What! No smoking in pubs?!
#34
I've never felt the need to smoke. I can't get my head round why people feel the need to suck on something they know could. and probably will kill them. Is highly addictive, and hideously expensive, when they managed to function perfectly well before they decided to take up the hobby!?!

While I don't smoke, don't like smoking, I would not enforce my view of non smoking on others. In the same way it annoys me that the Anti Speed lobby get too much exposure and Government support.
I agree with the segregated areas in pubs etc and also believe the ventilliation is very poor in most pubs. Generally I don't go to pubs because of the smoke and the fact I don't drink alcohol. The only place I refuse my mates who smoke to light up is in the car. My car, my rules, if you don't like them WALK.

I am a non-smoker, however
I think Dennis Leary summed it up best in "No Cure for Cancer"
he said (paraphrased) "call em tumors(sic) put a skull and cross bones on the pack, keep raising the prices we'll break into your houses to get the ******** cigarettes OK"
Smokers really don't care how much they cost or how bad they are for them

but it REALLY pisses me off having to wash all my clothes after a night out. And some of them are cashmere, I can't just chuck them in the washing machine. So now I have really nice clothes at home that I can't wear to any social occasion unless I want the dry cleaning bill afterwards.

I'm fed up with having to breathe people's fumes whevener I want to go out for a drink; it spoils my evening and I have to wash my hair and all my clothes afterwards to get rid of the smell. How would you like it if I sat next to you in a pub and deliberately farted throughout the whole evening?
You ever been to a non smoking pub / bar?
I have: the place smells of sweat, perfume, beer that has been poured over, puke etc. No smoke, true; but no pleasure either, let me assure you LOL

Well my record sleeves and records are covered in f*cking smoke and stink now- therefore stinking up the boot of my car then my room when i bring them home.
Same for cd wallets, headphones, mic etc.
Plus my clothes, hair etc all reek of it after work every nite.
I dont smoke-out of choice- its minging. Doesnt really agree with me to be honest.
From being in such an environment i probably have a 40 a day passive habit and its not nice.yeah it comes with the territory of working in such a place- but that doesnt make it right.
I dont go force feed vegetarians meat- why the hell am i being forced to breathe smoke.?
(edit for typo)

The thing is about individual freedoms: you cant really tell people not to smoke, and you cant force the other people not to breathe the smoke. But then again, it's not as though breathing a bit of smoke from someone's cigarette in a pub is going to make you drop dead either. You people need to chill out a little: no smoker wants non smokers to breathe the smoke, and non smokers shouldnt want to keep smokers from smoking if they wish to. It's bad for your health, ok, but it's their right to smoke.
Up until a few years ago, no one ever complained. Grand parents smoking was never a problem, Native Americans smoking their pipe of PEACE is not a problem, people going to Amsterdam to smoke hash is not a problem, so why would someone smoking a cigarette in a pub be so much of a problem? Chill out

there should be a smoking room and a non smoking room in pubs not an area 2 inches apart it should have a auto closer on the door and only staff who are smokers should work in it
if the venues cant or wont provide this shut them down

You are all being unrealistic. Stopping smoking in pubs is a ridiculous idea. I'm an ex smoker and ex smokers are usually the worst but while out drinking, I actually enjoy the smell of ****!! The smell on my clothes after is gross (as I said previously) but I'd choose a smoking pub over a non smoking pub every time!!

I smoke like a chimney, but would welcome a ban. I like nothing more than taking a break from a stuffy pub to go outside for a ***. Mean's I smoke less as well. Plus, if you time it right you can miss your round

Someone on the first page said about watching customers drop by 50% in pubs due to the smoking ban, well how about looking at it from another angle! maybe 50% more people will now go to the pub because they can go and enjoy a night out without being smoked on! these people that never went in the past because of the smell and pollution.
So with more customers they will sell more products, selling more products equals more profit, more profit could mean lower prices.

Indeed, I actively avoid smokey pubs, because the smell of **** makes me retch.
They recently made all the trains non-smoking, and you should see all the wheezers get of the trains first just so they can spark up a ***. Jeez, 45 mins without their little friend to make them feel good.. I do feel sorry for these people..

OK. So the smoke is so bad and will make you die of lung cancer from the sound of it,
but drinking all these beers and various alcoholic beverages in a smoke free environment is going to be great for your health?
I say lung cancer or intestins cancer, you choose your cancer, but stop fvckin complaining!!! LOL
I'd rather have a girlfriend who smokes a few cigarettes and brushes her teeth than a fat ugly bitch who doesnt smoke and downs 5 pints a night!

Claudius - I've got loads of cashmere clothes as I lived in Mongolia for a year, and they're the price of C&A wool jumpers out there. Unfortunately I'm not there any more and can't go back cheaply, before you say they are cheap and therefore don't count.
As you can afford to sell your Evo and buy a scoob, perhaps you can buy me one at the same time? I think not.
So
Individual freedoms and banning - I am against banning cigarettes as it will further smuggling networks and organised crime, like dope etc now and alcohol during Prohibition. Better ventilation, legally enforced, is a great idea and would do me fine. In Thailand they have just implemented a new law where any eatery MUST provide a no-smoking area, with a fine of something like 2000 Baht (£30?) for an errant smoker and ten times that for the proprietor. Sounds great. Let people smoke, just don't let it affect me.

Germany is a terrible place if you are a non-smoker. Here at work people smoke basically everywhere (but are banned in the direct work place). I really don´t give a toss if people wish to smoke - infact I would heartily encourage it! They provide billions of dollars annually to the govt, and if they choose to wake up each morning coffing up horrible muck, then more the merrier. However, the thoughtlessness of smokers is terrible - and really annoys me. Driving along yesterday and some silly smoker flicks their cigarette straight out the window and onto my car! Not very happy about this - but this is the attitude. It is the same attitude of dog owners who let their little precious leave doggie eggs on the grass and dont pick them up...
What I would love to see is more research go into cigarettes. Invent a cigarette which gives a smoker all the pleasures it does now, but has no smoke. Then they would be more than welcome to smoke their lungs out...
