<flame suit still on>
I might agree to pay more tax for better services if it was still necessary *after* the government stopped wasting the money we already pay. Address the inefficiency and bureaucracy in services such as the NHS and the police, and most of all in the government itself, stop spending my taxes providing wide screen TVs and bread makers for "asylum seekers", stop shelling out a fortune in benefits for people who don't want to do anything but sponge, and spend the money on the services we all want.

Broadmoor is not a good example. I may not use the facilities directly, but they do benefit me.
I also use or benefit from many other services, which I am happy to pay for. I can see the argument that I should not have to pay for the education of other people's children, but I can also see how education benefits us all, so I'm willing to be open-minded on that one. However, I do think a lot of the money we pay in tax is wasted, and I don't see why that is acceptable.

Well its like this:
If you take the view that you dont want to pay taxes for other people to spend cos you dont use the service but are forced to pay them.
Isn't that like not paying insurance cos other people have accidents and not you.
As with other threads today I may have lost the plot amongst the drivel and name calling, but I thought it was a running theme not just from you TK but as a general thing

Bros are you seriously saying you cannot distinguish between someone who has been hit by a car and needs hospital treatment and someone who is a potential danger to society, (of which I am a part), and needs to be somewhere secure?
Please tell me you're not.

Daiscooby, I do drive though, so I need motor insurance in case I have an accident. Apart from anything else, if I were to injure someone else I would be unlikely to be able to cover the cost of their treatment.
Also, the law requires that I have motor insurance, and whilst that is the case, I will abide by the law.
I can't see a parallel between paying for car insurance and paying taxes.

Which also goes against what you've said previously.
I've said I don't think people who have not paid for a service should benefit from it. I have also said that I do not believe people should be forced to pay for the NHS and they should be free to make their own arrangements. How does accepting that the education system benefits me, (and the rest of society), and saying I am not 100% against contributing towards the cost, conflict with that?
