YAWWWNNN

Hmmmm, you seem bored! Perhaps you'd prefer if we had arranged this showdown near a school in a built up 30mph limit as opposed to a designated and regulated 1/4m track

Matts car is white with the standard MKII VTS alloys painted white - no bodykits, etc. I think (based on the general opinion)I'll get beaten as well but I'm going to give it a blood good go Its all fun

I think you got a very good chance.

That car will **** all over you from a rolling start, but to be honest the 1/4 is all about launching.

Most light FWD cars of that power and road legal tyres cant get good enough launches to get mid 13s or better. You could well be fine. Like said, rolling start he'l cane you, standing, i think youl be ok mate.

Reno5Turbos of that sorta power can do mid 12s tho (on road legal tyres n no LSD), so its far from impossible.

Good luck! And keep us informed, as FWD cas over here are getting much better at launching these days (hell, so are RWDs and 4x4s, we finally seing cars from europe, asia, oz, usa etc being soooo much better than ours and we trying to catch. up now)

Kenny lad, I believe you can do it.

I believe torque has alot to do with getting a better 1/4 mile, BHP is good for top speed, but torque can get you there quicker (look at these quick TDi's racing around today with huge torque curves).

So, although he has a better BHP to weight I believe you can overcome that based on the following:-
- you have a supior torque to weight ratio than him (200 v 170)
- dawes delivers the power & torque quicker
- 4wd V very high powered FWD, 4wd wins all the time and finally
- Crail weather (i.e. it will be wet)

Use the force Luke.
Oh by the way, I'm planning on being there.
Cheers
Kenny

Sorry mate, didnt explain my comment...
IMO i think that you are aiming a bit high for your 1/4 time..
However, fwd and 1/4 mile drag racing dont mix!!

If you get a good launch you should get over the line first.
Is the saxo going to be on road tyres??
If it is on racing slicks it may be harder, if it is on road tyres with that much power he will be lucky to get the power down in 3rd, let alone 1st n 2nd!!

4WD will lead the way.

Rob.

oh and by the way, if get 13.3 on your spec i bow to you

I seek the bow My clutch WILL die

I probably won't get low 13s as I'm lead to believe that Crail have altered their timing such that your time includes your reaction time! That's cr@p in my opinion as it means you can't see what improvements you've made to your car as they may be masked by cr@p/good reactions

As I said, I'm going to take the accelerometer and for each run write down my time and terminal. I can then compare this to the print out from Crail and see where that leaves me. Kinda hoping the times will near match

I'm still confused as to why 13.3 is seen as so unattainable on a tek2.5 car with a couple of other goodies to help it along. It should be good for about 275bhp and its slightly lighter than a P1 (which should slightly offset the P1's sprint gearing). P1's can do 13.3 and I've seen claims of lower

I might be wrong but I really do believe it'll do low 13s. I got 15.3 in my standard VTS for crying out loud and my scooby is much faster!!

I can only try my best

Matt said he was confident he'd go up to Crail and that he'd happily go up against me and swap for passenger laps too I know his car so I'll slink over and challenge him if he's there

we'll see what you get, it will certainly impress me if you get low 13's and make me start thinking about my car, I did have a faulty MAF when I went.

Tweenie, what you running to get such low times?

I am sure your car will beat the 13.8 with a vgood start with all your mods.My 97 my standard turbo managed 14.4 sec quarter with a reaction time of around 6/7 thou of a second (which was included in the time).Mind you if you have a bit of mechanical sympathy about you which I dont blame you it will be quite a bit slower.

Green Scooby- Why on earth was the reaction time included in your run? Thats not right. Runs start soon as you move, can sit there for 10mins and still do a 10sec quarter. If you jus want a good time your best bet IS to ignore the monkey in the next lane and jus go for it when u ready.

And i also dont see why a 13.3 isnt possible with that spec. As long is its beasted off the line, if you got any mechanical sympathy there no point doing the 1/4mile IMO.

Lol, i was jokin bout the time, IIRC that is the time that Andy F got at Crail..
Really not sure what times i'm gonna get TBH.. weather may be the decider..

Kenny make sure you do get over there, IMHO if you get a 13.3 there will be more than a couple of readers impressed..

Keep us posted!!

Rob.

p.s. dont even start with any excuses

Cool

I went up to crail this morning just to see how things went.

I had to leave at lunch time but the quickest scoob there up to that point was saxoboy. IIRC he had done a few 13.6's including the reaction time. second quickest scoob was a big turbo (well vf28),fmic,brd link, etc but the owner was tweaking the boost as I left so he may have come out on top.

up to the point I left saxo was also quicker than the saxo.

T-UK - finished the day of with a 12.76 Dave B finished with 12.66 so looks like I'll need to try harder (bosst was raised to 1.35 bar and run a few time whilst logging to check all ok then..........the beast was unleashed.

Still hit fuel cut in 3rd and 4th so there is a good 0.3-0.4 seconds to loose there! (fuel cut will be raised for Max Power Thrash
