First point what a fair post.
Funny as an RS owner what a lot of you seem to like is what I dislike. The noise. To me (only an opinion) sounds like an old VW Beetle.
Looks wise I think alot of you are putting the Scoob down. I think it looks as good as any Ford (mind you I only drive a Saph)
Power got to be the decision maker for me, I like drag racing so handling aint to big an issue and tunability for sensible money the Fords win hands down.

Hmmmmm......
Good post, and wasn't surprised to see the cossie boys getting the **** on !
The scoob is quality. As a standard package, it'd outhandle the escort by a long way (having driven both standard). To move into the present day, I had the chance to be seated in an STi8 the other day, and it really was a very nice place to be..... (apart from the view of that fookin thing on the bonnet )
This arguement will rage for eternity, but as standard cars, they're both slow in a straight line. Point to point, real world driving, it's got to be the scooby.
Cossies are interesting engines. The wiring is 5hite (bar none), the ancillaries are prone to breaking, and the design is fundamentally flawed (turbo next to brake master cylinder and clutch cable e.g.). The only reason cossie are unreliable is because they're cheap to modify, so people would rather spend x amount on a chip, exhaust, turbo etc, than £150 on a decent service. Ask a lot of cossie owners the last time their fuel filter was changed, and I bet they wont be able to tell you!

imho i feel that an escort cozzie is a far better car to own!
how much do you lot have to pay to get the engine rebuilt if you run to much power throught it compaired to the cozzie lump! to be fair if a cozzie lump goes tit's up then it wont cost as much or take as long to fix! also the cozzie is alot easier and cheaper to tune, because the engine is so good and has ben aroubd in many forms so the tuning method for the earliest can still be used on the latest!
as for saying that the escort is just a std escort with a bigger engine.....
well the floor pan of the escort is losely baseed around the siera cozzie and a hell of a lot better spec'ed and looks!! saying that tho... whats the diff then between the wrx and the low spec models in the scooby!! same point i feel!
i would defo have either cars tho to be honest (dream car is always gonna b a tuned large turbo lux model escort cozzie) but the escort does hold the value alot better even if it is modded compaired to the scooby!! and they are alot harder to come by!!
just my 2p's worth like!

Rich, i disagree with your comment:
in fairness I think we have been quite diplomatic in this discussion, and if my memory serves me correctly in this thread, no actual cossie owner has slated a scoob or put one down insessently
not unlike the chap who said this about the escort
oh and
last sunday to be specific
and wasn't surprised to see the cossie boys getting the **** on

Dated, over-rated, over-priced, tinny, chocolate bodywork 80s has been, and at the end of the day, its just an escort with a decent engine somone else had to build for them.
Give me a scoob everytime.

Firstly, I belive the picture of the cossie on page one is owned by "FRAZ" from the seemingly ever at fault RSOC BB.
Rich, the fuel filter on my Escort Cossie was changed in July 02, approx 4000 miles ago
They will/may appear out-dated, as they have not been updated...AT ALL.... since thier conception.... over ten years ago.
Interesting point to note here, some of you are comparing a ten year old car / design (even older drivetrain) to a NEW updated and modern design, Sports/rallly car, ie the 22B.... THAT I am proud of .... If you feel a 8 - 10 year old (eg Big Turbo) ECos is of comparible or competitive spec / performnce (once tuned) to a NEWish P1 / type R / 22b / scoob, they cant be all bad ;-p
"over-priced"..... I guess you meant to say In your opinion, as an item is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.
chocolate bodywork???? ahh you must be refering to the tasty and desirable curves and bulges
Oh and FYI it IS NOT just an escort, infact, the only common body parts are the doors (plus thing like morrors), plus the ECos shell is 100% more torsionally rigid than "just an Escort"
"...engine someone else built.." Ahh that would be those people who have designed and built MANY champinship winnig engines of all fields yeah??... and why not get someone else to build an engine and put it into your chassis, dont they do that in that Formula one race thing.... OH and so did Mclaren, when they got BMW to build the engine for thier "no expense spared" road car.....
Not muvh more I can say which hasnt been said really .... I like scoobys, but I have always loved Fords and RS's (shame ay.... lol) I dunno whether I would ever buy one, although I "could" possibly have a P1, having said that I would like to take one for a drive, a modern updated one, as in theory the chassis, should be superb...in comparison to my old boat...
one other thing, Id like to see a N plate small turb Escy which is up for 12k........ should be a good bl00dy laugh to inspect....
My escy is a limited run "monte" edition, 1 of only 200, (74 RHD models) so does that make it EVEN better than one of those blue P1 or 22B type thingies ;-)

My car's better than yours! ner ner!
Is this a teens 'my Dad's better than your Dad' forum or a 4x4 turbo appreciation site?
LMAO
My cousin has a Mazda 323 GTR which is very rare in this country but goes like holy stink! It might not be the best looking thing but it, like all these other cars, has its strengths. One for the Mazda being its ability to nail most Scoobs which is always entertaining for him (300bhp in a v small 4x4 car!).

Alan, like Damo V said, the escort is more or less 10 years old.
The suspension, interior etc......these have been improved dramaticly since then, especially on jap cars .
So you should be happy with the new car.
My mate has a subaru and i would have one no problem,it's just that i prefer rs cars, especially cosworths.
Dave.
