...also, while I realise we have to respect the "group" decision for ALL forums (and it is Simon's BBS), it does seem that ALL the posts in this thread from non-moderators (and I respect that the moderators are only doing what they have beed advised to by the guidelines - no blame at all to them) that I can see are quite happy to see for sale entries in the Scotland forum, and no-one seems to object to them....

It would be a shame to see what previously worked well and is well liked to be changed for the worse to the detriment of the Scottish Scoobynet community!

Saying that, politcally, I was against devolution, but perhaps I shouldn't go there.....:-)

Indeed I do have my own personal views on this subject, but like Stuart, its not appropriate to mention them here. Going forward I sincerely hope that the community spirit of Scottish folk on Scoobynet is not diminished.

 

Like I said to Stuart, I don't see why not, but that's your prerogative - no bother.

 

the way i saw the For Sale items happening:

Live in scotland and want to sell something locally coz: cant be bothered with the hassle of posting big items; is a slower moving forum and people typically do buy locally first if they can; people locally look here lots and hardly ever in the for sale so it is putting candy in the shop window.

So, we want to sell locally... next... we post in Scotland forum.
What happens next?
1.
Someone sees the post and says.. yeah, i could do with new wheels (thats how i got my Gold P1s, and also how i sold my old wheels).
I have also sold my road bike through here, and bought centre caps for my wheels, and a downpipe, and a back box... all coz people posted in scotland about items for sale.
One of my m8s got a back box from a guy in dundee... same thing, posted in scotland and sold quickly.
Thats good community spirit - and encourages people to meet locally.
2.
Noone is interested in the said items for sale. So... they got and post in the for sale forum to try to sell it off.
So people do get to the for sale forum if it suits.

Thats how I see it.
It actively encourages the scotland (which is a big place geographically) community spirit. People even meet up and exchange items at knockhill... remembers getting PGs DP (which he never used) from Jools at KH, and getting the oil from Willie there too. Also remembers getting the wheel cleaner from John after his flight was delayed

Without selling things locally, i would not have met these said people (and others) as soon as i did.

So... I would think its good for scoobynet to keep the Scotland forum for sale items as is... gets people checking the scotland forum for more than just whats going on in scotland... and makes the community spirit grow.

The For Sale forum being fast moving is a separate problem.
It does need addressed - coz if the posted doesnt keep up the BTTT posts then the post gets lost. Also, theres only a certain number of posts available on 1 page - the headlines dont get seen and the potenial sale / buy doesnt happen.
The solution to that is for another day and Topic.
And that should technically happen in the Feature Request forum
Although i think a better result would happen in the general.
If the for sale forum was redone with allowing 2 posts ... one to the for sale and another as a pointer in another forum (e.g. scotland) then thats a good idea... but it wont happen right away, so best to leave as is.

 

Shaun - whilst I'm totally happy stepping back from this to allow matters to settle down and (hopefully) a balanced decision to be made I have to take issue with your earlier post - particularly this portion:

I think if you actually read my post again you'll realise that I refer to your description ie your poor attempt at an anology as "woefully inadequate"...not in fact yourself per se.

A personal attack was not what I had in mind...and not what I posted so you can decommission those shoulders - thanks.

Have you considered the bandwidth that could be saved by baning the use of BTTT posts in the For Sale forum ?

Mores the thing though, the introduction of localised (SouthWest, SouthEast, Midlands, etc.) For Sale forums would probably reduce the wasted bandwidth even further.

I have to agree with all that has been said here. when I tried selling my car on here, I kept getting e-mails from folk in London & Bournemouth asking about my car... That isn't really helpful, as the liklihood is that they are not going to travel the length of the country to buy it.

I def think the idea of sub sections in the for sale forum is a good idea as it would reduce the clutter, and certainly reduce the frequency of BTTT posts.
