Mice, yeah you could just leave it, but as an employer myself it annoys me that we get put throuigh the mill even though we go out of our way to be supportive of staff. It's virtually impossible to dismiss someone 'fairly' in the prevailing climate, but other shoddy employers get away with it 'cos people can't be bothered to take it further.
just my 2p.

If I had someone working for who was daft enough to put on two coats, 3 tee shirts, two sweat shirts etc... and then pedal home they wouldn't be working for me for very long. I mean did he not have the sense to get a bag from some where, even if he was being ignored its not a hard task is it !!!!

Sorry, ProperCharlie, my previous comment was aimed at SpongeBobSquarePants...
So his son's been sacked...BFHD. He was there 3 weeks... There is no mention on here of his son's feelings about this...yes, he claims that there was poor supervision, lack of training...but what stopped him asking for it?
Did he speak to HR and raise his concerns??

Grovesy: thanks for that comment.
: He DID ask for a bag, was ignored, and escorted off the premises. If you've any kids, I hope yours aren't treated like this.
Mice: I KNOW he was only there 3 weeks, but does that give them the right to act in a shoddy way? He IS human, and DOES have feelings you know.

I'm aware he's human and has feelings, but tbh, after 3 weeks in a job and to be let go, he's either doing something VERY wrong, in which case perhaps a warning from management / meeting with him first would have been in the better option, or he is unsuited to the role in question.
Why did he not ask for the supervision and training?
I sincerely hope he finds a better, more rewarding job soon.

Squarebob....was he on agency?.Most unskilled staff, and you did say he was 16 and working in a food factory, are taken on through employment agencies and if thats the case nothing can be done.
Its a fact of life.Like Mice said, get on with it.
And as i said earlier, why isn't he at college if he's only 16.Leaving school and getting a dead end job in a food factory(if thats what it is),no future there i'm afraid.

Unfortunately, having only been there for 3 weeks, they do not legally need a reason to let him go. On reading your post, he is probably better off out of it. If he did manage to get his job back they would probably make his life a living nightmare.
He should take time to scrutinize the lead up to his dismissal and learn from it. If there was nothing to learn then he can hold his head high and thank his lucky stars he is no longer working there.
Factory life is, Im told, the most backstabbing environment to work in. He could go get himself a job he really wants to do as a trainee and be happy in his work.
Tell your Son, chin up - the world of employment is full of dissapointments that he just has to bear and use as experience. Perhaps he was so good his colleagues didnt like that so conspired against him. That is their loss and now, his gain for furture employment.
Kiss on the cheek from me,

PS: Getting even is not a solution... that makes you as bad as they. Although I can fully empathise with your predicament as I would feel the same for my children. You know full well the law would not be on your side if you chose to "get even" and all it would promote is vigilante feelings in your Sons future behaviour.
Give him a cuddle, if he lets you, or a man to man talk and give him his ego back in only the way a Dad can![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
