Speaking of crap sales people - knwo someone who had their heart set on a BMW Z3 (takes all sorts... ) so went to the dealer to buy one. Wasn't really interested in how it drove, just how it looked. Had already done his research, picked colour, trim options etc. Went in said want one of them, negotiated as you do, then said he would like to pay switch, they just laughed..... and then said no.... what gives. Not being easily offended, he went to the back got the cash out and went back, put the cash on the table, and told them to bloody well get it on order...... Sales prat was a bit embarressed and rightly so.

just to recomend one good man and dealer, listers at worcester and grame, not so good are my local dealer robinsons in rochdale, had 3 cars off em in the last few years, couldnt get a test drive, couldnt get em to return ma calls even though his price was good bought my new onne from 150 miles away purely on good customer service.

fwiw, said dealer has the fleet contract with Lex for whole uk so maybe they get a bit complacent about showroom sales as it probably doesn't represent their mainstay. However there is no excuse for pre-judging people on appearance, though, to be honest, I think that I would make the effort to look the part if I was nearly as young and wanting a test drive.
I would imagine it would also help to ask more questions about finance, delivery times and prices rather than enthusing about the car - it could come accross the wrong way.
Finally, regarding test drives, It must be a fairly unpleasant prospect to have to be piloted by a complete stranger in an unfamiliar high performance car with the potential threat of dismissal by your boss if the punter stuffs it into a ditch - hence they would probably rather be giving test drives to staid looking types who ask about tax discs etc ;-)

No problems when you ask for a a test drive then Paul
I never had a problem with Monks Heath but somehow they just didn't cut it for me.
Mainlands' After Sales Manger Danny competes in an ex Prodrive Scoob and instructs for Shropshire Rally School so banter and enthusiasm come as standard
Sales team had a steep learning curve though. I was asked if they could put my car in the showroom as a focal point for the opening weekend.
Having politely drawn attention to the fact it was covered in Robinsons stickers. I had to explain they were a Rochdale based dealership before the blank expression cleared

I didn't do so bad at the TVR dealer that i bought my Scooby from.
I drove in, in my Clio 16v at the tender age of 23 and expressed an interest in their Scoob. I asked for a test drive and within 5 minutes i was up the road in it I'd been to one or two Scoob gararges and was completely ignored

Gav, go and see the boys at Mainland you wont be dissapointed, Monks heath motors are a joke, when i pulled up in my brand new MY01 to buy clear reflectors i asked about the STI7 they had,his words were 'its a very high performance car sir and not just anybody can drive it'.
His opinion changed when he bothered to look at what i was driving at which point i told him to p#ss off.
Thank god Mainland opened, Monks heath are Champagne drinkers with lemonade money.
Good ridance to them.

Jimmy, youre kidding right,Andrew was the one who told me and another scooby driver that the STI 7 was too powerfull for mere mortals.
He doesnt open his eyes to what you drive or wear.
2 easy rules in car sales to spot a genuine punter.
1. Do they wear a decent watch.
2. Are they wearing expensive shoes or trainers.
Simple really, but Monks heath are too used to being the only Subaru dealer in the Cheshire area with a captive clientel.
Long Live Mainland (Widnes Cheshire).

Well, I bought my MY00 Turbo from Monks Heath in June 2001 and received great service, very friendly, even if I was trading in a Honda for it ! I think the sales guy has left though (James I think his name was) but I'm sure the sales manager Andrew hasn't. Never used them for services though cos I don't live local, only visit my folks in Alderley occasionally and that never ties in with when it needs servicing.
I do know that a friend from Wilmslow I recommended to go there for a scooby wasn't treated so well and consequently bought a new BMW instead.
