It's not always as clear cut as MarkO suggest though is it?

What happens if it's someone you know, and they just disappear?

Can't really do much then can you.

And if you're owed by someone who's really really hit rock bottom and you don't REALLY need the cash, do you pursue it and make their life even worse?

Isn't a s black and white as just "X" owes me money - and naming and shaming does sweet FA to help IMO

But Craig have you not just also argued esentially *for* MarkO's point ? That the *instant* clamour for name and shame which tends to accompnay these posts is equally not the right thing - as these things are never black and white ?

In some cases it may be the last resort but whilst there is a dialogue between people (as there is here) it not appropriate.

Katana, nice try - but you're not supposed to name and shame yourself.

Bout time we had an faq on how to do things properly round here

Hehe I wasn't naming and shaming. All I said was I still owed him money as I've put a deposit on some ultra top secret stuff.

OK, name and shame time, the Scoobynet Webmaster, Mr Simon de Banke, took £15 off me about 2 years ago and promised to send me a Scoobynews CD - still not received anything to date

scoobynet or no scoobynet - what kind of w4nker would owe someone 500 quid for over a year?? If you cant afford the purchase, then dont pretend you can. I hate people who use other people as a form of credit.

I dont care what your circumstances are, you shouldnt have made the purchase in the first place if you couldnt afford to pay up after a sensible period of time. IMHO its the buyers responsibility to pay up - you shouldnt have to be called and chased by the seller.

Agreed -- if you can't afford to pay it (maybe a change in circumstances after it was delivered or something) then why not either return the item to the seller or sell it yourself to raise the money you owe?
