Hiya David and Andy,

First off, Andy thanks for taking the time to do the reasearch, just to pick your brains a bit more: You mentioned that the only differences are the turbo, ecu, grade of fuel and the addition of the centre on the UK cars. Can i ask you to expand?
1) Is the Turbo bigger or just different (uprated)
2) Is the mapping sooooo different?
3) Do you mean the addition of a centre cat on uk cars?
4) The wrx is (we think) mapped to optimise 100 ron fuel. The same then as optimax and octane boost ( ish )

I run optimax and octane boost, i have no centre cat (well none actually ) so by my reckoning i'm half way there, which brings me onto your good self David:

Because I have the smaller turbo, would hooking up a wrx ecu place unneccesary strain on it? I pressume then that If a bigger turbo is present in a WRX then fueling would need to be adjusted to cope with the longer lag times and subsequent higher, longer levels of boost? Hence the need to re-map or stick a bigger/better turbo in. Does anyone agree/disagree with me on this one?

Essentially then (Dependent on other views obviously ) I could get a stock uk turbo, decat it, run SUL and OB, stick a larger turbo in (Greater capacity) and a WRX ecu and i'd be good for 280bhp. Surely!!!

Mikey Thanks for your input sofar guys

1) The WRX turbo is bigger. The UK has the tiny TD04 turbo, but the WRX has a VF turbo in it, but I forget which one (VF24 or VF28 maybe? ) But I'm sure you can find this out yourself!!

2) The mapping won't be hugely different, just allowing for better fuel, and in turn run more advance!

3) The UK cars have a centre cat, where as the Japanese ones don't. I guess that's still a restriction, albeit a minor one.

4) Of course you could have your ecu mapped to run with Optimax and octane booster, which should in turn allow you to run a bit more advance.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you installed say a VF24 turbo, and then had say a Link ECU mapped for Optimax and octane booster, and you run with a de-cat centre and backbox, but retain the standard downpipe, you should be running the same sort of power as a standard WRX.

Forgot to mention, it might be worth looking at the difference in the gear ratios (if any) as that will affect acceleration times!

356bhp!! (from a UK car with standard block, injectors and fuel pump!) thanks for asking!

I think 300bhp would be very easy and I plan to prove this with relatively cost effective (read: cheap!!) manner and components, yet retaining the standard look of the car!!!

I think it can be done for less than £2000 (the same cost as a PPP, which *only* give you a minor increase!!)

We'll see!!

Mikey, you say forget the STI because it has stronger this and that but it is, I thought, only the STI that has 280 ps standard. A WRX has less ps/bhp.

I took my time, spoke to people and read up on the topic, and I have given you a list of the differences between the MY99/00 UK cars and the MY99/00 WRX's. (Basically turbo, ecu, grade of fuel and the addition of the centre on the UK cars!)

Obviously the STI 5/6 are a different kettle of fish!

As for the differences between UK MY97 and the WRX MY97, I'm afraid that's down to you to do the research!!
