Fantastic, so now we've got oil surge as well as fuel surge
Pass, don't know - its just something I heard! I think the oil problem is only a problem when going for it on track.

PSML at Katana and Sipie I can't believe the boat fuel surge cure is $25 - I bet you if you gave it a Subaru part number it would become $225

Question

What about a loose connection or break in the wires from the pump itself? Could it not be an intermitent electrical problem rather than the fuel running away from the pick up??

Maybe this has been checked but worth a look.

I used to have a mini that used to completely cut out when going round corners at fun speeds. It turned out to be a soleniod wire that was moving under cornering forces but from the outer casing on the cable it was undetectable.

Just a thought.

Hope you get it sorted before the next one!

Hey Kenny,

You can solve all your problems for a cost of just £25 .....

... stick £25 worth of extra fuel in your car

Kenny

I had a look at the boat fuel anti surge device and I think it is to prevent fuel spilling out of the fuel tank through the air vent when the boats rolls about. Must say I am not sure about that though.

I think you must have some unusual problem in your car which is causing this problem and was also the cause of your earlier spin to be fair. Maybe something strange has happened to the pick up in the fuel tank. The only positive cure is to have some kind of reservoir in the fuel system which will supply enough fuel while the fuel has uncovered the tank pick up. We used to use a "swirl pot" in the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system which both got rid of air in the system and supplied fuel in case of starvation from the normal supply during hard cornering on the track. This swirl pot was fitted in the low pressure fuel supply side and was fed by the low pressure fuel pump from the tank. The high pressure fuel injection pump took its supply from the swirl pot.

This is a Scooby failing of course but it seems unusually bad on your car.

Its beginning to look like getting a swirl pot might be the solution. I'll mention it to Colin Noble at the next service and see if he can think of some things to check before I go to this expense. I think I could live with it if the car bogged down every now and again like most people describe but its pretty darn dangerous when she can completely cut out at anything up to 1/4 of a tank

Strangely I've launched from lights when running on vapour with no hesitation or signs of a lack of fuel! And yet we say scoobys are good in the twisties..........only with a full tank it seems

Good idea Kenny, it might be an electrical fault as someone said earlier of course.

No fun worrying about it happening when you want to enjoy some of the better right handers though.

edited for rotten typing again
