult, whereas someone coming up to me and calling me "tallie" (or whatever) is taken in a totally different way.
I guess it's a symptom of the way we've all been conditioned into thinking a certain set of attributes to be "ideals". Weird. But i'll stop waffling now, i'm really just thinking aloud.

This was all discussed on another board I use and one bloke put it very well I thought.....
"Mate why fight it...?? you already think you're on your way to having a heart attack.. be honest with yourself are you actually going to make more than a two week effort to get healthy??
or are you going to be like everyone else you'll keep it up for two weeks and then break and the spend the rest of your time beating yourself up over it... why torture yourself when you can just accept it and continue living it up... heart attacks are pretty sudden and without any warning, you'll be unconcious in under 10 seconds.. so the sum total of what goes through your head would be..
'arggh.. that hurts..'
'****, i'm having a heart attack'
'i don't want to die cos i never got to..' nurrrrrrrrrr [flat lined]
In return you'll have had 55 years of living it up... eating what the **** you wanted and never ever missing an episode of coronation street...
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
and i'm not being morbid.. just kinda playing Mr.Reality...
"
Then the more sensible advice.......
"I was encouraging you by pointing out the reality.. I was being cruel to be kind... i don't want you to go down the same road as everyone else who makes a short empty gesture towards getting healthly but never stick to it and then 30 years down the line have a heart attack... cos its not about getting healthy its about being healthy.
People say what you did earlier and then try to 'get healthy' by putting impossible restraints on themselves... i'm never going to eat fast good again, i'm going to go to the gym loads... they don't stick to them and then revert back to their old ways.
Being healthly and staving off a heart attack is about subtle lifestyle changes not about life changing activities/diets/routines that are so extreme from your previous lifestyle that it would take the ethos of a monk to maintain. You need to be realistic... I am going to eat fast food and i am going to skip gym sessions to watch the football/go for a meal/ go out with my friends... but they will be the exceptions not the norm.
You decide 'I'm want to make a concerted effort to learn about nutrion and become aware of what i'm eating'... I want to get a regular but realistic routine in my life where i exercise (golf once a week and maybe a session down the gym). But the most important thing is that you decideI want to be honest with myself. By this i mean setting realistic goals, not pipe dreams, things that you honestly 100% believe you can stick to.
The overall picture is that the world is made up of 90% 'gonnas' type people and 10% 'doing' type people... those who say i'm gonna do this and i'm gonna do that.. and those that say i am doing this. Being a 'gonna' where your health is concerned is a risk you decide to take. But like I said when you decide to become one of the 'doing' people you have to make what you're doing realistic otherwise you'll just become another one of the 'gonna' losers that this world is made up of.
there.. you got some fooking encouragment... ya fat kunt.

Line from a comedy show.
I'm not fat, I've got a glanduar problem.I've a gland that makes me a greedy B*****d.
We all know from being kids the correct button to push to insult people, but you learn as you get older to use the terms sparingly or risk a smack in the mouth. As some have said, they've got mates that call them fat but they get away with it. Sod this PC world![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
If I want to insult some one, its for a reason and any adjective judged as being abusive can be used. Its a fact of life that someone will call you fat/skinny/short etc at some point what you do then is up to you. If I worried every time I was called a Scottish git etc then I would have to stay at home. If anyone here has been in the forces they'll know exactly what I mean.

Haven't read through all this so soz if someone's already mentioned this: If being fat is a medical condition then why is it mainly a Western problem? ![Confused](images/smilies/confused.gif)
Fookin 'ell how many "medically challenged" peeps live in the USA? Must be a plague which is spreading this direction!![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
IMO it's pure and simply too many pies and FA exercise!![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Yes I am overweight and I know exactly why!
