Weapon is back in holster!
For the time being until I can discuss this in great detail with Simon, it will stay as it is (as regards to all for sale posts being directed to the FOR SALE forum).

were logically would be your first point of call to buy something for sale?
For what it's worth.......
If I am buying something or wanting to buy something I would firstly check here to see if someone local has something to sell.
Bear in mind that sometimes someone is selling something you might not realise that you might want to buy, but when you see it on the Scottish forum you become interested, whereas if it was in For Sale you probably wouldn't bother your ****.
If I was selling something, I would far rather advertise it the Scottish forum, since it would literally disappear into the endless void of For Sale pages in a matter of minutes, and you would end up with timewasters (no offence to anybody) who aren't prepared to travel to or deal with anyone so far away.
And, I'd far rather buy a set of wheels(for example) of someone up here than someone down south, since it's less hastle, less cost, and I'm less likely to get shafted, and I can vouch for that!
Rant over.
BTW, Rover 214 SEi for sale, Nightfire red, half leather interior........

Hence why we are saying don't fix the wheel if it ain't broken.
#34
Is it really an issue that the items for sale need to be seperated (by area), or is it the fact that the FOR SALE forum is just so heavily used?
I think the issue can be summarised as follows ...
- We're very remote from the rest of the country so location of buyer / seller is a big deal for us.
- To the best of my knowledge, for sale / wanted posts in this forum do not bother any of the regular visitors / contributors.
- We like it the way it is and ask that you leave it and don't shift such posts.
Hope this helps.

Scoty,
If there are these kinds of threads in other forums that I have seen, it has always been the case to move them. The ones in Scotland I cannot comment on, but this was one of the main reasons why the guidelines have been drawn up, so both Community Member and Moderator understand what's "Hot" and what's "Not".
Regards,
Shaun.

Because personally, if I wanted something or bought something, it has never bothered me whether it was from down the road or the other end of the country.

Numptie,
"We're very remote from the rest of the country so location of buyer / seller is a big deal for us."
But is not having you own forum as regards to FOR SALE STUFF (or allowing you to post these threads), making you even more remote and possibly alienated from the rest of the community?
"To the best of my knowledge, for sale / wanted posts in this forum do not bother any of the regular visitors / contributors.
We really need to be uniform in our approach, so if your community area is allowed this, then the others (quite rightly so) will want the facility. If that happens everytime a community member wants to look at items for sale, they will have to search through several forums. IMHO this is not very helpful.

Shaun.

As far as alienation is concerned, I know that some of our regulars look at Scotland and don't look anywhere else on the board. That's fair enough - each to there own. Personally, I have a more cosmopolitan view of SN and the Subaru community in general.
It's up to the individual whether he / she wants to remain insular - the design of the BBS isn't going to influence that.

This business only seems to have come to light since the roaming mods appeared.
For me the key is; "if it ain't broke ..." which a few of us have said on this thread.
Hopefully, we'll be able to reach a good compromise.
BTW - Mrs Numptie is giving me a hard time to go and cook her dinner - I'll look in later. [/b]

Oh Dear, What a mess
I'm an insular user of this forum, I don't have any need to purchase Subaru related items as I don't have a Subaru, but I have never found the 'ForSale' posts in this community forum objectionable.
Pull it out Shaun (+ All the other Mods), how many punters in Cornwall, Kent, Manchester or Newcastle want to buy a clear indicator from someone in Aberdeen ?

What's the point in having the Scottish section at all then?
If we saw any other Impreza's out on the road, it should just get moved to Was it you, for example Scooby Dooby Blue's -Catalunya..... posting.
If we had a query about engine's or gearbox's, then it should be moved to Drivetrain, again as another example, Robins boost controller posting
And of course if anyone just wanted to talk about anything else, then it's as well just going into Non Scooby Realated, like glen4's Bruce platform posting.
I could go on and on.
(No offence meant to anyone mentioned)

JasonO,
"Pull it out".... what is meant by that comment?
Caz,
I am just asking questions to gain a clearer understanding of peoples views. The more I know/understand the more I am able to help.

Andy,
Because the area community forums were intended for area community specific information etc.
What we don't want is a SCOTLAND forum (as well as any other area), that is in itself self sufficient. In my eyes it goes against what the whole SN community is all about.
My current line of thought is that items for sale are not area driven...... but I am dicussing this specific issue with all that wish to, as I am aware that it is something that needs discussing.

Shaun.

Hopefully I am not insular but I only check "Scotland" section on Scoobynet. Even though I have an "Other Marques" car and am a "Biker" and probably a "Muppet" into the bargain the only section I have time to check is the "Scotland" one. The fact that it is at the bottom of the list is a pain as well as I am only on 56k and that takes long enough to download. It dosn't bother me what posts are in the Scotland section at all, as long as the title makes the contents of the thread obvious so that I know whether it might be of interest or not.

chrisyd,
I was a bit disappointed my ad was moved so quickly because posts
on the for sale section disappear in a very short space of time as
you so rightly point out. What surprised me was when checking out the Ireland section the amount of cars and items for sale that have been there for some time and not been moved. Perhaps their
moderators are less strict.
Cheers,
Gus M

On a 'similar'-ish situation - posting in the 'was it you?' yielded me zero results. However, when I see an Impreza out and about and post in the 'Scotland' forum, the results provided were much better.
I dont mind the for sale items, as Ive got my punto for sale - and its in that section on page 6 now - day and a bit!! What chance do you have other than the annoying 'bttt' twice a day.
As a balance, I understand that moderating all this mince is difficult in itself. A common ground needs to be found I think is the message I reading from people.

This forum would run the way it is now for months without moderation, and no legal action would be taken on Scoobynet in that time.
Surley a moderators dream and something for Simon to be proud of?

Hey peebs,
On this thead I suggest we take a wee step back for now eh
And give Shaun etc time 2 chew it over, then then can come back and let us know exactly what the lay of the land is ?
And in the meantime as Shaun has agreed, the posts won`t be moved until a resolution (satisfactory to all concerned parties) is found
We all know It is all 2 easy for us 2 "stick the boot in" & overstress the issue, resulting in every1 goin on the defenive, which leaves no time 2 address the problem. So what d we say to "keeping it in oor pants" for now before it gets outta hand and wait for Shaun etc 2 get back to us on this issue? And we carry on as before for now, all best of buds
Pete

Scoty,
In some ways you are correct, but in others (in my eyes) it is not the way I would think the community as a whole is steering towards. Take the "as a whole" part forward, as I don't think it is conducive to the community to have separate elements spawning off from the main.
I'm not suggesting for a minute that this forum is and should ever be classed as a (in all tense and purposes) separated arm of Scoobynet as regards to the way it interacts with the community, but you must understand that not having uniformity across the board can cause issues (even though I greatly appreciate that the previous workings proved to be a success from your eyes).
The idea of the guidelines was/is to benefit the community as a whole. Unfortunately we could never garantee that the guidelines would please everyone...... but as anything, we are always open to discussion.
Regards,
Shaun.

That's not my interpretation. Here are a couple of extracts from Shaun's various replies ...

I was happy to get this clarity (as per my interpretation) but not the answer ... but like I said, I'm not going to push it.

... but then again, I just started to re-read from the start and noticed this from Shaun.
Am I being thick ?

Numptie and everyone else, I do have my personal opinions on this, but as a moderator it would not really be correct for me to post them on this thread until I have discussed them with the other moderators, but anyone who has been posting here for a while will know what it is. There is now a very lively debate going on between the moderators and Shaun and Simon so hopefully we can thrash something out ASAP.
As Pete said can we all please take a step back and give us a little bit of time to think about it.

Well put Numptie, no one is banging fist's
I understand too that the for sale threads will continue to be moved from the Scottish forum.
Stuart, I know facts can help in a discussion, so here is one ... For sale threads have been in the Scotland forum since the BBS was created.
