Did someone mention a beer in London?
Come out on the p!ss with some others on here in London and it will make you feel a lot better about your bottle of wine a night ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I couldn't personally get through a bottle a night, I can only drink the stuff with meals. However a fridge full of stella is a different matter![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As long as you don't feel cr@p the next day and you arnt getting stomach or back pains then I wouldn't think its doing you any harm.

LOL at the comments down the bottle bank ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I built a small shed to hide the rubbish bin in with enough extra space for a couple of those big plastic crates for the empties![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Means i don't have to go too often, but there is nothing worse than chucking 'em in the bottle bank and getting splash back from some dribbles in the bottom, makes you smell pished for the rest of the day.

A bottle of wine a night's **** all.
If you're putting away booze and getting p1ssed every night and feel you need to then you've got a problem.
I work with a guy who comes in p1ssed every morning and sneaks out every hour or so to top himself up. Then, after work he goes to the local and puts away at least 8 pints of stella.
Imagine what he puts away over a weekend?

I have been off work decorating all week and having a few every night, tonight I thought, sod it, dont want any, have had enough.
I get to a point where I cant look at it, I enjoy a drink but if ou do it every night it gets boring, you get fat(ter), the missus moans, its cost too much and it ceases to be special.
Dont have any for a few days and treat youself to a really nice bottle.

I would say that's quite a lot to drink, but then what's worse - drinking a bottle of wine each and every day of the week like you; or going without for 5 days and then putting away 8pints+, alchopops + shots on both Friday and Saturday night - which is more my style.
I'd say you're doing less harm by drinking a small amount everyday, so keep at it! I'm gonna keep doing it my way if that's ok.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Jamie
ps I'm not opposed to a cheeky 'mid-week' beer if anyone's offering...

had a nice bottle of Jacobs Creek Semillon Chardonnay last night and it was fecking lovely
Regards binge drinking some of the kids I work with drink ****all during the week then go an put away 30/40 units over the weekend....memory blanks all sorts. I think that is worse for your health than a steady stream![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I've been drunk once in the last year, not because I have a tolerance but rarely drink more than 1 bottle a night

A bottle a day is over the recommended intake level, however wine, and red wine in particular, does have some beneficial effects.
Personally I would be tempted to cut down, and have one or two dry days a week. Achololism is a problem if you have to have a drink. Doesn't matter whether it is a sinlge glass or a full on session.

I'm going to buck the trend and suggest that a bottle per night is excessive. It's above recommended limits, and (although I'm not a doctor) suggest that you may be harming your liver even though you feel OK. Try cutting down to, say, 1/2 a bottle.
Also - there were some comments earlier about checking how dependent you are, by abstaining. It might be a shock to the system (chemically) to go from a bottle/day to none at all. If you're going to try cutting it out for a period of time, then try reducing your intake first for a while.

I've been trying to cut down recently. I would say a normal weekday drink for me would be 2-4 pints strong lager, and sometimes a whisky or two. Usually drink quite a bit on friday and saturday, sometimes on sunday too. This might be say eight pints or equivalent pints and whiskys over the course of an evening. and then about once or twice a month go out on the lash proper and get absolutely hammered. I have always drunk a lot since school days, and always enjoyed a good session. however over the years it has taken more and more out of me. recently something in my back has been hurting after sessions or cumulative days of drinking quite a bit (kidney?). I also find it harder to focus at work. jesus that sounds terrible now i've written it. I did that downyourdrink website thing but gave up more or less straight away. In any case I'm trying to cut down a bit (again) now, so there you go.
Charlie.

The scary thing is that your liver still works adequately when 80% of it is dead, i.e. there is hardly any warning that you might be close to liver failure.

I think one bottle of wine a night is fairly managable; however it's still good to have a few days off now and then to let the body recover. I was probably drinking about twice the equivalent of seven bottles of wine a week - maybe more. That *is* too much. I find the hardest thing is that when I decide not to drink, something always seems to crop up, invite to pub, bad day at work, dinner at friends or something so I tend to say, oh well, do it another day.

yeah cheers Jamie
I suppose it's like smokers...even a lung looking like tarmac doens't seem to stop em
I did try getting a wine box and making that last but just end up on a box a night instead of a bottle![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
just kidding a box will last 4 days so maybe the way to go

Used to drink about 3/4 bottle a night, but Mrs P is on the slimming world diet which allows you so many sins a day. 1 glass of wine is 6 sins or something but a double G&T is only 4, so we have a double G&T a night now, have it in a nice tall glass and I only seem to want the one. It's a nice alternative especially as the weather is getting warmer..

Although, I still sneak extras, and last week we had a PTA meeting at our house and I sunk one of those large G&T's and a bottle of wine, all on my own. I was sitting next to the head mistress and apparantly she looked somewhat shocked!!!
Just waiting on social services now.....

Bottle of wine is seven units. Pint Stella 3 units. Wonder what would happen if you go to the local GP and ask to get your liver checked out:
Punter: Hi, I'm worried that my liver might be cream crackered.
Doc: Oh, why do you think that?
Punter: Well, I've been drinking about 100 units of alcohol a week for the last ten years.
Doc: You know, that's really too much alcohol to drink. You could damage your health by drinking that much.
Punter: What should I do?
Doc: You should drink less. Here's the number of your local AA meeting. Thanks for coming. Goodbye.

Not a problem as much as a habit I think. I tend to do the same.
To prove to myself that I don't have a problem, I'll go for a few days without having anything. At the time of night when I would normally be opening the red, I'll eat or drink something else (non alocoholic)instead. Could be a bag of nuts, chocolate or orange juice. By the time I've finished it, my need for the red has gone.
Don't think you've got a prob, but giving the liver a rest is a good idea.

Errr....a bottle of wine is 6 units??????
Surely not - most wines can now be up to 14%!!
I'm sure a bottle of wine is only 6 units if it is 9%????
Therefore, a 14% bottle would be more like 9-10 units?
Same argument with beer - a pint of beer is supposedly 2 units, but that is 3% beer! Stella is 5.2%, which is 73% stronger, so must be 3.46 units per pint!!!!!
